The Master of Health Administration degree, provides the comprehensive curriculum needed to succeed as a manager or leader in a highly complex, competitive and ever-changing health care environment. This 42-credit program examines both practical and theoretical problems and challenges in the field, and provides an understanding of a wide range of topics including organizational structures, health care policy analysis and healthcare management.

The M.H.A. program at LIU Post prepares students for service in executive and managerial-level positions public, nonprofit, and health care organizations. Our graduates are currently serving in the hospitals and health care practices; local and national nonprofits; and local, state, and federal government positions.

LIU Global offers a BA degree in Global Studies, a discipline that investigates the world’s interdependent political, economic, cultural, and ecological systems. Global Studies equips future leaders with tools to address challenges that transcend national and disciplinary boundaries, preparing them to develop solutions at the local, national, regional, and global levels. LIU Global organizes its curriculum around six issues that pose the greatest challenges to human wellbeing:

• Economic inequality, poverty, and access to livelihoods
• Social inequality: gender, race, ethnicity, and human development
• Climate change, clean energy, and environmental degradation
• Urbanization and sustainable human settlements
• War, conflict, and displaced peoples
• Justice, discrimination, and human rights

LIU Global teaches students how these challenges take different forms in different locations, thereby developing skills in adaptation and empathy as each locale articulates the particularity of its engagement with these issues. By addressing each issue through multiple lenses, students gain the skills in analysis and problem-solving that these complex challenges demand. The 120-credit Bachelor of Science degree in Childhood Education/Early Childhood prepares you to become a knowledgeable, caring and inspiring teacher of childhood and early childhood education from infants and toddlers to children who are in the first through sixth grades.

In pursuing your undergraduate degree, you will examine theories of child development, motivation and learning for youngsters ranging from infants to Grade 6. You will master the skills needed to encourage students to learn new material and to take responsibility for themselves and one another. As you work toward this degree you will gain an understanding and appreciation of subjects ranging from science to music to language arts. You also will acquire techniques to assess and evaluate a child’s intellectual, social and physical development and learn the basic principles of classroom management for a diverse student population. The program will culminate in a semester-long student teaching experience that will allow you to practice your new skills in a classroom setting. This degree qualifies you for two New York State Initial Teaching Certification.

After you complete all degree requirements, successfully pass New York State Licensure tests (EAS, CST and edTPA) and you have completed all required teacher certification workshops, you will be awarded Initial teaching certification by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) in Childhood and Early Childhood Education.

Students that pursue the 120-credit B.F.A. degree in Digital Art and Design have a variety of exciting career paths available to them. The program is intended to prepare students for successful careers in Graphic Design for Print, Web Design, Animation, and UX Interaction Design. The mission of the program is to impart fundamental knowledge of design and nurture the technical and creative skills necessary for graduates to secure opportunities as professional designers. Our plan of study provides students with comprehensive experience in industry-standard design software and introduces them to the different career paths they can pursue in various fields of design.

The Art Therapy programs in the Department of Art explore the interaction of the visual arts with psychological theories and practice.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Art Therapy provides training for undergraduate students who wish to use their creative skills in a variety of health care environments. The program emphasizes preparation for graduate training in clinical art therapy.

As an art major you will study with professional artists and leading scholars, as well as visiting guest artists from around the world. You will build a solid foundation in drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking, while exploring the history and theory of human creativity in courses that range from the arts of the ancient Near East and the Mediterranean to contemporary photography and digital design. Art Foundations are required of all freshmen in the program, where concepts and practices in two- and three-dimensional art forms are examined. As a junior you will choose one or more of the studio arts as your concentration; as a senior you will work with a faculty advisor in preparing a B.F.A. exhibition of works in your chosen art media.

The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Social Work will prepare you to enter the workforce, launching a career of helping people cope with life’s challenges and advocating for a just society, as well as continuing to graduate-level education.  We offer liberal arts-based, relationship-centered education where students form close connections with their professors and each other. The curriculum includes courses related to policy, practice, human development and social systems’ behavior, research as well as practicum-related seminars. Students learn the social work foundation of knowledge, skills and values through small class engagement with stimulating topics, role plays, case studies, videos, TED talks, close reading and reflective writing. They engage (in the Junior and Senior years) infield practice in diverse settings including schools, homeless shelters, child and family counseling centers, charitable organizations, senior citizen facilities and social service agencies. Beyond the classroom and field placement, we offer a very active student club, which provides you with opportunities for numerous exciting community service activities.

Behavior analysis is a well-developed approach to solving social/emotional, behavioral, and learning problems for many different populations in many different settings. The Department of Psychology's master's program in Behavior Analysis focuses on the experimental, theoretical, methodological, and analysis of behaviors of individuals and how these behaviors denote different types of learning processes or problems. The processes of behavior analysis are used most widely with clinical populations in the area of developmental disabilities, including but not limited to clients diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum and/or intellectually impaired.

The Master of Science in Nutrition prepares students to assume leadership positions in the nutrition field. The program is designed to enhance professional qualifications as a food and nutrition specialist. Challenging courses for the advanced study of nutrition are provided. The student chooses various electives to complement a core curriculum of nutrition science, research methods, biomedical statistics as well as communication, education and counseling skills. A choice of challenging electives enables students to pursue individual interests. Students also complete a research project as a culminating experience of the degree.

The Department of Health and Human Services is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Students benefit from classroom instruction led by faculty who are locally and nationally recognized for their scholarly contributions to social justice and improving the human condition. Hands-on internships and fieldwork opportunities in varied settings are also available, including schools, homeless shelters, child and family counseling centers, charitable organizations, senior citizen facilities, and social service agencies.
