The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Technology, Entrepreneurship and Production puts students inside the recording studio and prepares them for a behind-the-scenes careers in the music industry. Students will develop exceptional competency in all aspects of the music making process.

New York City is the birthplace of some of the world’s most iconic artists as well as companies pioneering the $20 billion global music industry. Program graduates will have the tools to build successful careers in creative entrepreneurship, venue management, distribution, performance, songwriting, engineering and production.

The program will feature an experiential learning approach, grounded in the real world of music production and marketing, and follow a learning cohort model that places peer collaboration at the center of the educational experience. The program was founded around four pillars vital to the success of the modern musician:

• Creation of music: songwriting, performance, improvisation and arranging
• Production of music: music technology, mixing and engineering
• Business of music: entrepreneurship, marketing, promotion, copyright and management
• Background of music: history, culture, and globalization of contemporary music

For those just beginning in their careers or those seeking a career change, the nursing profession offers a broad range of roles and options in meeting the health needs of individuals, families, communities and populations. 

 The School of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preparing new nurses through two tracks:

• Full-time day track
• Accelerated 2nd-degree track—a 16-month program for students who already hold a baccalaureate degree in another field. This track offers admission in the Summer, Spring, and Fall. 
• Integrate knowledge from the liberal arts and sciences when providing professional nursing care to diverse individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations throughout the life span and across the continuum of healthcare settings.
• Identify principles of leadership and management for quality improvement and patient safety to the delivery of high quality professional nursing care within current cultural, economic, organizational, and political perspectives.
• Integrate evidence-based best practices into professional nursing practice to improve patient outcomes.
• Use information technology ethically to support evidence-based practice, decision-making, and demonstrate competence using patient care technology in the delivery of quality patient care across the continuum of care.
• Examine healthcare, financial, and regulatory policies that influence the practice of professional nursing and access to care and promote advocacy for consumers and the profession.
• Collaborate with members of the interprofessional team to improve communication to provide patient centered care.
• Provide population-based professional nursing care that integrates concepts of demographics, social determinants of health, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, risk assessment, genetics/genomics, equity, and resource utilization in the delivery of quality and safe care.
• Demonstrate professionalism and accountability in nursing practice applying professional values of altruism, autonomy, human dignity, integrity, and social justice.
• Apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes using clinical reasoning to develop nursing interventions that recognize culture, spirituality, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, and sexual orientation in the delivery of professional nursing care to all consumers across the lifespan.

The Master's Program in psychology is built on a strong core curriculum in general psychology and provides professionals with a broad perspective of the discipline of psychology, research skills and professional ethics. Advanced courses encourage students to consider current trends and challenges in fields that provide psychological services. In supplementing the core curriculum with electives in a variety of specialized areas, the M.A. strengthens professionals’ skills in both the theory and practice of psychology and related fields. Students can complete the M.A. in Psychology with 33 credits (30 credits of course work and 3 credits for the thesis) or 36 credits of course work and the completion of a comprehensive examination. The thesis provides an opportunity to work closely with a faculty member in a selected area of expertise.

The master’s program prepares graduates to work in a variety of mental health or human service settings, including mental health care facilities, child welfare and family counseling agencies, institutions for the aged, and other social and community organizations. Graduates are also prepared for admission to programs of advanced study in psychology, such as the Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs.

B.S. in Entrepreneurship teaches students how to prepare and execute a comprehensive strategy for launching a new venture. The venture can be in any organizational context – large or small, new or existing, non-profit or for profit. The entrepreneurial process of value creation through innovation remains the same regardless of the context or the ultimate goal. Although people often assume that the focus of entrepreneurship is on starting for-profit businesses, learning the entrepreneurial process will help you to think more strategically in all of your endeavors.

The best way to understand the entrepreneurial process is to take a hands-on, experiential approach. In this major, students will interact extensively with the business community both inside and outside the classroom and produce a plan that is both defensible to potential investors and actionable in the real world.

M.F.A. in Creative Writing prepares students to both be professional writers in the world and to be visionary literary citizens. Situated in the heart of Brooklyn, LIU’s MFA in Creative Writing is an innovative creative writing program centered on world literature, multi-genre education, and publishing. Our applied MFA prepares students for careers in creative writing, academia, translation, and publishing. During their two-year residential program, students have the opportunity to study poetry, fiction, nonfiction, playwriting, and translation, and thus receive a robust multi-genre education.

In our MFA’s publishing courses, students study directly with professionals at the heart of the publishing industry. During the course of their study, students learn about commercial, independent, and academic publishing with frequent guest literary agents, editors, and leaders from seminal national and international literary arts organizations. We also focus on the performative aspects of the writing industry including audiobooks, public performances and speaking, and adaptations. The 36 to 63-credit Master’s of Business Administration (number of credits is based on your undergraduate coursework) provides the knowledge base and skills that enable professionals to become leaders in business by offering a comprehensive program which meets the needs of an ever-changing, global business environment. The program is offered on a part-time basis during the evenings and weekends with 15- and 7-week semesters, to accommodate the schedules of busy working professionals who are interested in advancing their careers. When you enroll in the program, you will join students representing every continent and possessing a variety of professional backgrounds, including those who work in corporate entities, nonprofit organizations and government agencies.

Many of today’s most pressing social problems relate directly to problems in behavior. Violence (at home or on the street), drug addiction and poor interpersonal relationships are just some examples of the types of issues explored in the field of psychology. Psychologists strive first to describe, understand and explain behavioral problems and also to contribute solutions to such problems, through careful collection of data, analysis of data, and development of intervention strategies.

The B.A. in Psychology provides students with a broad understanding of the principles that explain human behavior and interaction. In addition to learning the latest science and theory regarding human and nonhuman animal behavior, students in the program gain the vital skills and experience employers seek. These skills include research and writing skills, problem solving skills, and, well-developed, higher-level thinking ability as evidenced in analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating information.

• Concentrate in general psychology, abnormal psychology, applied behavior analysis, applied psychology, developmental psychology, neuroscience and social psychology.
• Choose from electives in forensic psychology, psychosomatics, neuroscience, social psychology and industrial and organizational psychology.

In addition to working directly in psychology-related fields such as counseling and teaching, our students and graduates find jobs in such varied areas as public affairs, education, business, sales, service industries, health, the biological sciences and computer programming. They also work as employment counselors, correction counselor trainees, interviewers, personnel analysts, probation officers and writers.

B.S. in Accounting prepares students for acceptance into various master’s programs and for employment in either the public, private, government or not-for-profit sectors in addition to entry-level positions in business, financial and accounting firms. Students learn essential skills in financial and managerial accounting, taxation and auditing. The curriculum provides a systems approach to prepare students to be technically competent, alert to ethical issues and able to adapt to changes in technology, regulation and globalization.

Student clubs for accounting majors include the Accounting Society, which regularly sponsors professional events and host lectures by guest speakers in the accounting profession. The National Association of Black Accountants offers students the opportunity to participate in mentorship and apprenticeship programs, providing them with the hands-on experience that is so critical to future employers.

The B.S. in Exercise Science & Wellness specifically focuses on areas such as human performance, exercise physiology, strength & conditioning, nutrition, biomechanics, sports management and inclusive fitness programing. The curriculum was designed to provide a strong foundation in scientific, physiological, and psychological concepts related to sports performance, wellness, fitness evaluation and exercise adherence, exercise prescription, inclusive fitness and health promotion. Our program positions students for careers in Commercial Fitness, with Professional Sports Teams, at Community Centers, in Non-Profit Organizations, in addition to Wellness Companies, Hotels & Cruise Ships, and the Entertainment Industry. Our graduates are academically prepared to pursue graduate and professional degrees in a wide range of allied health professions such as exercise physiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, sports medicine, personal and athletic training.

The Master of Science program in Pharmacology and Toxicology prepares students with the knowledge and abilities required for competitive technical positions in pharmacological research and testing, for participating in clinical trials, and for performing toxicological reviews and assessments in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries as well as in academic and governmental research laboratories.

Additionally, graduates are well positioned to continue their studies in Ph.D. programs in pharmacology and other biomedical sciences, while other graduates may find the program ideal for improving their credentials toward gaining admission to medical school or other health professional programs.

Career opportunities and employment may include academic departments involved in research, development, and teaching. Rewarding careers are also possible in pharmaceutical companies, government laboratories and agencies including the Centers for Disease Control, The Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Defense and NASA. Opportunities also exist in areas involving the development of public policy, investment advising, patent law, and scientific writing and editing.

There is excellent potential for rapid advancement in this field due to the importance of the discipline to the drug industry, regulatory agencies, and to the general public.

Graduates of the program have either joined academic departments by securing doctoral fellowships in prestigious laboratories, or obtained jobs in industry. Others have used their degree to facilitate entry into medical and pharmacy schools.
