The ANSC: dairy management option is designed to provide students with solid training in areas important to the successful management of a dairy enterprise, for employment in related agribusinesses (e.g., pharmaceutical and feed industries), or for those wishing to pursue additional training leading to the M.S. or Ph.D. degree in dairy science or its related disciplines. Dairy management students receive training in areas such as nutrition, reproduction, diseases, genetics, lactation physiology, forages, agribusiness finance, personnel management, computer science, and public relations. The Fairchild Dairy Teaching and Research Center and the Burley-DeMerritt Organic Dairy Research Farm are modern dairy facilities. The Fairchild Dairy houses 85 lactating Holstein cows plus a similar number of non-lactating animals. The Burley-DeMerritt Farm houses 50 lactating Jersey cows plus a small number of non-lactating animals. Students in the Professional and Technical Communications program study to become accomplished digital-age communicators. You'll develop transferable skill-sets in oral and written communication that prepare you to excel in any professional environment. In addition, you'll learn to communicate and collaborate in specializations of your choice — including, among others, new media journalism, creative nonfiction, business writing, legal writing and research, and technical writing.

For students aspiring to become a registered dietitian nutritionist, our master’s degree with dietetic internship (MSDI) will prepare you for work in areas such as clinical nutrition, food service management and community nutrition services. You’ll learn how to evaluate the nutritional status of patients, develop nutrition care plans, assess the impact of nutrition intervention on patient health, and provide nutrition education to individuals and groups. You’ll also learn about the management of food production and delivery systems, as well as the broad food system environments in which dietitians work.Upon completion of this 21-month program, you’ll be eligible to take the dietetic registration examination to practice as a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN).

The justice studies Master of Arts degree program offers you a challenging and hands-on environment to prepare for your dream career advancing justice. You will develop in three areas: philosophical and theoretical understandings of justice, knowledge of the inner-workings and realities of laws and justice systems, and skills related to the implementation of justice. Pursuing a master’s in justice studies allows you to delve deeply into law, crime, courts, corrections, policing, drugs, terrorism, homeland security, immigration, forensics, sexual violence, juvenile justice and more. The German major is offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. This program is of interest to the following groups of students:

• Those who have a special interest in the German language, literature and culture.
• Those who intend to enter fields in which a background in foreign languages and cultures is desirable, such as business, engineering, the sciences, law, international affairs, government service and international service.
• Those who plan to teach German in secondary schools. Since most secondary schools require their teachers to teach more than one subject, students planning to enter teaching at this level should plan their programs carefully. They should combine a major in one culture and language with a minor or at least a meaningful sequence of courses in another subject. Dual majors also are possible. All German majors are strongly encouraged to double major or include a relevant minor in their studies.

The Master of Science for Teachers program in Mathematics is designed to enable teachers to:

• Deepen and broaden their mathematics background in core areas of geometry, algebra, and analysis
• Explore new content areas of mathematics
• Interact with supportive faculty and students in small classes
• Share ideas and teaching approaches with teachers from different areas of the country and of the world
• Consider perspectives which allow them to help their own students learn mathematics more effectively
• Participate in workshops and seminars to extend their knowledge of mathematics and to promote innovative teaching

The program features a strong emphasis on mathematics content, while also providing opportunities for teachers to consider alternative approaches to pedagogy. The program is typically completed in three summers and is designed primarily for experienced teachers of secondary school mathematics.

Majoring in sociology provides a solid, multifaceted foundation in the liberal arts, including analytical thinking and writing, and skills in collecting and analyzing data. Students learn diverse theoretical approaches to the social world and acquire tools for conducting and understanding social science research. The wide range of substantive areas taught in the UNH Department of Sociology include courses concentrating on family and work; environmental sociology; social policy; inequalities of race, class and gender; criminology, social control and deviant behavior; medical sociology; and religion.

Undergraduate training in sociology is an excellent background for a variety of careers, including the business world, where majors might work in marketing and sales or human resources; government and nonprofit services, where majors might work in education, health services, social welfare or criminal justice; and research. An undergraduate degree in sociology is also excellent preparation for graduate work in law, social work, criminal justice, counseling, public administration, public health, business administration, urban planning or further studies in sociology.

We offer degrees to qualified students interested in interdisciplinary research with an emphasis on the synthesis, characterization and utilization of nanoscale materials.  All MSP students learn about the interplay of structure, processing, characterization, and properties of materials with useful applications. Our seventeen faculty members are active collaborators with research and development groups located around the world, and are experienced in managing research projects with practical results. Graduates of our program work in research, engineering and process development positions in a variety of fields.

A Bachelor of Science in business administration will help you build the skills, knowledge and experience to land a job and thrive in today’s evolving economy. Graduates are in demand in a variety of industries including accounting, finance, information systems and business analytics, management and marketing. Whether you aspire to work for a high-powered firm, start-up or non-profit or launch your own business, a business administration degree opens the doors to many career opportunities.

The business administration major take foundation courses in their freshman and sophomore years that cover the fundamental theories, principles, concepts and skill sets in key areas of business, while building upon their social, analytical, competitive and professional intelligence. These foundation courses prepare you to move into a variety of fields and companies. You also must declare an option within your major during the second semester of your sophomore year that provides deeper expertise in a specific business area to propel you on your career path. Many students choose more than one! Options within the major include: accounting, entrepreneurial studies, finance, information systems and business analytics, international business and economics, management, marketing, and student designed.

Computer science focuses on problem solving with a particular emphasis on the design of computer-efficient solutions. Within a few years of obtaining a bachelor's degree alumni will have:

• Engaged in successful careers in diverse areas of software development and will be pursuing advanced education in computer science or related fields;
• Applied the full range of core computer science concepts and techniques to fill software development needs of an organization;
• Adapted to changing directions of computing technology and used state-of-the-art techniques to confront new problems effectively;
• Navigated the complex interconnections between software and the goals and constraints of the organization served;
• Participated responsibly in the pervasive and changing role of computing technology in global society as both software engineers and citizens;
• Operated collaboratively in a team environment and assumed leadership roles.
