The MA in Language, Literature, and Translation (MALLT) is an interdisciplinary MA degree program focused on global languages, literatures and translation. With over 50 faculty from five different departments, MALLT offers a flexible program of study tailored to your professional goals. Three departments—French, Italian and Comparative Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature and Translation & Interpreting Studies cooperate in offering this interdepartmental, interdisciplinary master’s program designed for the student who wishes to focus on language, literature, and translation on a cross-cultural basis.

Being bilingual is not enough to be a successful translator. Professional translators must be experts in both source and target cultures, skilled readers of the source language and superb writers of the target language. In addition, they need expertise in an area of specialization and a solid grasp of the language-services industry.

Our Translation & Interpreting Studies programs are housed in an accredited, Tier 1 Research institution and offer professional translator and interpreter training in a dynamic environment. Students collaborate with faculty and classmates from around the world to develop the skills they need to succeed in a thriving international market. Learn how to translate and/or interpret, and how to be a language professional through using leading industry computer-assisted translation tools and completing internships that often lead to employment. The Master of Science in Engineering program is a flexible program designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of students. The program can be a stepping-stone on the way to further studies and the pursuit of advanced research, such as can be obtained by pursuing the PhD. Or the program can provide a pathway to professional advancement through greater technical knowledge and intellectual maturity. The student, with the help and approval of a major advisor, can choose from a wide range of courses from throughout the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS), and where appropriate, from other schools and colleges.

The Helen Bader School of Social Welfare (HBSSW) offers a program of graduate studies in social work. As a department in an urban research university, the mission of the Department of Social Work is to promote positive change through social work research, scholarship, education, and community partnerships. The Department promotes the values of the social work profession through a commitment to social justice and diversity, a dedication to public service, and an emphasis on individual and community well-being. The goal of the MSW program is to prepare graduates with specialized knowledge and skills for advanced practice and leadership with diverse populations and communities.

Accountants gather, organize and analyze financial information. Advancements in technology, evolving accounting rules and regulations, and rapid globalization promise abundant and interesting career opportunities to those with strong quantitative abilities. In response to the rapidly changing environment, this degree is tailored to develop supplemental skills in Information Technology and analyzing data.

Accounting-Data Analysis graduates seek employment in a variety of positions in public accounting firms, industry, and not-for-profits. For public accounting firms, these graduates may find employment in either the traditional assurance track or the more IT-oriented risk advisory track. In either case, these graduates will analyze large, client-prepared datasets to accomplish audit objectives for their assigned audit team. In an industry employment position, the graduates will work as part of the management team providing information for decision support, taxation issues and performance evaluation. In the not-for-profit sector, the graduates will also analyze data to assist their organizations in decision support and performance evaluation. This accounting track specifically develops skills in Information Technology to enable graduates to utilize data analysis and visualization in these tasks.

The BA in Animation will prepare graduates to secure positions as animators and multimedia artists in the moving image production industry.

Graduates of this program will be able to:
1. Apply knowledge of artistic principles, conventions, methods, and practices through the creation and production of animated works of art;
2. Utilize the core concepts, capabilities, and tools of animation technology;
3. Apply critical and creative thinking skills in a variety of contexts;
4. Identify ways in which animation can be utilized in both creative and practical contexts;
5. Assure high quality production values in the work that they create; and
6. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, produce projects individually and collaboratively, engage fully in the entire production process, from concept to distribution.

Our program focuses on instilling in every student the practical, hands-on knowledge of materials and fabrication techniques necessary to cross boundaries, invent processes, and explore innovative content in the areas of object-making, installation, performance, site-work, time-based art, and digital forms.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers graduate programs of study in mathematics with specializations in the fields of algebra, analysis, topology, applied mathematics, probability and statistics, actuarial science, industrial mathematics, and atmospheric science.

The programs of study at the master’s level are designed to suit both the student intending to continue toward a PhD as well as the student who wishes to begin a professional career upon completion of the master’s program.

The student may prepare for a career in teaching at the secondary or college level and for a career in research in the academic, industrial, government, or business communities.

Information science, on which the Information Science and Technology program is based, is the study of the organization, storage, retrieval, dissemination, and use of information. Information technology (IT) is the collection of tools that make it possible to access and use information. Some graduates will go directly into jobs in business and industry sectors that rely heavily on information as a raw material or as a product. Other graduates may go on to graduate study in library and information science, information management, computer science, or telecommunications.

Students at UWM can focus their conservation and environmental science work around land resources, water resources, biological resources/biodiversity, or environmental analysis. Internships and field work complement classroom learning. These opportunities can be found locally at UWM's own Field Station, on Lake Michigan aboard UWM's R/V Neeskay vessel, and at local agencies, or abroad in places as far flung as Iceland, Africa, Romania and the Caribbean.
