Our program emphasizes a conceptual fine art practice through the production of darkroom, digital, and hybrid work. Courses integrate socially situated projects with an understanding of both contemporary and historical visual culture by developing a vocabulary for effective communication within the photographic medium.

The Department of Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies (JAMS) teaches students about the role of media in culture and society and offers hands-on experience in journalism and advertising/public relations. The JAMS major blends liberal arts education in media studies with professional training for work in media fields.

The study of Philosophy can be challenging because it asks students to critically examine very fundamental questions about what it means to be human - behavior, values, ethics, logic, aesthetics. Some describe it as "thinking in slow motion" because of the way it explores in depth the human experience.

Students choose philosophy because it instills a lifelong love and quest for knowledge, it imparts a disciplined and systematic way of thinking, and it enhances critical and analytical capacities. Most graduates of philosophy describe the great personal reward that comes from exploring the great thinkers of the past in the context of modern issues. But, they also passionately value the career skills that they developed - how to read and comprehend difficult text; how to understand different interpretations of information and assess opposing viewpoints; how to craft a clear and logical position on an issue in writing and orally; and how to make connections between smaller, seemingly disparate details and the big picture.

Mechanical engineering is one of the most general engineering fields. The engineer has the freedom to deal with virtually any aspect of the multi-faceted engineering process such as design, development, analysis, production and testing. The broad nature of the field also provides opportunities to work in various areas of interest ranging from energy conversion or environmental control to the production of transportation and construction equipment.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers graduate programs of study in mathematics with specializations in the fields of algebra, analysis, topology, applied mathematics, probability and statistics, actuarial science, industrial mathematics, and atmospheric science.

The programs of study at the master’s level are designed to suit both the student intending to continue toward a PhD as well as the student who wishes to begin a professional career upon completion of the master’s program.

The student may prepare for a career in teaching at the secondary or college level and for a career in research in the academic, industrial, government, or business communities.

Foundations of Advanced Studies
This option is designed to prepare students for advanced-level graduate programs. It is structured so that students with basic preparation from their undergraduate institutions can complete the option in no more than two years. Some students with a higher level of preparation may transfer up to 12 graduate credits from the courses they completed previously; such students may advance more quickly through the program and complete the degree in only one year.

Transportation Engineering
Transportation Engineering is the application of technology and scientific principles to the planning, functional design, operation and management of facilities for any mode of transportation. The goal is to provide for the safe, efficient, rapid, comfortable, convenient, economical, and environmentally compatible movement of people and goods.

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology offers a Crime Analytics Concentration at the master’s level. A sequence of courses will lead to a concentration in this growing area. Preparation includes a foundation in criminal justice, research methods, and criminological theory. It also includes specialized coursework in measuring crime, crime mapping, and analytic techniques for understanding crime and crime patterns. At the conclusion of the program, students will complete a crime analytics project to demonstrate their mastery of crime analytics.
