The International Pathway Program (IPP) is designed especially for international students who have proven their academic ability but need to strengthen their English skills to achieve positive results in the collegiate environment. Students study a combination of English Language courses and credit-bearing academic courses. So they can earn credits towards their degree from the beginning.

Music Management
When you decide to major in music management, you have the desire to pursue a strong musical and business course of study.  Playing a musical instrument or being a vocalist is required for entrance to the program. This can include classical instruments or classical voice, jazz instruments or voice, or commercial instruments (bass, drums, guitar, keyboard, or voice.)  

You will receive training in music theory, piano and keyboard, and music history, as well as weekly one hour lessons and coaching sessions with teachers in the performance area.  This combined with arts management and business courses give you the career ready skills to enter the industry.

Not only will you participate in music management events, but you also have the opportunity to participate in many of the large ensembles that make up Hartt’s music training program.

Computer Science
If you enjoy solving problems using computers, and you like to be creative and use your imagination, consider a degree in computer science. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science gives you a solid foundation in both theoretical and applied computer science.  Your first year, get a solid foundation of mathematics and the fundamentals of computing. Then you build upon that knowledge with more in-depth courses.

Cello
You will join a tight-knit community of artists who are perfecting their craft. Through personal attention and mentorship from Hartt’s accomplished faculty members, you will develop innovative ideas and career ready skills. Biochemistry
Our Biochemistry program lets you study the chemistry of the living world and is great combination if you enjoy physical and chemical sciences.
The biochemistry curriculum is designed to help you pursue graduate work in chemistry or biology, and/or acquire the skills necessary for a career in healthcare and science, such as:

• Medical research
• Veterinary medicine

Elementary Education
As an elementary education student, you will complete a subject major and may select any discipline offered by the University of Hartford or an interdisciplinary behavioral studies major. Your principal preparation, however, is the professional core comprising two full semesters of integrated professional practicum experience and one full semester of student teaching in public school settings.

Students who successfully complete the elementary education undergraduate program and the specified Praxis II examination(s) are eligible, on recommendation of the University, for Connecticut certification to teach first grade through sixth grade.

Students preparing for certification in elementary education have the option to enroll in our program integrating a special education core, leading to a dual certificate. This would be recommended in order to include special education students in a regular classroom.

Data Science
If you enjoy using math and computers to analyze data that can be used to find solutions to real-world problems or to influence business decisions, our new Bachelor of Science in Data Science is a good fit for you! Data scientists are in high demand as corporations are increasingly reliant on data to make informed decisions. The overall well-being of a community is also dependent on the ability to process and interpret important data to help address a broad range of societal issues.

The Data Science program provides you with the analytical and quantitative skills that are needed for a variety of careers that are growing at a fast pace.

What work does a data scientist perform? They create new processes for data modeling, algorithms, predictive models, and custom analysis. The information they extract helps businesses and organizations solve complex problems. Data Science is an emerging field that has numerous applications in many career areas including the sciences, business, engineering, health sciences, social sciences, and even the music industry. In fact, data science can be used anywhere!

Guitar
In 1968, Hartt graduated its first guitar major and over the years the program has expanded to offer a Master of Music, Graduate Professional Diploma, Doctor of Musical Arts, and Artist Diploma.

At Hartt, you will participate in masterclasses given by world renowned performers. Past guest artists include Oscar Ghiglia, Antigoni Goni, and Andrew York.

Our graduates presently hold or have held guitar positions at various prestigious institutions, including New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, The Longy School of Music, and Oberlin Conservatory.

Our alumni and present students have won or been finalists in the Alirio Diaz International Guitar Competition in Venezuela, Guitar Foundation of America International Guitar Competition, American String Teachers Competition, MTNA competition, and Appalachian State Guitar Competition.

In addition to classical guitar training, you will also experience chamber music, guitar pedagogy, guitar literature, lute and baroque guitar tablature, and electric guitar styles. Our goal is to graduate students who are well-prepared to enter the fields of concert performance and college teaching. Towards that end we hold weekly performance classes that are required of all performance majors. In addition, every year, we sponsor six to eight public performances as part of our Evening with Guitar concert series.  This provides our students the opportunity to develop and refine their performance skills in a professional setting.

Dance Performance
The dance performance emphasis is designed to prepare students for careers in dance as professional performing artists. Students in this program focus on technique, performance, and choreography while participating in some pedagogical training as well. In addition, they partake of the considerable resources of academic excellence available through the University of Hartford. This program offers future dance performers the opportunity to develop their craft and artistry in a challenging yet nurturing environment while expanding their ability to function as engaged and educated citizens throughout their careers.

Politics and Government
If you are planning a career in law, government, the civil services, politics, journalism, or the nonprofit sector, or policy analysis, our politics and government program gives you the opportunity to explore your interests and get hands-on experience before you graduate.
Politics and government is the study of policy, government, and law giving you an understanding about the processes by which power, authority, influence, control, freedom, wealth, and other political resources are competitively pursued, captured, and distributed. You also study how these become public policies, part of government, and the law.

Its rigors emphasize conceptual problem-solving, technical expertise, meeting deadlines, and other professional practices. We stress drawing knowledge and skill as the basis for all visual conceptualization. This is applied to both traditional and digital mediums.
