As a graduate of TROY’s surveying and geomatics sciences program, you’ll have opportunities to work as a surveyor with some of the most modern and precise satellite navigation systems and measurement devices. TROY surveying and geomatics sciences graduates play key roles in the design and construction of the nation’s buildings, roads, bridges, tunnels, water-supply systems and utilities. The study of communication is fundamental to understanding how messages are interpreted through cultural, political, economic, social and psychological dimensions. That’s why variety and flexibility are found at the core of TROY’s Communication Arts degree with an emphasis in Communication Studies.

TROY’s communication studies track develops both humanistic and social scientific skills to explore how people create and share meaning. As a communication studies major, you will hone writing, research, presentation and analytical skills that are critical to your future success. You’ll also learn how to develop effective, ethical messages using traditional and emerging media and techniques. All of this is done while enhancing your own self-awareness as you learn about your individual communication strengths and weaknesses and how to improve your skills.

This program boasts a curriculum that balances academic research with creative expression and community service. As a student within TROY’s Hall School of Journalism and Communication, you’ll learn about emerging media presentation technologies. The purpose of Troy University's English major is to prepare undergraduate students to enter today's professions, public services, or graduate programs with literacy in English and American language. They also gain a knowledge of the world's literary culture adequate for success in today's global culture. They develop skills in formulating answers to questions through open-minded research. They also develop approaches to logical, critical, and creative thinking. Some of the other tangible goals sought in the program include:

• A development of clarity, directness, and effective personal style in the spoken and written language that characterize a well-educated person in today's global community;
• An appreciation and understanding of the long process of development behind the language and cultural configurations that define meaningful communication today, and an appreciation and understanding of the necessity for carrying this intellectual development forward in a responsible way;

The anthropology major is a part of the Troy University Social Science Department. The program offers a wide variety of courses in cultural anthropology and archaeology. Through the Troy Archaeological Research Center (TUARC), students have the opportunity to participate in field and laboratory research and are often offered opportunities for part-time employment while attending school.

The anthropology major offers students a broad background in the field of anthropology, which includes physical, linguistics, cultural and archaeology anthropology. Our instructors bring field experience from the Near East, Australia and the southeastern United States to the program. TROY's SLI program is a 31- to 33-hour program—offered in thesis and non-thesis track options—that focuses on preparing domestic and international students for future careers in second language teaching.

The direct practice concentration offers students a one-of-a-kind opportunity in Alabama. Students will receive specialized training in providing advanced level social work services to individuals, families and groups. In addition, Troy University’s long partnership with the United States military, and TROY’s faculty with military backgrounds, provide the student the unique opportunity to gain focused training in dealing with military families. Graduates in this concentration have the opportunity to fill an unmet need in many areas of public and private social work in addition to filling the specific unmet need for social work services for our active duty military and reserve personnel.
