Mathematics Secondary Education
If you love math and want to teach, you can work in a classroom your very first semester. We have two magnet schools located on campus, so you can hone your teaching skills at both the elementary and secondary levels. These experiences will lead to:

Photography
The curriculum integrates experimental, narrative, and documentary approaches to photography. You will be trained in black and white and color wet processes, studio practices, digital technologies, and a variety of historical techniques. A senior exhibition marks the culmination of the program of study.

English
If you love to read and write, the Department of English and Modern Languages is where you will learn critical reading, organizational skills, and research techniques. Plus you’ll learn how to use your imagination in our writing-intensive classes! Our faculty are award-winning teachers and published authors who take an interest in your work and get to know you well in our small class sizes.

We offer two areas of emphasis to choose from:

The Creative Writing emphasis helps you learn good research, writing, editing and storytelling skills while producing your own stories, poems, plays, critical and personal essays.

In the Literature emphasis, you study literature in historical and cultural contexts and learn how the works of generations of writers explore unifying ideas, ideals, achievements, and aspirations.

Music

A diverse range of courses in the humanities and sciences are geared toward developing the student's intellectual skills by emphasizing written communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and the importance of being an informed, socially responsible citizen of the world.

Electrical Engineering

The electrical engineering program covers a branch of engineering concerned with generating, distributing, processing, coding, transmitting, receiving, and deciphering electrical and electromagnetic signals.

Electrical engineering involves the study and application of electricity and electronics. It consists of a wide range of fields including electronic circuits, digital computing, robotics, sensors and instrumentation, electrical power, telecommunications, photonics, control systems, wireless communications, signal processing, and integrated circuits. BSEE graduates may obtain a professional license as a professional engineer (PE).

International Studies
At UHart, the world can be your classroom! Seventy-five percent of our international studies student study abroad for a semester, a year, or during our Winterterm or Summerterm.

You can concentrate in either global security or global development, and consider a double major in politics and government, economics, or modern languages and cultures.

If you are interested in a careers in government, business, education, the nonprofit sector, or certain areas of law, the international studies program gives you a solid foundation. It also is appropriate to prepare for graduate studies in a variety of fields.

Biomedical Engineering
The biomedical engineering program prepares you to work in today’s healthcare industry and learn how to support professionals, hospitals, and medical offices by creating and maintaining important tools and resources. Discover how to design and build biomedical equipment and devices for diagnosing medical problems and improving health for those in need.

Biomedical engineers speak two languages: that of the engineer and that of the health professional. They understand what is involved in examining people, evaluating their health, and understanding what is available to improve their quality of life. They also comprehend the science and mathematics behind these areas and can evaluate the potential of new devices and methods to improve on current technologies.

Music Production and Technology
Music production & technology at Hartt trains musicians to become music production professionals (i.e. recording, mixing, and mastering engineers).  Musicianship training has played an essential role for many, if not most, successful producers. Through study in music, electronics and acoustics, you will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work in the professional audio industry.

Psychology
If you are interested in studying psychology and are planning a career in business, industry, education, health services, personnel work, or in any field involving human relations, the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program is for you. It’s also the first step if you are interested in becoming a psychologist, which requires graduate training after you complete the undergraduate major.
