Economic issues are everywhere. The study of economics explores the choices individuals make when faced with scarcity. The study of economics can be applied to any facet of life. Why are some countries rich and others poor? Why is Social Security short on funding? Why do men and women earn different incomes? Economics addresses these questions.

Many great internship opportunities exist within the field of economics. The Division of Economics and Finance works with several organizations such as the American Institute for Economic Research, the American Enterprise Institute, the Cato Institute, the Institute for Humane Studies, the Institute for Justice and the Tax Foundation to offer great internship opportunities to students pursuing degrees in economics.

The Division of Economics and Finance is also home to the Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy. The Johnson Center provides a dynamic and rigorous education program focused on the imperatives of free markets and individual liberty as well as relevant policy research on current and local issues. Students interested in the free enterprise system will enjoy the programs offered by the Johnson Center.

Students with a background in economics will find employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors. Entry level positions in the private sector include marketing research, management consulting, banking, investing and insurance. Government positions include economic forecasting, public policy/legislation analysis and economic impact studies.

Students may also choose to pursue a graduate education. An undergraduate degree in economics is an excellent foundation for graduate study in economics, business, law or public policy.

 The computer science program provides students with a curriculum in the key domains of computer science at undergraduate and graduate levels. Students in this program have the opportunity to work on individual and team projects that include game design, cell phone apps, web applications, visualizations and more. Students in the computer science undergraduate and graduate programs benefit from small classes and an active Computer Science Club, a student organization that hosts weekly seminars, study sessions and many other activities.

TROY’s undergraduate curriculum is centered in the latest technological advances taught by a caring and highly qualified faculty. Students work on individual and team projects, focusing on game design, cell phone apps, web applications, visualization, Teensy Board Programming and database accessing applications to name a few.

The educational experience offered by the program facilitates the development of students’ analytical and critical thinking capabilities as well as enhances oral and written communication skills. The program is designed to create an integrated academic learning environment for analyzing and resolving challenges in the sport industry. As students move through the program, they learn through a variety of mediums including lectures, seminars and practical experience through event and program execution and design. Students also have the option to complete an internship for career preparation.

The Sport Management faculty at TROY possesses expertise in a variety of areas acquired through their practical experiences in the sport industry, including professional, collegiate, recreational and high school. This program offers students the tools and direction to enter the professional Theatre industry, graduate study in Theatre, or work in a related field. Students have the opportunity to explore the broad world of Theatre while discovering and developing their own areas of interest and emphasis, gaining hands-on experience in performance, design, technology, management, playwriting, and advanced academic studies. Students develop résumé and portfolio materials, learn to network with industry professionals, and are encouraged to work professionally through employment opportunities and internships. The rich array of professional quality theatre, musical theatre, and dance productions each year give students a chance to immediately apply what is learned in the classroom, and new works and outreach initiatives allow students to experiment with creating and producing their own work.

Individuals interested in helping others will find that a degree in human services will prepare them for a variety of professional roles. Human services professionals may choose areas of practice that allow them to assist children and families, the elderly, the homeless, immigrants or veterans. In addition, they may assist people with addictions, criminal records, disabilities and mental illnesses.

Human services professionals work in a variety of organizations such as those assisting people with finding employment and appropriating food, nutrition, housing and shelter. They may also serve as victims’ assistants or work in public safety or disaster relief.

Through working your way through your undergraduate degree, you’ll find yourself a part of TROY’s Department of History, which is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences. European history
From the fall of the Roman Empire to today’s contemporary European culture, TROY’s European history courses will take you on a journey exploring some of the greatest victories and losses felt “across the pond.” These classes will equip you with a deeper understanding of topics such as the Crusades, medieval Europe, the Age of Enlightenment and the French Revolution and provide you with inspiration for your own future classroom.

Asian history
Study the ins and outs of Middle Eastern culture including information about Islam, the Ottoman Empire and the Western influence that has helped shape the Middle East since World War II. You’ll have the opportunity to study the development and interaction of Chinese, Japanese and Korean civilizations, as well as the impact of Western cultures, twentieth-century conflicts, resolutions and accommodations.

African history
You’ll have the chance to dive deep into Africa’s rich history with all its political, social and cultural milestones, including the continent’s division by European powers and decolonization. You’ll also have the chance to follow the history of African Americans from the 17th century to present day.
