TROY requires all students seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish degree to complete a study abroad program either on their own or through guided trips with faculty members.

To ensure the success of the instruction in the classroom, students are tested prior to graduation using the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages exam for oral and aural proficiency. The TROY Spanish Club is very active on campus and plays host to many cultural and language activities for students.

TROY students also work with native speakers from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, Costa Rica, Venezuela and other Spanish speaking countries inside the classroom. The TROY Spanish program not only prepares students to speak and write Spanish at an intermediate level or higher, it focuses on the cultural similarities and differences between Spanish speaking countries and the United States.

Individuals interested in helping others will find that a degree in human services will prepare them for a variety of professional roles. Human services professionals may choose areas of practice that allow them to assist children and families, the elderly, the homeless, immigrants or veterans. In addition, they may assist people with addictions, criminal records, disabilities and mental illnesses.

Human services professionals work in a variety of organizations such as those assisting people with finding employment and appropriating food, nutrition, housing and shelter. They may also serve as victims’ assistants or work in public safety or disaster relief.

Through working your way through your undergraduate degree, you’ll find yourself a part of TROY’s Department of History, which is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences. Within your history coursework, you will set the groundwork for your degree by studying world history, U.S. history and world geography. European history
From the fall of the Roman Empire to today’s contemporary European culture, TROY’s European history courses will take you on a journey exploring some of the greatest victories and losses felt “across the pond.” These classes will equip you with a deeper understanding of topics such as the Crusades, medieval Europe, the Age of Enlightenment and the French Revolution and provide you with inspiration for your own future classroom.

Asian history
Study the ins and outs of Middle Eastern culture including information about Islam, the Ottoman Empire and the Western influence that has helped shape the Middle East since World War II. You’ll have the opportunity to study the development and interaction of Chinese, Japanese and Korean civilizations, as well as the impact of Western cultures, twentieth-century conflicts, resolutions and accommodations.

African history
You’ll have the chance to dive deep into Africa’s rich history with all its political, social and cultural milestones, including the continent’s division by European powers and decolonization. You’ll also have the chance to follow the history of African Americans from the 17th century to present day.

The BFA in Dance not only prepares its graduates for a professional performance career, it also offers extensive training in choreography, pedagogy, and artistic direction. The comprehensive major is a competitive program in which students train intensively in the styles of Ballet and Contemporary, in addition, recognizing the evolution occurring in Dance of the 21st century, TROY’s BFA also allows the dancer to focus on the Commercial Dance industry. The anthropology major is a part of the Troy University Social Science Department. The program offers a wide variety of courses in cultural anthropology and archaeology. Through the Troy Archaeological Research Center (TUARC), students have the opportunity to participate in field and laboratory research and are often offered opportunities for part-time employment while attending school.

The anthropology major offers students a broad background in the field of anthropology, which includes physical, linguistics, cultural and archaeology anthropology. Our instructors bring field experience from the Near East, Australia and the southeastern United States to the program.
