We all want to know the answers to the so-called “big questions” of life. So seek them in an intellectually satisfying way at Lipscomb. There are no gimmicks or trends here.  We're following the time-honored, Socratic method of pursuing truth — and doing so in dialogue with the Christian intellectual tradition.

We approach the study of philosophy by reading the classics and by wrestling with ideas and reasons in civil debate with one another. What makes an action right as opposed to wrong?  What is knowledge, and can we have it?  Does anything at all make life meaningful?  How can an all-powerful and good God allow evil to occur?  What distinguishes cogent from fallacious reasoning, and how can we best analyze and assess arguments?  What is the nature of truth, beauty, goodness, and freedom?   

You'll study the work of the greatest minds in Western history. And you'll learn to identify and evaluate the fundamental assumptions that shape how we think about the world — and ourselves. Use the skills you develop in philosophy to pursue internships and job opportunities in a variety of fields, including government, politics, and history. Or continue onto law school, business school, or graduate school to hone your focus even further.

Our program sets itself apart by being distinctly Christian — with a plethora of research opportunities. We provide flexible emphases for our applied chemistry major, from computer science or mathematics to business, green chemistry, environmental chemistry and forensic science.

Forensic Science Emphasis (Chemistry major - applied)
You'll be well connected to alumni in the field of forensic sciences. What we teach will qualify you to work in a crime laboratory, or get a job in drug testing. Scripture tells us we are “fearfully and wonderfully” made—and few know that better than a physicist! Pretty deep language for something that absolutely rules daily life (like the fact we walk on the ground rather than float hither and yon). Investigate the principles of physics with a high regard for creation’s God-given wonder, complexity, and amazing power.

Physics teaching majors will receive core and specialized professional education in addition to the general education required of secondary and K-12 teacher education students.

We developed our applied biochemistry curriculum to give you exactly what you need to excel. Our dedicated faculty will prepare you for admission to competitive health-related professional schools — without advanced mathematics. Many of our applied biochemistry graduates are flourishing medical doctors, dentists, pharmacists or physician assistants. Others have found success in industry or graduate study within chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology or microbiology.

As the ability to converse in Spanish is increasing in importance in the U.S. and worldwide, it's no secret that with a background in this language, you'll be better equipped for your profession — and for service. Our Spanish Teaching degree combines the best of two worlds: our respected education program and a course of study involving language, geography and literature. We teach our classes in Spanish to prepare you for a career where you, as a teacher, will do the same.

By studying film production at Lipscomb, you’ll learn the art of storytelling and how to express your original ideas on screen, in an environment that emphasizes collaboration, compassion and care for individuals and communities around the world. You’ll plan, crew and shoot projects, sharpen your screenwriting skills and learn the business, both its history and specific application. Families are society’s most important institution. However, some families are becoming more complex and vulnerable to environmental and social influences. At Lipscomb, you can learn how to serve these families by better understanding their challenges through the academic field of family science, a discipline becoming increasingly popular with both students and a wide range of organizations, businesses, and service providers who value family-trained professionals.

Now more than ever, there is a need for professionals who are just, wherever they may be.  We know you want to change the world. So we've created a program to help you build a foundation in justice so you can do exactly that. We know legal change is one of the best ways to effect social change, so we'll make sure you gain a strong understanding of America's legal system. Work with a prominent civil rights attorney in Tuskegee, Alabama. You'll visit Washington, D.C. for an introduction of American law. Learn from real-life experiences with an internship. Take a semester abroad. And later, you'll even travel to five European countries as you learn about law in the global community.

We've been doing experiential learning in the sciences since before it was cool. And with guidance from our expert faculty, you'll take advantage of rich opportunities to investigate the basis for life. We will help you prepare for a career in the life sciences: think clinical or biomedical research, or other graduate programs in the allied health professions. You'll face challenges in this program as you learn the cellular mechanisms underlying human physiology, genetics and disease. You won't be alone. Our award-winning teachers - world-respected biomedical research scientists - will mentor you along the way.
