The International Pathway Program (IPP) is designed especially for international students who have proven their academic ability but need to strengthen their English skills to achieve positive results in the collegiate environment. Students study a combination of English Language courses and credit-bearing academic courses. So they can earn credits towards their degree from the beginning.

Music
A diverse range of courses in the humanities and sciences are geared toward developing the student's intellectual skills by emphasizing written communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and the importance of being an informed, socially responsible citizen of the world.

Aerospace Engineering
Students pursuing the aerospace engineering program will develop in-demand skills in the fundamental science and technologies to create, develop, and improve aircraft and spacecraft.

The only program of its kind in Connecticut, UHart's new aerospace engineering undergraduate program offers students the opportunity to learn technical concepts relevant to aerospace engineering and design, utilizing the current equipment and facilities in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Acoustical Engineering. Spaces include:

• Wind tunnels, including:
• Large-scale turbomachinery cascade tunnel
• Boundary layer tunnel
• Low-speed tunnel with 6-axis force balance
• Water table
• Materials and structures testing equipment
• Controls instrumentation
• Thermal/fluids experimental setups

Health Sciences - Pre-Optometry

The BS/OD program is for the academically outstanding student with strong, realistic motivation toward the optometric profession. Initial study at the University of Hartford allows you to complete the general education and basic science requirements for the BS in health science degree and the prerequisites necessary for professional study.

The BS degree is awarded by the University of Hartford following the successful completion of the first year of graduate study. Students who are not in the accelerated program typically complete the BS degree in four years at the University of Hartford.

The optometry program requires four years of combined academic and clinical training leading to the OD degree, which is a prerequisite for licensure eligibility in the United States. The New England College of Optometry provides students with an accredited four-year professional optometry curriculum.

Studying flute at Hartt exposes you to a comprehensive program designed to challenge and motivate you as a performer.

To enrich pedagogy skills, the Hartt flute studio uses a mentoring system that pairs an undergraduate student with a graduate flutist.  They meet together for a minimum of two hours a week to work in duets, resolve any problems revealed in Techniques Class, and for the chance to do research and get feedback from a partner. This gives the graduate students a chance to develop and refine their teaching techniques before leaving school, while the undergraduates benefit from the additional “one-on-one” help in between lessons and get to know fellow flute students more quickly.

Exercise Science
The Exercise Science program combines classroom, laboratory and internship experiences that will give you a comprehensive understanding of physical health, fitness and human performance. You will learn how to recognize and assess metabolic/physical, cardiovascular and pulmonary functions, and design and implement treatment plans for clients that improve their physical fitness and health.

You’ll also participate in internships designed to promote career readiness or preparation for graduate education in areas such as sports medicine, strength and conditioning, personal training and clinical research. As a UHart student, you’ll have opportunities to work with the University’s Division I athletic teams in these internships.

Actor Training
The actor training major challenges you to expand both your craft and your creative imagination so that you can be successful in a broad range of theatrical styles from the contemporary to the classical. A carefully planned progression of acting, voice and speech, and movement classes stimulates your talent and builds the capacity to be bold and innovative. Fourth-year actor training students audition for roles in the Hartford Stage Company’s season, including its annual production of A Christmas Carol.

You gain extensive training in logic, critical analysis, and creative problem solving, while having the flexibility to customize independent study courses based on your own interests and career goals.

The philosophy program also offers a Concentration in Philosophy and Social Justice. This dynamic and interdisciplinary program allows you to count courses from the Africana Studies, Environmental Studies, and Gender and Sexuality Studies minors toward a philosophy degree. The curriculum synthesizes applied and theoretical frameworks for social justice. You will learn about the causes of inequality and injustice, as well as how to apply moral and political philosophy to these issues.

Instrumental Performance - Guitar
In 1968, Hartt graduated its first guitar major and over the years the program has expanded to offer a Master of Music, Graduate Professional Diploma, Doctor of Musical Arts, and Artist Diploma.

At Hartt, you will participate in masterclasses given by world renowned performers. Past guest artists include Oscar Ghiglia, Antigoni Goni, and Andrew York.

Our graduates presently hold or have held guitar positions at various prestigious institutions, including New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, The Longy School of Music, and Oberlin Conservatory.

Our alumni and present students have won or been finalists in the Alirio Diaz International Guitar Competition in Venezuela, Guitar Foundation of America International Guitar Competition, American String Teachers Competition, MTNA competition, and Appalachian State Guitar Competition.
