Women's and Gender Studies is a discipline that critically examines gender and women's issues from an interdisciplinary perspective and challenges many traditional assumptions and theories. It examines the practice and expression of gender in different societies and at different historical moments.

Regardless of your gender, Women's and Gender Studies is crucial and relevant for anyone interested in working in criminal justice, social work, the non-profit sector, the arts, politics, business, and more. Students learn to look at the world and history through different perspectives and think about how gender and our perceptions of it impact culture, society, and daily interactions. It is a traditional liberal arts discipline where the knowledge and skills developed in the program can be applied to all types of career paths. Work experiences during college through internships, part-time jobs, and volunteer positions often shape career paths after graduation.

Computer science is the study and design of computer systems, networks, software, and computing techniques. But more importantly, it is a dynamic field with a growing impact on the world today. A report on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce forecasts 51% of STEM occupations will be computer occupations by 2018.

This undergraduate degree offers students a concentrated studio art experience to complement a broad exposure to the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. Bachelor of Arts (Art) students have four course tracks to choose from: Studio Arts, Design Studies, Community Arts, and Digital Fabrication and Design.

In the BFA: Guitar program students choose a primary style among classical, jazz, and finger-style guitar. Guitar majors take classes in guitar-related courses like repertoire, ensemble, pedagogy, and guitar history.

The MS-Taxation concentration prepares students to provide expert guidance on tax matters to business organizations and individuals. In this highly specialized curriculum, students develop technical competence in current tax laws, the ability to evaluate tax consequences of business and investment decisions, and understanding of the impact of tax policy on the economy and specific industries.

This concentration is designed for the person possessing creative talent in acquiring and utilizing the techniques and craft of musical composition through theory, literature and analysis.  We foster development in instrumental, vocal, and electro-acoustic composition, with an emphasis on contemporary and experimental techniques. Interested students should preferably have experience in computer notation, midi applications, theory, literature, and analysis pedagogic areas.

Applicant must submit a portfolio of original compositions which could include CD/DVD/computer software files/midi programs in addition to at least one excerpt and one complete composition in conventional notation or analytical research paper(s) or presentations submitted or presented in a regional or national theory society organization, computer assisted analysis or presentation in such areas as Schenkerian analysis or Spectromorphology in acoustic, electronic or acoustic theory.

Majoring in English provides students with a wealth of intellectual and practical learning, a foundation to future success. In today's high-technology, interconnected world, the ability to read carefully, think imaginatively, understand others, and communicate across all types of platforms and formats is essential.

Students in the English major at UWM get to choose a track and focus their studies on an area of particular interest:

• Literature and Cultural Theory - where the reading and analysis of literature is emphasized.
• Rhetoric and Writing - a broad field that includes writing for different genres.
• Creative Writing - ideal for students who love fiction and poetry.
• Professional and Technical Writing -  with an emphasis on business documentation.
• Media, Cinema, and Digital Studies - includes the many forms of communicating through media such as film, tv, games, and the web.

The STEM-Designated MS in Management - Finance Analysis concentration includes extensive study of financial markets to prepare students for professional careers in corporate and investment finance. The curriculum includes an examination of capital markets, investment banking, financial institutions, corporate financial control, securities valuation techniques, capital budgeting, portfolio strategies, hedging and arbitrage, and international fund management.

The program provides students with foundational training in accounting and statistical analysis and in-depth finance skill sets necessary to understand and meet the growing needs of financial industries and prepares students for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exams.

Supply Chain and Operations Management (SCOM) examines the key business processes that take place from "step one" through delivery to the customer. Supply chain management is the integration of all key business processes from original suppliers through end users and provides products, services, and information that add value for customers and other stakeholders. It includes the supply, storage, and movement of materials, information, personnel, equipment, and finished goods within the organization and between the organization and its environment.

The operations function, within the supply chain, relates to the creation of goods and services through efficient and effective use of personnel, material, and machines and includes acquisition of resources, planning of production and inventory levels, scheduling of work assignments, and the control of production and quality. Recent concepts in supply chain and operations management include lean operations, Six Sigma, ERP, and mass customization.

Technology is one of the most important facets in supply chain, and the Lubar program emphasizes information technology management, including enterprise resource planning. Other important components include product development, lean operations, Six Sigma, and mass customization.

Companies in all sectors of the economy - public and private, manufacturing service, health care, retail and others - recruit SCOM graduates to help them identify competitive issues in the supply chain and develop innovative solutions.

In addition to serving as the official language of Italy, Italian is common in 29 countries, such as Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, North Africa, Brazil, Canada, and the United States.

Learning Italian serves as a gateway to a wide variety of career opportunities, in finance, marketing, journalism, translation, and computer programming. Italy is also a leader in the fields of air and water quality control, transportation technology, food and beverage fields, robotics, interior design and fashion.

The courses in the Italian Program are designed to help students become fluent in both the language and culture of Italy. On the very first day of class, students begin speaking Italian, and gain valuable communication skills as they progress through the Intermediate and advanced courses. Students may choose from an array of Italian courses on various topics that enable them to understand key turning points in Italian history, society and politics, cultural trends, and movements in such arts as film and literature. Italian courses contribute to such programs as Global Studies and the certificate program in Food Studies.
