• The peer mentors are accounting and MIS students that serve as liaisons between the department and the students. For almost a century, the University of Delaware’s Physics and Astronomy program has provided a world class undergraduate physics education that meets the goals of STEM education. Our graduates join a variety of physical science and engineering graduate programs, enter medical school, find employment in industry and teach in high schools all over the country.

Psychology is the study of the basic processes of the mind and the brain and the behavior they produce. Our undergraduates learn about basic principles of human and animal behavior, the scientific methods used to derive and refine those principles and appropriate ways to apply such knowledge.

The secondary social studies education program comprises of seven different majors: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. We produce middle and high school teachers who are dedicated to transforming the lives of future generations through teaching social studies. As computer systems and the Internet of Things become an essential part of everyday lives, protecting their security and privacy is a top priority. In our interconnected world, cyberattacks can affect businesses and communities all over the world, and cybersecurity engineers are the ones defending our rapidly changing digital frontier. Cybersecurity engineers design hardened systems, build secure applications and networks, analyze data breaches and identify vulnerabilities in cyberspace, confronting emerging threats and driving technological innovation. UD Cybersecurity Engineering graduates are in high demand as the cybersecurity industry rapidly grows every year. Most graduates pursue exciting careers in the private sector, including technology companies, banking institutions, and telecommunication providers, as well as government agencies, research centers, and the defense industry. Alternatively, cybersecurity engineering graduates choose to pursue graduate education, including master’s or Ph.D. degrees, as well as attend business, medical or law schools. Students who earn advanced degrees in engineering usually advance into leadership positions within their discipline, or pursue a career in advanced research in industry or academia.

Do you have an interest in business but aren’t sure what area of the field to focus on? Food and fiber industries constitute approximately 16 percent of the U.S. economy with a value of over $2.5 trillion and 20 million jobs. The production of food is only a small part of this total, with most of the effort, resources and jobs involved in creating and marketing products to consumers. The Food and Agribusiness Marketing and Management major focuses on the unique aspects of these industries, including food marketing, management and leadership, and entrepreneurship. Not only will you obtain a strong background in business principles, you will graduate with the knowledge of how the agribusiness sector operates and impacts domestic and world economies. The job market is hungry for students well trained in business but who also understand the unique nature and dynamics of the food and fiber industry. In fact, agricultural economics related majors rank second in employability among all college majors

With a UD accounting degree, you will have the skills you need to tell the financial stories of businesses by recording, analyzing and communicating financial information.

UD’s Early Childhood Education major prepares students to help young children--with and without special need--to reach their full potential. Graduates can teach in public and private schools and child care programs, become early interventionists and advocates, or work for community service agencies.

Our coursework focuses on child development--teaching students how to identify appropriate instructional strategies and materials that meet each child’s social, cognitive, and physical characteristics. Early childhood education students gain real-world experience, on our children’s campus and in community agencies and schools, working with young children from diverse backgrounds and with special needs.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a program in Actuarial Science leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. The major, with courses taught by faculty in the Departments of Economics, Finance, and Mathematical Sciences (among others), provides a strong background in actuarial science, including the satisfaction of all three actuarial science VEE requirements. Students graduating with this degree will be well prepared for the first two actuarial examinations, the foundation of an actuarial career.

Health Behavior Science is the study of how individual (e.g., race, age, disability, knowledge), social (e.g., peer-groups), and environmental (e.g., access to parks, worksite wellness programs) factors shape our health and well-being across the lifespan. We work to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce the burden of disease through the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs to change specific health behaviors for individuals and/or target populations. Students are also required to complete a minor in an approved area of expertise or complete the Health and Disability concentration to provide additional focused skills that enhance their job competitiveness. Students pursuing this major are well prepared for careers in health promotion and education, community health, worksite wellness, health coaching, personal training, and advanced graduate programs including health promotion/public health, physical/occupational therapy, physician assistant, and accelerated nursing programs. The program culminates with an internship experience that enhances the school to work transition.

There is a global need for professionals trained to provide critical social services to children, adults and families from diverse backgrounds—counseling, educating, coordinating and advocating for people.

Human Services (HS) majors develop the skills necessary to make a difference in the lives of children, adolescents, adults and families. Choosing from one of four concentrations, students can prepare to work in a variety of settings including non-profit organizations, schools, hospitals, community programs, legal aid and advocacy organizations, where they can have a positive impact in fields such as youth development, disabilities, race relations, juvenile justice, substance abuse prevention and domestic violence prevention.

Information Systems is an evolving scientific area of study that bridges the gap between business and computer science.

Networks of computers extend human brainpower by creating modes of communication and record keeping that are at once more complex and more convenient than ever before. To be effective, these systems must aid and enhance our business, government and service organizations, which requires a careful understanding of the factors controlling human interactions, as well as the technical potential and limitations of computer systems.

The Department of Computer and Information Sciences offers students a Bachelor of Science major in Information Systems (INSY-BS), which combines business and information technology subjects. The major addresses student demand for courses oriented toward the design of new software systems for business and consumer needs. Students enrolled in the major must fulfill a set of major courses along with 1) a set of business courses (referred to as the business core) and 2) a set of information systems courses (referred to as the information systems core).

The business core emphasizes management and marketing issues. Students are prepared for careers in management and financial matters through courses in accounting, finance, operations management, organizational behavior, and marketing.

The information core stresses the use of computing technology in solving business problems.

Course work includes technological problem solving and project management, as well as a selection of advanced computer science courses designed to prepare students for careers in programming, business telecommunication networks, system development, database systems, and software engineering.
