Over half of the world’s population is bilingual or multilingual, while only one in five U.S. citizens speaks a language other than English. Knowledge of other languages and cultures gives our graduates a competitive advantage in any career, and is highly valued in international business and professional communities. Our graduates choose a variety of career paths in teaching, entertainment and media, government, travel, financial services or international business. Some students enter careers with international or non-governmental organizations such as the International Red Cross or the World Health Organization, while others go on to advanced degrees in preparation for work in international law, diplomacy and college teaching.

With the increase in data available to businesses, organizations and consumers, the need to make sense of that data has exploded. As a result, statistics is one of the fastest growing majors on college campuses. We use the expression, “few are called and less are chosen.” Statistician has become the No. 2 in Best Business Job according to U.S. News & World Report! Statistics requires excellent math skills, a sense of data structure and manipulation, and good problem solving skills.  The combination of these areas enables statisticians to assist in research and discovery in almost every discipline. To researchers, statistics is a set of tools to help estimate effects and test hypotheses.  To statisticians, the field is an exciting combination of theory, methods, and discovery used to guide research and bring products to market faster.

With a UD accounting degree, you will have the skills you need to tell the financial stories of businesses by recording, analyzing and communicating financial information.

You’ll gain the expertise you need to interpret this data and help businesses make important investment decisions. And you’ll play a critical role in the financial arena, determining how investments are performing over time and considering how and when businesses should expand.

Organizational and Community Leadership majors accept the challenge of leadership in an increasingly complex, global and fast-paced world. With strong backgrounds in communication, business, creativity, policy, decision-making, innovation, strategic planning and project management, our graduates are prepared to lead change that improves the lives of individuals and provides vision for the future growth and well-being of public, private, government and community organizations.

For almost a century, the University of Delaware’s Physics and Astronomy program has provided a world class undergraduate physics education that meets the goals of STEM education. Our graduates join a variety of physical science and engineering graduate programs, enter medical school, find employment in industry and teach in high schools all over the country.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a program in Actuarial Science leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. The major, with courses taught by faculty in the Departments of Economics, Finance, and Mathematical Sciences (among others), provides a strong background in actuarial science, including the satisfaction of all three actuarial science VEE requirements. Students graduating with this degree will be well prepared for the first two actuarial examinations, the foundation of an actuarial career.

Do you have an interest in business but aren’t sure what area of the field to focus on? Food and fiber industries constitute approximately 16 percent of the U.S. economy with a value of over $2.5 trillion and 20 million jobs. The production of food is only a small part of this total, with most of the effort, resources and jobs involved in creating and marketing products to consumers. The Food and Agribusiness Marketing and Management major focuses on the unique aspects of these industries, including food marketing, management and leadership, and entrepreneurship. Not only will you obtain a strong background in business principles, you will graduate with the knowledge of how the agribusiness sector operates and impacts domestic and world economies. The job market is hungry for students well trained in business but who also understand the unique nature and dynamics of the food and fiber industry. In fact, agricultural economics related majors rank second in employability among all college majors

The sport management major is designed to prepare you for a successful career in the multi-billion dollar sport industry.

As a sport management major, you’ll take courses that are specific to the sport management discipline, as well as business courses that will help you to develop quantitative analysis skills and an understanding of essential business concepts.

• The Lerner College sport management program will help you to go above and beyond your passion for sport by challenging you academically and providing you with practical experience outside the classroom. As part of this experience, you’ll complete a nine-credit internship during your senior year.

Volunteering

• As a Lerner College sport management student, you will have access to a number of volunteer opportunities with the UD Athletic Department and other sport organizations in the area. Our goal is for you to gain as much practical experience as possible while developing professional networks within the sport industry.

Students studying chemistry education engage in observation, analysis, synthesis and experimentation, breaking natural substances down into their component parts, replicating in the laboratory chemical processes that occur in the physical world and creating new substances to fulfill specific needs. The courses offered in the chemistry education major emphasize the practical application of the principles of chemistry and students learn how chemical knowledge can benefit humankind and society.
