The Theatre Studies program combines studies in theatrical subjects with broad preparation in the liberal arts to prepare students for a wide range of careers. Graduates have gone on to pursue careers in professional theatre, education, public service, and countless other fields. Because of the focused curriculum, the Theatre Studies program allows the student to take a second major or to pursue minor concentrations in two or three other academic areas.

Due to the strength of Wright State’s theatre production program, the Theatre Studies student can acquire a high level of both practical and theoretical knowledge and experience, a distinction not afforded theatre students in programs with less extensive production emphases.

Theatre Studies students are encouraged to diversify their education in a variety of disciplines. The major in Theatre Studies is generally considered to be preparation for further study at the graduate level.

During your study of how cultural, historical, political, and economic forces affect international relations, you will gain a greater understanding of yourself and others. The major fosters civic engagement and social responsibility and promotes learning and scholarship while serving the community at the local, state, national, and international levels by preparing you to be an informed global citizen.

A degree in international studies has helped our graduates land jobs with the U.S. government, with international organizations such as the United Nations, and with nongovernmental organizations like Doctors Without Borders, just to name a few

Students graduating with the B.A. in international studies will be able to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the value of diversity and multicultural competence in today's global environment.
• Communicate effectively in writing.
• Speak and write proficiently in a foreign language.

Exit interviews with graduating seniors and alumni surveys indicate very high levels of satisfaction with the major. Most of the courses for the IS major are small (between 15 and 30 students) and many are taught seminar style, featuring discussion, collaboration, and research papers. Respondents say they appreciated the diversity of courses to choose from and gave high scores to their professors’ teaching. In a recent survey, every respondent agreed the coursework they took for their IS degree not only provided them with marketable, transferable skills, it enhanced their ability to understand world affairs and their understanding of other cultures. In exit interviews, 100 percent expressed satisfaction with the program overall and 100 percent reported that they felt prepared to obtain acceptance to a graduate or professional school.

The Bachelor of Science curriculum offers a broad, integrated, and in-depth approach to the life sciences. Departmental requirements consist of a balanced core of courses selected from several subject areas, combined with elective courses from the Department of Biological Sciences and other life science departments such as Neuroscience, Cell Biology and Physiology, and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. This degree program can accommodate students with such differing interests and objectives as graduate work in molecular biology, laboratory work in microbiology, or field work in ecology. The B.S. degree also can serve as preprofessional preparation for programs such as medical, dental, or veterinary sciences, or for education licensure.

Biological Sciences Program Learning Objectives

• Students completing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences will be able to:
• Demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge of essential concepts of biology at molecular, organismal, and ecosystem scales.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge of concepts in chemistry and physics necessary to understand the foundations of biology.
• Utilize mathematics and statistics to apply quantitative reasoning to biological concepts.
• Evaluate data using quantitative analysis and graphical representation.
• Apply observational strategies, formulate testable hypotheses, and design experiments with appropriate controls and variables.
• Exhibit problem solving skills and trouble-shoot procedures.

Our undergraduate program offers a rigorous, challenging, and intellectually stimulating experience. You will simultaneously explore a subject you love while developing the kinds of universal skills employers seek—written and spoken communication, analytical and problem solving skills, and research experience. This prepares you for a wide variety of careers. Our graduates have gone on to start their own businesses, work in small and large corporations, pursue advanced professional training in the law, receive a commission as an officer in the United States armed forces, and serve the public in local, state, and federal agencies.

Industrial and Human Factors Engineering (IHE), a highly customizable degree in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, prepares working professionals towards effective design and operation of a variety of systems in healthcare, manufacturing, aerospace, distribution, retail, and many others. While industrial engineers utilize the tools of simulation, optimization, computing, and statistics to design and improve modern technology-laden systems, human factors engineers design systems that effectively integrate human abilities/limitations and machines/tools.

The mathematics component of the Bachelor of Arts program surveys the classical areas of mathematics—analysis, algebra, and geometry—and their history. Courses in statistics and in computer science provide a taste of two relatively young branches of the mathematical sciences. In addition, a broad choice of electives allows you to either pursue greater depth in one of these areas, or to sample a broader range of courses in mathematics, statistics, and computing.

The Bachelor of Arts program features breadth and flexibility. For instance, there is a Related Course Requirement specifically designed to accommodate subject matter outside the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and even outside both the College of Science and Mathematics and the College of Engineering and Computer Science. A degree in economics provides you with a solid foundation for a career in business, government, or nonprofit sector. Economists are vital in helping predict and study responses to changes in policy and the market and our program boasts a placement rate or nearly 100 percent in occupations requiring a master’s degree. You will study research methods and how social factors influence and shape our economy and apply those analytical skills to working in business, government, and nonprofit sectors.

This program develops professional economists who can solve contemporary problems with a unique skill set created by a curriculum that bridges the gap between research and the application of research. Our curriculum stresses applied research using traditional and nontraditional methods and takes advantage of our faculty’s diverse teaching and research activities. You are encouraged to develop and evaluate new approaches to economic problem solving while building the skills to work in business, government, and nonprofit sectors or continue your education.

If you complete this program, you will graduate with a Master of Science in Social and Applied Economics. This graduate program equips you to solve contemporary economic problems with a unique set of skills created by a curriculum that combines applied economics with social economics. This program bridges the gap between research and the application of research in business, government, and nonprofit sectors. In this program, you will be encouraged to develop and evaluate new approaches to economic problem solving.

In today’s business environment, graduates skilled in creative problem solving and risk taking with the ability to see new opportunities are in high demand. An entrepreneurship degree will help you learn those skills and equip you with the experiences necessary to succeed in a business environment or start your own venture.

If you are eager to learn, customer focused, creative, and have strong technical, planning, and organizational abilities, majoring in entrepreneurship can benefit you in nearly any career field or industry.

Program Outcomes
If you complete this program, you will graduate with a Bachelor in Business with a major in entrepreneurship. This multidisciplinary program’s courses focus on starting, financing, commercializing, and managing a new business. Students learn to evaluate and plan new business opportunities, research and write comprehensive business plans, and learn additional skills in market analysis, problem solving, return on investment principles, team building, and planning.

Help design your own degree program—one broad in scope, narrow in concentration, and flexible enough to draw courses from all of the departments and programs in the College of Liberal Arts. The liberal studies degree is ideal if your interests encompass more than one liberal arts field and you desire greater flexibility in your program.
