The study of communication is fundamental to understanding how messages are interpreted through cultural, political, economic, social and psychological dimensions. That’s why variety and flexibility are found at the core of TROY’s Communication Arts degree with an emphasis in Communication Studies.

TROY’s communication studies track develops both humanistic and social scientific skills to explore how people create and share meaning. As a communication studies major, you will hone writing, research, presentation and analytical skills that are critical to your future success. You’ll also learn how to develop effective, ethical messages using traditional and emerging media and techniques. Students are given four options to emphasize in this highly rigorous program of study: 2D, 3D, Photography and Digital Studio. Studio art encompasses visual art such as photographs, paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures and ceramics. Within the bachelor of studio arts program at TROY, you will be introduced to desktop graphic applications, emerging technological advancements in art and design and principles of two-, three- and four-dimensional space and drawing. You will also examine the development of art from pre-history to the Gothic period focusing on the various social and cultural factors that determine the uses and appearance of art at different times.

The mission of the Master of Accountancy program is to prepare students for careers with increasing professional and managerial responsibility in public accounting, government, and industry, as well as prepare students for admission to accounting Ph.D. programs. To achieve this, the program will focus on the development of specialized functional accounting knowledge; effective research and communication skills; using technology appropriate for the accounting profession; objectivity, integrity, and ethical behavior; and effective critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.

To become licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Alabama and most other jurisdictions, students must complete additional educational requirements beyond the bachelor’s degree. Students can satisfy these requirements through our Master of Accountancy program.

For example, in TROY’s hotel management course, you’ll shadow different areas of local hotels to experience what happens within different departments, and in your restaurant management course, you’ll work in groups to create a restaurant concept that looks at everything from layout and décor to menu design and menu development.

You may also choose to learn and explore within the applied health science program’s three other concentrations in the areas of communication, nutrition and humanities to further develop your area of interest in the medical profession. An additional option, as you work your way through the program, will be to pursue a degree in nursing by applying to the nursing school with the proper GPA and required course completion.
