The Bachelor of Science in Music is for students who desire a strong music program, together with a well-rounded liberal arts education. Our 120-credit curriculum combines practical music instruction, including private lessons; classes in music theory and music history; elective credits that can be used toward your chosen music concentration; and traditional liberal arts courses in science, history, literature, economics, political science, philosophy and foreign languages.

Through the study of English, students learn to evaluate sensibilities both past and present, acquiring a profound knowledge of their own humanity and of the human condition in general. The study of English helps develop fluency of expression, skill in logical analysis, and facility in planning, organizing, and revising.

The writing concentration explores various forms of creative expression through course work in literature, creative writing and non-fiction writing. Students pursuing this concentration have the opportunity to take courses in “Academic Writing” (expository, argumentative, creative writing), “Performance Writing” (screenplays, teleplays), “Writing for the Marketplace” (business, public relations), and “Rhetorical Theory” (ancient and modern).

The Department of Biomedical, Health and Nutritional Sciences prepares students to become knowledgeable professionals dedicated to the highest standards of science and health care.

The MS Program in Biomedical Sciences offers a curriculum well suited to those who wish to work in a research laboratory, individuals seeking acceptance into post-graduate professional schools (e.g., medical or dental school) and students seeking a career in basic science research who are planning to continue in doctoral programs. Students are taught by expert faculty specializing in the fields of microbiology, hematology, immunology and clinical biochemistry. Students may join the laboratories of faculty and acquire excellent research experience.

The Bachelor of Arts degree program in Criminal Justice is designed to meet the demands for professionals working in policing, corrections, prosecution and pretrial services, probation, parole, juveniles, public safety, victim services, civil and family courts, homeland security, international security, and other related fields. In addition to our core curriculum, which thoroughly explores the theory and practice of the criminal justice system, you can choose from elective courses that focus on a particular area of interest. The curriculum will expose you to the latest trends in theory and technology that impact criminal justice.

Behavior analysis is a well-developed approach to solving social/emotional, behavioral, and learning problems for many different populations in many different settings. The Department of Psychology's master's program in Behavior Analysis focuses on the experimental, theoretical, methodological, and analysis of behaviors of individuals and how these behaviors denote different types of learning processes or problems. The processes of behavior analysis are used most widely with clinical populations in the area of developmental disabilities, including but not limited to clients diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum and/or intellectually impaired.

The Master of Arts (M.A.) program in speech-language pathology at LIU Post is designed to mentor and educate students to become competent, caring, qualified and accountable speech-language pathologists who in turn will be well equipped to serve clients in a culturally and linguistically diverse society. Our goal is to provide students with a comprehensive program, built upon a sound theoretical foundation in speech, language and hearing sciences, in which clinical skill development is integrated. Educational and clinical experiences will be guided by a strong adherence to evidence based practice.  Strong clinical reasoning, decision making, and communication skills will be developed through training and supervised practice.  Students will be required to demonstrate high standards of competency and ethical conduct within the scope of professional practice. An important element in our training of MA candidates includes inter-professional educational opportunities where students can learn from and work closely with other disciplines. Simulated experiences at our state of the art Simlab and with computerized simulators assists students to be prepared for clinical interaction and to practice their skills. We seek to guide our students through the program by providing advisement, instruction, as well as clinical and intellectual challenges. Our program goals are both formative and summative in accordance with standards of our professional accrediting organization, the Council of Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Upon completion of the program our students will be prepared to function in our pluralistic society as speech-language pathologists working alongside allied health professionals and educators in a variety of settings serving the needs of children and adults throughout the lifespan. In terms of employment, our graduates have enjoyed a high employment rate in a variety of pediatric and adult sites on Long Island, New York City and across the country.

The Bachelor of Science in Communications is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed for careers in today’s expanding media world.

The program provides technical experiences in the creation of digital moving images, electronic journalism, audio technology, as well as the fundamentals of researching, reporting, and writing, across many media platforms. The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Political Science is an individualized, interdisciplinary program designed for students interested in a liberal arts approach to the contemporary world. The mission of the program is to impart fundamental knowledge of design and nurture the technical and creative skills necessary for graduates to secure opportunities as professional designers. Our plan of study provides students with comprehensive experience in industry-standard design software and introduces them to the different career paths they can pursue in various fields of design.
