The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Political Science is an individualized, interdisciplinary program designed for students interested in a liberal arts approach to the contemporary world. You will graduate from this program with a well-rounded knowledge of political theory, American government, international relations, comparative government and public administration. Distinguished professors interact with their students in small class settings that foster the exchange of information, perspective and ideas. Visiting professors from prestigious institutions, including the United Nations, offer insights developed in the course of careers in diplomacy, politics and public policy. A degree in political science is excellent preparation for a career in education, law, public administration, business and many other fields.

As a Film major, you will learn to communicate and interpret the world around you through courses in all levels of production, editing, screenwriting, cinematography, sound, producing, and film history.

Beginning in your first semester, you will get hands-on experience working with traditional and digital film equipment and exploring all forms of narrative and documentary storytelling. The comprehensive, widely respected film curriculum prepares students for creative, critical, and technical work in the worlds of film, television, and digital media. In addition, you will study a well-rounded liberal arts foundation that will help develop proficiency in areas of human development: self-discipline, self-motivation, creative thinking, critical analysis, collaboration as part of a group, and leadership in a group.

With the specialized, advanced training provided by the 58-credit Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology you will be equipped for a career diagnosing and treating a wide range of speech, language, swallowing and hearing disorders. 

The Master of Arts (M.A.) program in speech-language pathology at LIU Post is designed to mentor and educate students to become competent, caring, qualified and accountable speech-language pathologists who in turn will be well equipped to serve clients in a culturally and linguistically diverse society. Our goal is to provide students with a comprehensive program, built upon a sound theoretical foundation in speech, language and hearing sciences, in which clinical skill development is integrated. Educational and clinical experiences will be guided by a strong adherence to evidence based practice.  Strong clinical reasoning, decision making, and communication skills will be developed through training and supervised practice.  Students will be required to demonstrate high standards of competency and ethical conduct within the scope of professional practice. An important element in our training of MA candidates includes inter-professional educational opportunities where students can learn from and work closely with other disciplines. Simulated experiences at our state of the art Simlab and with computerized simulators assists students to be prepared for clinical interaction and to practice their skills. We seek to guide our students through the program by providing advisement, instruction, as well as clinical and intellectual challenges. Our program goals are both formative and summative in accordance with standards of our professional accrediting organization, the Council of Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Upon completion of the program our students will be prepared to function in our pluralistic society as speech-language pathologists working alongside allied health professionals and educators in a variety of settings serving the needs of children and adults throughout the lifespan. In terms of employment, our graduates have enjoyed a high employment rate in a variety of pediatric and adult sites on Long Island, New York City and across the country.

The Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics (BSDA) will prepare students for the growing demand in industries for data-literate professionals who can understand and perform data analytics and apply the knowledge in decision-making in various practical fields. In addition to the common core curriculum, the upper-division coursework innovatively consists of the following modules:

• Foundational Module: programming in Python, Data Analytics with Excel, R, and Python, Data Structures and Algorithms
• Core Module: Database Management, Data Visualization, Advanced Statistics, Data Mining and Business Intelligence, Machine Leaning, Intro to AI
• Applied Module: Data Analytics Ethics, Intro to Fintech, Intro to Modern Cryptography, Computational Genomics, Deep Learning, and Capstone Project
• Elective Module: elective courses can be taken in other programs such as Accounting, Artificial Intelligence, Business Administration, Computer Science, Digital Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Fashion Merchandising, Finance, Marketing, and Sports Management

The BSDA is a STEM designated degree program. The core faculty in the program all hold their Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Economics, or Operation Research from top-tier research universities, with extensive industry and research experience at Amazon, National Science Foundation, the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, and Wall Street and Main Street firms.

Mental health counselors work with individuals, families, and groups to address and treat mental and emotional disorders and to promote mental health. They are trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques used to address issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction and substance abuse, suicidal impulses, stress, trauma, low self-esteem, and grief. They also help with job and career concerns, educational decisions, mental and emotional health issues, and relationship problems. In addition, they may be involved in community outreach, advocacy, and mediation activities. Some specialize in delivering mental health services for the elderly. Mental health counselors often work closely with other mental health specialists, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses, and school counselors. Mental health counselors work in community health and social service organizations, day treatment programs, outpatient mental health clinics, hospitals, or private practice.

The 60-credit M.S. in Mental Health Counseling provides students with core knowledge to be effective helpers in a variety of clinical settings. The program covers professional issues and ethics, counseling theories, human development, counseling skills, group work, assessment and career development. Building upon these core content areas, the mental health counseling program focuses specifically on the development of knowledge and skills necessary to work in a variety of clinical settings, such as: foundations of mental health counseling; research; evidence-based practice; program evaluation; psychopathology and psychopharmacology.

The program is committed to developing a new generation of genetic counselors with the knowledge and skill to help patients make the best decisions. With a diverse, interdisciplinary academic and clinical faculty, the two-year program is geared toward students who desire a rigorous and comprehensive training in the field of clinical genetics. The program emphasizes the scientific, clinical and psychosocial aspects of genetic counseling. Skills learned through classroom-based didactics pave the way for students to enter their clinical rotations for “real-world” training. Additionally, a number of supplementary activities ensure that students will be exposed to non-traditional careers in genetic counseling along with traditional, clinic-based careers.

The College of Management (COM) at LIU Post offers a new, 30-credit, specialized Master of Science in Data Analytics and Strategic Business Intelligence program (MDA) with a blend of data science, IT, and business courses to prepare students for the demand in industries for data-literate managers and data scientists with solid business knowledge and analytical skills.

The MDA program is designed for recent graduates or working professionals in their early or mid-career phases.  The ideal student should have basic quantitative and IT knowledge and skills through prior coursework or working experience, and be highly motivated to learn how to deal with data as a strategic asset and apply IT and analytic methods to make data-driven business decisions.

The M.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science program is a 52- credit program requiring a 6-month full-time clinical placement. Students may begin as part-time but will require a full-time commitment in order to complete this graduate degree program.

Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS) are highly skilled laboratory professionals who are qualified by national certification and NYS licensure to work in several areas of a clinical laboratory, including hematology, microbiology, immunohematology, chemistry, immunology and molecular diagnostics (CLS generalist). They play a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and illnesses. Using sophisticated laboratory equipment, CLS generalists perform tests and analyze cells, blood and other body fluids to detect abnormalities. They are a vital source of diagnostic information to doctors who use the test results to determine and monitor a course of treatment for patients.

In the Department of Criminal Justice, undergraduate and graduate programs are designed to meet the constant demand for law enforcement and criminal justice professionals. Our programs also provide an excellent pathway toward the study of law.

Our core curriculum thoroughly explores the theory and practice of the criminal justice system. But you will customize your study through elective courses that focus on a particular area of interest. Our full-time faculty is an internationally renowned group of academic professionals, and our adjunct professors are working criminal justice professionals, including attorneys, judges and law enforcement officials.

The Department of Teaching and Learning offers a highly respected dual undergraduate major in health education and physical education that prepares you to teach both disciplines in elementary, middle and high schools. The redesigned 127-credit 4-year Bachelor of Science Degree in the Health Education and Physical Education program will provide you with greater career flexibility and will lead to New York State Initial Teaching Certification in two distinct disciplines.

Students in the program learn effective techniques of classroom management, curriculum design, and lesson planning for children in Kindergarten through Grade 12.  Liberal arts courses in biology equip you with knowledge in human anatomy and physiology.

The Health Education component examines nutrition, health care services, sexuality and family planning, personal well-being, and drugs in contemporary society. You will learn how to encourage children and teenagers, in a non-judgmental approach, to discuss their experiences, attitudes and values related to health issues.

The Physical Education portion shows you how to create a program that motivates children and adolescents to stay fit. You will learn how to organize movement activities, create rules and regulations, conduct lessons that allow for maximum practice opportunity, analyze student performance and identify sports-related injuries.

In both disciplines, you will gain extensive field-based experience through methods classes and student teaching in local school districts.
