For almost a century, the University of Delaware’s Physics and Astronomy program has provided a world class undergraduate physics education that meets the goals of STEM education. Our graduates join a variety of physical science and engineering graduate programs, enter medical school, find employment in industry and teach in high schools all over the country.

Students completing a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory undergo a rigorous program that prepares them to continue on to graduate study in the field. In addition to working closely with the theory faculty, students receive mentoring and are encouraged to attend and present at regional and national conferences. Students also write an extended research paper on a related topic chosen in consultation with their adviser, in addition to completing studies in cognate fields such as foreign languages, music history and research methods.

?Advanced courses in counterpoint, orchestration, analysis, keyboard harmony and analytical technique seminars exposes our students to a broad array of approaches to understanding, analyzing, hearing, performing and composing music. By offering numerous ways to deepen one’s engagement with music, theory courses provide a solid foundation for musical experiences at the University of Delaware and beyond.

As a management information systems (MIS) major, you will learn to use information technology to solve business problems and find creative competitive advantages. You will learn to leverage information technology to spot business trends, help companies achieve success and add value to business processes. You will learn to analyze needs, design user interfaces and develop custom database systems to help businesses run faster and smoother.

Peer Mentors

• The peer mentors are accounting and MIS students that serve as liaisons between the department and the students. Peer mentors give guidance to students on topics ranging from major/minor selection and campus organizations to the job search process. You can contact them with a quick question or to develop a long-term mentor/mentee relationship – they are here to make sure you get everything you can out of your college experience.

Anthropologists study us. We learn how and why people and their cultures are both similar and different over time and around the world. Anthropologists study people and primates face-to-face and we study past peoples by exploring fossils and digging archaeological sites. We examine the origins of humans as cultural beings; the processes that create particular cultures; and how cultures change as people, things, and ideas move and encounter others. In our globalized world, we ask how the local influences and shapes the regional, national and global, and in turn, how the global affects the local. Every career today requires understanding of other cultures, and how they influence our complicated, rapidly changing, interconnected human experience. There’s no limit to where you can go with that kind of understanding of our world and its peoples.

Spanish is the second-most popular language in the world, spoken by more than 400 million people. A major in Spanish Studies enables students to communicate with people of different linguistic and cultural backgrounds and helps foster understanding between cultures in our global society.

The ability to use a foreign language and to employ knowledge about another culture is highly valued by the business and professional communities, and multilingualism and intercultural competence are essential credentials for leadership today in diverse fields. Our graduates choose a variety of career paths: some become teachers, translators or interpreters; others are employed in publishing, broadcasting, government, international travel, financial services or other areas of international business. Coupled with other expertise acquired in joint or double majors, Spanish majors have opportunities in international marketing, advertising and other communications industries. Some students enter careers with international organizations such as the United Nations, International Red Cross or the World Health Organization, while others go on to advanced degrees in preparation for work in international law, diplomacy and college teaching.

If you are, then the Leadership major is right for you. Leadership majors accept the challenge of management in an increasingly complex, global and fast-paced world. With strong backgrounds in communication, business, creativity, policy, decision-making, innovation, strategic planning and project management, our graduates are prepared to lead change that improves the lives of individuals and provides vision for the future growth and well-being of public, private, government, nonprofit and community organizations.

Psychology is the study of the basic processes of the mind and the brain, and the behavior they produce. Because psychology is a hub science, the scientific contributions of psychological research apply many other fields such as law, medicine and engineering. Our undergraduates learn about basic principles of human and animal behavior, the scientific methods used to derive and refine those principles and appropriate ways to apply such knowledge. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of psychology, our major prepares students with transferrable skills applicable to a wide variety of careers.

Health Behavior Science is the study of how individual (e.g., race, age, disability, knowledge), social (e.g., peer-groups), and environmental (e.g., access to parks, worksite wellness programs) factors shape our health and well-being across the lifespan. We work to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce the burden of disease through the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs to change specific health behaviors for individuals and/or target populations. Students are also required to complete a minor in an approved area of expertise or complete the Health and Disability concentration to provide additional focused skills that enhance their job competitiveness. Students pursuing this major are well prepared for careers in health promotion and education, community health, worksite wellness, health coaching, personal training, and advanced graduate programs including health promotion/public health, physical/occupational therapy, physician assistant, and accelerated nursing programs. The program culminates with an internship experience that enhances the school to work transition.

There is a global need for professionals trained to provide critical social services to children, adults and families from diverse backgrounds—counseling, educating, coordinating and advocating for people.

Human Services (HS) majors develop the skills necessary to make a difference in the lives of children, adolescents, adults and families. Choosing from one of four concentrations, students can prepare to work in a variety of settings including non-profit organizations, schools, hospitals, community programs, legal aid and advocacy organizations, where they can have a positive impact in fields such as youth development, disabilities, race relations, juvenile justice, substance abuse prevention and domestic violence prevention.

We offer an interdisciplinary major with the same name as our college. There has never been a more immediate and pressing need for agriculture and natural resource professionals than now. The field of agriculture and natural resources needs generalists to educate others, and address real-world problems of feeding the world and protecting the planet. With a working farm right on main campus, students have unparalleled access to a 350-acre classroom, where they gain practical experience by actively testing their knowledge in real-world settings. Students regularly engage with faculty from each of the college’s departments for hands-on experiences, research opportunities and connections to communities.

From heart-rate monitors and refrigerators to laptops and mobile phones, computerized gadgets are everywhere. More and more of these gadgets are communicating and coordinating through networks to massive cloud computing centers that are distributed around the world.

Not only do computer engineers design computers and digital equipment, but they also design software that runs on the computers and develop algorithms that are implemented by the software.

Today’s computer engineers brought us the internet in our connected world. How will you change the future as a computer engineer?

UD electrical and computer engineering graduates pursue exciting, rewarding, and successful careers. On average, 70–80% of graduates with a Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree choose employment in private industry, government laboratories and agencies, and non-profit research centers. Approximately 15–20% of computer engineering graduates choose to continue their education toward a master’s or Ph.D. degree, and some graduates will opt to attend medical, law, or business school. Students who earn advanced degrees in engineering usually pursue a career in advanced research in industry or academia.
