As a sport management major, you’ll take courses that are specific to the sport management discipline, as well as business courses that will help you to develop quantitative analysis skills and an understanding of essential business concepts.

Internship Opportunities

• The Lerner College sport management program will help you to go above and beyond your passion for sport by challenging you academically and providing you with practical experience outside the classroom. As part of this experience, you’ll complete a nine-credit internship during your senior year.

Volunteering

• As a Lerner College sport management student, you will have access to a number of volunteer opportunities with the UD Athletic Department and other sport organizations in the area. Our goal is for you to gain as much practical experience as possible while developing professional networks within the sport industry.

Engage with politics, culture and language

Combine your love of French and your interest in government and political systems in this exciting major offered jointly by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the Department of Political Science and International Relations. French language courses will help you acquire the skills necessary to communicate effectively in Francophone settings. Courses in politics, business, literature and civilization will provide you with a thorough understanding of French and Francophone political and cultural environments.

Chemistry involves the study of solids, liquids and gases; and the transformations they undergo in combination with each other. Chemists engage in observation, analysis, and experimentation, breaking natural substances down into their components, replicating in the laboratory chemical processes that occur in the physical world and creating substances to fulfill specific needs. Chemical discoveries play an important role in helping us understand the world around us. Biochemistry, the study of chemical compounds and processes that occur in living organisms, has emerged as a field with growing impact on our ability to diagnose and treat diseases in animals, plants and humans.

Women and Gender Studies majors explore the past and current status of women around the world and the formation of gender and its intersections with other relations of power such as sexuality, race, class, nationality, religion, ability and age.

Topics are addressed within the context of a transnational world and from perspectives diverse as history, sociology, political science, linguistics, economics, anthropology, literary and cultural studies, philosophy, science, religion and the arts. The department offers a B.A. degree in Women and Gender Studies with an Honors Degree option and minors in Domestic Violence Prevention and Services (DVPS) and Sexualities and Gender Studies (SGST).  Majors may apply to complete a concentration in Domestic Violence Prevention and Services or in Women in Global Perspective.  In addition, internships are available providing students with the opportunity to integrate what they have learned in the classroom with practical competencies that can only be gained from work experience. Students enrolled in our programs receive frequent customized advisement based on their course of study and career goals.

Chemical engineering deals with the physical, chemical and biological transformations of matter — engineering on the molecular scale. With its emphasis on problem-solving skills, quantitative analysis and teamwork, a chemical engineering education provides an excellent foundation for a wide range of fulfilling future careers. Graduates of our program are in strong demand and hired by a broad array of employers, including companies in the energy, biotechnology, semiconductor, management, consulting, and pharmaceutical industries, in addition to a variety of small start-up companies and the chemical process industry. Graduates also pursue careers in medicine, law and business.

Sociology is the study of social organizations, social change and the social causes and consequences of human behavior in the modern world. The sociology major offers a liberal arts curriculum that integrates theory and methods with courses focusing on contemporary social issues and problems. Emphasis is placed on inequalities of race, class and gender; social justice; deviance and criminology; social correlates of health and wellbeing; disasters and the environment; and law and society. The major provides students with foundational skills for informed citizenship and active participation in their communities. Sociology teaches a distinctive way of looking at society and offers unique insights into social behavior through research and other opportunities for experiential learning.

As a management information systems (MIS) major, you will learn to use information technology to solve business problems and find creative competitive advantages. You will learn to leverage information technology to spot business trends, help companies achieve success and add value to business processes. You will learn to analyze needs, design user interfaces and develop custom database systems to help businesses run faster and smoother.

• The peer mentors are accounting and MIS students that serve as liaisons between the department and the students. Peer mentors give guidance to students on topics ranging from major/minor selection and campus organizations to the job search process. The secondary history education program produces middle and high school teachers who are dedicated to transforming the lives of future generations through teaching social studies. Biomedical engineering applies quantitative engineering analysis and design to biological and medical problems. It is a field dedicated to revealing basic knowledge of disease mechanisms to improve human health, and to developing new technologies and therapies to improve the quality of life.

The aim of our undergraduate program is to provide students with the training necessary to bridge the gaps between medicine, engineering and biomedical research. We provide a broad foundation in chemical, mechanical, materials science and electrical engineering to prepare students for careers in biomedical research and design with a quantitative engineering emphasis. Our undergraduate program is also designed to provide students with sufficient coursework for advanced training at graduate, medical, or in other health professions. The outlook for biomedical engineers is incredibly promising. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment for biomedical engineers will grow by 7% between 2016 and 2026.
