By studying geological sciences, you will study the planet, the processes that change our landscapes, the history of life and the interactions between environment and society. You will gain the practical and in-demand skills to collect scientific data, inform policy decisions and study the environmental impacts of things like fracking, oil and natural gas extraction, renewable resources, climate change, and more.  Geological sciences graduates are in high demand with starting salaries ranging from $50,000 to $100,000 annually.

Graduates of our program are highly qualified English teachers who not only have a broad and deep content knowledge but also are experienced in teaching this content to adolescents.

The UD Ancient Greek and Roman Studies Program provides students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture and civilization of Ancient Greece and Rome. As a program of study, Ancient Greek and Roman Studies concerns itself with all aspects of ancient Greek and Roman culture and its influence through the Middle Ages and Renaissance up to the present day. The program focuses not just on Greek and Roman language and literature but also on material culture (art history and archaeology); on economic, political, social and intellectual history; and on philosophy, religion and myth. Unlike most other areas of study, Ancient Greek and Roman Studies is truly interdisciplinary and—as such—provides a unique experience for students with many different interests and intended career paths.

The Nutrition and Medical Sciences major provides students with a strong science foundation focused in biology, physiology, and chemistry, and is particularly designed for those expecting to pursue an advanced degree in graduate school, medical school, dental school, or other health-related professions (e.g. physician assistant, pharmacy, physical therapy). The core sciences paired with nutrition courses build knowledge about the relationships between biological and chemical processes, nutrition, metabolism and health.

?The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a program in Actuarial Science leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. The major, with courses taught by faculty in the Departments of Economics, Finance, and Mathematical Sciences (among others), provides a strong background in actuarial science, including the satisfaction of all three actuarial science VEE requirements. Students graduating with this degree will be well prepared for the first two actuarial examinations, the foundation of an actuarial career.

Employment of civil engineers is projected to grow by 11 percent between 2016 and 2026, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Our civil engineering program prepares students with foundations in math, science, and engineering through required courses. Then, students take technical electives in the focus areas of structural, geotechnical, environmental, water resources, transportation, railroad, or ocean and coastal engineering. Minors in civil engineering, environmental engineering, sustainable infrastructure, and environmental sustainability are also offered.

Our faculty are active researchers, ensuring that the content of the undergraduate program is constantly renewed and maintained at a challenging technical level and integrates discovery learning. Opportunities abound for undergraduates to work with faculty and graduate students as research assistants, either for pay or independent study credit. Research in the department covers a broad range of topics with particular strengths in bridge design, construction, evaluation and rehabilitation; applications of composite materials to concrete, steel, and earth structures; field studies and numerical and physical modeling of wave/shoreline interactions; intelligent transportation systems; management and operation of civil infrastructure systems; natural disaster risk modeling and sustainability.

The Bachelor of Music in Composition emphasizes instruction in musical composition, improvisation and multimedia creative activities. Many students in this major continue on to graduate studies in composition at well-known institutions with the goal of working in higher education or to compose vocationally.

The Composition Studio is a vibrant and highly active group within the University of Delaware’s School of Music. Composition students remain active as performers and are able to participate in all of the school’s ensembles and productions. Diversity in compositional style and philosophy is encouraged, as is interdisciplinary collaboration and experimentation. Close association with the theory and musicology areas, in addition to the performance area, provides for a well-rounded academic education where music composition students can enhance and support their creative work with specialized research and performance.

Studying environmental science at UD, you will learn how natural processes shape the natural environment and how humans impact nature. If you are passionate about the outdoors, the environmental science major can help you find solutions to environmental issues like habitat loss, sustainable development, water quality, biodiversity, climate change, renewable energy, and more. Environmental science takes a multidisciplinary approach to studying the atmosphere, ocean, earth, and ecosystems, which you then develop into a specialty through studying one of the concentrations listed below. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, environmental science jobs are predicted to grow 8% faster than the overall job market average between 2019 and 2029.

Chemistry involves the study of solids, liquids and gases; and the transformations they undergo in combination with each other. Chemists engage in observation, analysis, and experimentation, breaking natural substances down into their components, replicating in the laboratory chemical processes that occur in the physical world and creating substances to fulfill specific needs. Chemical discoveries play an important role in helping us understand the world around us. Biochemistry, the study of chemical compounds and processes that occur in living organisms, has emerged as a field with growing impact on our ability to diagnose and treat diseases in animals, plants and humans.
