Double Bass
At The Hartt School, you will join a tight-knit community of artists who are perfecting their craft. Double bass activities include

• Weekly private lessons (technical and musical development of traditional and contemporary techniques and repertoire, and orchestral music)
• Orchestra Repertoire Class (excerpts and the audition process)
• Scales/Technique Class (compliments the work done in private lessons on achieving technical mastery)
• Repertoire Class (explores all aspects of the double bass literature and history, by listening to recordings, looking at scores, and discussing various topics)

Politics and Government
If you are planning a career in law, government, the civil services, politics, journalism, or the nonprofit sector, or policy analysis, our politics and government program gives you the opportunity to explore your interests and get hands-on experience before you graduate.
Politics and government is the study of policy, government, and law giving you an understanding about the processes by which power, authority, influence, control, freedom, wealth, and other political resources are competitively pursued, captured, and distributed. You also study how these become public policies, part of government, and the law.

Cinema
You have the opportunity to study film as a literary art form and learn production skills to create your own movie.   Here you can take advantage of opportunities to study film during a semester abroad or get additional experience through an internship at a production company in Connecticut, New York, or Boston.

Our alumni have gone to work at television networks and film production companies as directors, producers, and as directors of international film festivals.

Electromechanical Engineering Technology
Explore the technical side of engineering through the CEET program. Expand your skills through and design the program for your goals and interest through various coursework and five technical specialty electives. With this flexibility, you have the choice to advance programming skills or expand knowledge in areas like data acquisition and automated systems. You will also be trained to use industry-standard technology and software, to be well-prepared to start working full time after completing the program.

Radiologic Technology
Radiologic Technology is a dynamic, fast-paced profession that combines the use of sophisticated medical imaging technology with compassionate care of the ill and injured. As a radiologic technician, you’ll be a member of a team that helps diagnose and treat all types of pathologies and conditions.

Music
A diverse range of courses in the humanities and sciences are geared toward developing the student's intellectual skills by emphasizing written communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and the importance of being an informed, socially responsible citizen of the world.

Music Education
Hartt's Music Education Division offers you one of the nation's most comprehensive courses of study. Combining the rigors of conservatory training with a solid foundation in music education, the program prepares you for a career as an elementary and secondary school music educator. In addition to general music, choral music, wind and string instrumental pedagogy, music education majors receive training in such methodologies as Kodály, Suzuki, and Orff.

As an undergraduate, you will pursue a four-year instrumental or vocal emphasis. Students interested in jazz (saxophone, trumpet, and trombone) can pursue a double major in Music Education and Jazz Studies (5-year program). Please note that students interested in this double major must perform a jazz and classical audition because they will receive private instruction in both areas.

Elementary Education
As an elementary education student, you will complete a subject major and may select any discipline offered by the University of Hartford or an interdisciplinary behavioral studies major. Your principal preparation, however, is the professional core comprising two full semesters of integrated professional practicum experience and one full semester of student teaching in public school settings.

Students who successfully complete the elementary education undergraduate program and the specified Praxis II examination(s) are eligible, on recommendation of the University, for Connecticut certification to teach first grade through sixth grade.

Students preparing for certification in elementary education have the option to enroll in our program integrating a special education core, leading to a dual certificate. This would be recommended in order to include special education students in a regular classroom.

The horn studio at Hartt creates a supportive atmosphere that offers frequent collaboration with other students and studios.

Through weekly privates lessons, and weekly studio classes, you will focus on small ensemble and solo playing. At Hartt, you will receive comprehensive musical training while developing innovative ideas and career ready skills while gaining exposure to nationally and internationally recognized musicians (recent guest artists include Gene Pokorney of CSO, Julie Landsman of The Met, Ray Mase of ABQ.)
