In today’s society, the number of people with disabilities continues to grow. Because of this, there is a growing demand for rehabilitation professionals and other workers who provide services to people with disabilities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook, physical therapists are among the fastest growing occupations in the nation with more than a 22 percent growth rate projected from 2018-2028.

That growth isn’t only felt in the physical therapy field—other rehabilitation-related occupations are expected to grow rapidly, as well. The BLS projects there will be a 22 percent growth rate among professions such as mental health counseling, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and substance abuse counseling.

TROY’s hospitality management program provides you with courses designed to give you an overview of the industry as well as hands-on learning opportunities. For example, in TROY’s hotel management course, you’ll shadow different areas of local hotels to experience what happens within different departments, and in your restaurant management course, you’ll work in groups to create a restaurant concept that looks at everything from layout and décor to menu design and menu development.

Your course work will also prepare you to work with diverse groups, strengthen your written and oral communication skills as well as your organizational and leadership skills. The BFA in Dance not only prepares its graduates for a professional performance career, it also offers extensive training in choreography, pedagogy, and artistic direction. The comprehensive major is a competitive program in which students train intensively in the styles of Ballet and Contemporary, in addition, recognizing the evolution occurring in Dance of the 21st century, TROY’s BFA also allows the dancer to focus on the Commercial Dance industry. A bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology provides the academic and field experience to prepare students for such rewarding careers in marine science as conducting research at universities and marine laboratories and working for industry or state and federal environmental agencies. The program of study includes two summers at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab taking courses such as Vertebrate Zoology, Oceanography, Marine Ecology and Marine Botany, among other choices. The Master of Science Graduate Program in Environmental and Biological Sciences is designed to broaden the student's perspective and provide skills and knowledge for understanding and solving problems in the environmental and biological sciences. The program teaches students the direct and indirect economic, social, and political contributions of the environmental and biological sciences. The program underscores the interdisciplinary and cooperative nature of environmental and biological issues. Physics graduates generally see approximately 94 percent employment rates one year after graduation. Roughly half of the graduates go into the private sector and enter the workforce in the fields of engineering, civilian government laboratory research, computer or information systems, natural sciences or other science, technology engineering and mathematics fields.

The physics major requires 65 hours in general studies, 18 hours in a minor subject of study and 37 hours in the major field. The major includes a solid foundation in fundamental physics and an up-to-date curriculum taught by an expert faculty committed to helping students succeed.

TROY physics faculty members have expertise in theoretical physics, optics and nuclear physics and provide individualized attention for students. Faculty members frequently perform experimental demonstrations during classes to help ground student’s knowledge in real-world phenomena.

Physics majors will take coursework in mechanics, modern physics, optics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism and quantum mechanics. In addition, the department offers advanced undergraduate courses in special relativity, general relativity, black holes and nuclear physics.
