• The undergraduate finance degree at the University of Delaware has been recognized by the CFA Institute as a program that incorporates over 75% of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Exam Material into its curriculum, including the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Student Organizations
The Blue Hen Investment Club is the University of Delaware’s student-managed investment fund with $1.8 million assets under management. It is open to students of all majors who are willing to commit to managing a portion of the university’s endowment.

Over the years, the fund has created leaders who have found careers with institutions such as Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, UBS, PwC, EY, KPMG and McKinsey & Company.

Biological systems have many interacting units at the level of molecules, cells, organs and organisms. These complicated systems may be understood through the construction, analysis and computational simulation of mathematical models. Such models exploit both theory and observation to provide new predictions of the behavior of complex biological systems. The UD Quantitative Biology Program equips students with crucial mathematical tools along with the requisite scientific knowledge necessary to apply them in the life sciences.

The Department of Art Conservation is an international leader committed to educating professional conservators skilled in the examination, analysis, treatment and care of cultural heritage. The department consists of an undergraduate and master’s program in art conservation.

Connecting the arts, humanities and sciences, an undergraduate degree in art conservation prepares students for graduate-level study in the preservation of material culture, historic preservation, museum studies, library science and other related fields. This program, one of only five in the nation, offers students the opportunity to work with leading conservators and scientists while studying a range of cultural materials from archaeological to indigenous and contemporary from the UD Special Collections & Museum and collecting repositories worldwide.  Since 1971, our graduates have preserved iconic treasures from the Declaration of Independence to the Emancipation Proclamation, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the decorative interiors of the Forbidden City and most recently the George Floyd Memorial. Their work engages communities, strengthens cultural understanding and fosters knowledge and joy.

Environmental and Resource Economics applies economic principles to the many and varied environmental and natural resource challenges facing our society today and in the future. In this major, you will study how human decisions impact our environment and natural resources, including issues involving land use, water supply, water quality, air quality, agriculture, fisheries, and forestry. Do you have an interest in environmental and resource management, economic analysis, or weighing the costs and benefits of alternative environmental policies? We will provide you with a solid foundation in resource economics, business and the environment, topped with a range of data and analytical specialties.

Conserving insects, the foundation of the world’s biodiversity, is the first step towards protecting the planet. Insects are becoming extinct faster than any other group of species. From their role as major pest species threatening global food security to their use as a nutritious protein source that could help feed the world, the integrity and maintenance of insect diversity is one of the grand challenges facing coming generations. Join our Insect Ecology and Conservation major and experience a hands-on education that will empower you to make a difference in the stewardship of our planet.

Do you have an interest in business but aren’t sure what area of the field to focus on? Food and fiber industries constitute approximately 16 percent of the U.S. economy with a value of over $2.5 trillion and 20 million jobs. The production of food is only a small part of this total, with most of the effort, resources and jobs involved in creating and marketing products to consumers. The Food and Agribusiness Marketing and Management major focuses on the unique aspects of these industries, including food marketing, management and leadership, and entrepreneurship. Not only will you obtain a strong background in business principles, you will graduate with the knowledge of how the agribusiness sector operates and impacts domestic and world economies. The job market is hungry for students well trained in business but who also understand the unique nature and dynamics of the food and fiber industry. In fact, agricultural economics related majors rank second in employability among all college majors

Medical laboratory science encompasses the essence of biology, chemistry, and medicine. It is associated with the prevention, diagnosis, and therapy of disease through the understanding, application, and performance of clinical laboratory analyses. Medical laboratory scientists perform laboratory tests on blood and other body fluids to aid in the maintenance of health and the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The medical laboratory science major prepares students for national certification as medical laboratory scientists through the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC).

Freshmen enter as medical laboratory and diagnostics interest majors. In order to enter the medical laboratory science major at the end of the sophomore year certain criteria are required: a minimum 2.00 GPA for the first 4 semesters, minimum 2.00 GPA for prerequisite courses in chemistry and biological sciences (science index), and completion of at least 60 credit hours, including the prerequisite courses. Admission to the junior/senior major is determined by academic achievement. Students who meet the standards are admitted to the major in descending order of grade point average until the 36 positions in the junior class are filled. In the past, all sophomores with both a 2.5 or better GPA and a 2.00 or better science index have been successful in gaining admission to the junior/senior major.

The Global Studies major enables students to succeed in an increasingly globalized society by exposing them to the political and cultural foundations of global issues. Our majors develop an analytical approach to critical issues that appear across national boundaries and cultural regions — examining them from a variety of disciplines. This integrated interdisciplinary program of study prepares majors for a broad range of career paths including government and international business or in international health, humanitarian, environmental, development and other types of non-governmental agencies.

Think fashion is only about great designs? Think again. Producing great designers is only part of the apparel design program at the University of Delaware. In addition to becoming proficient in conceptualization, drawing and rendering, flat pattern development, draping and product development, students explore and address the challenges in the apparel industry.

Fashion design students develop an understanding of the complexities of the industry and responses necessary to build a more sustainable model. Computer-aided design, portfolio development, textiles, and historical costume courses enable our students to have a holistic understanding of the present and future needs of the fashion design industry.
