The computer science program at Yeshiva College provides students with the theoretical foundations and practical skills required for long term success in industry and in graduate school.

Students who study in the Yeshiva College English Department gain direct, intimate access to other cultures and time periods, through encounters with works from classical Greece, medieval Europe, and Victorian Britain to U.S. and world literature of the present. At the same time, students develop both analytically and creatively as writers and thinkers, learning to express themselves with clarity and power. In engaging us with a range of forms — poetry, fiction, nonfiction, drama, film, as well as the genres of the Internet age — English courses enlarge our vision of the complexity and richness of human achievements and how we might contribute to them ourselves.

The study of economics helps students develop analytical tools to understand how modern economies allocate scarce resources to produce goods and services and how economic performance is affected by policies, technology, and institutions. It also provides students with a rigorous way of thinking about individual, business, and household decision-making.

This track of the Economics major provides ideal training for those interested in law, business, journalism, or public policy.

Like travelers in foreign lands, students of history come face to face with the diversity of the human condition. They undergo the unsettling - but salutary - experience of nonrecognition, and so arrive at an understanding that peoples in the past were other, that “then” was different from “now,” “there” different from “here.”

Enriched by that understanding, they are able to view their own time and place in a new light, as the outcome of local and contingent circumstances rather than as the inevitable product of human nature.

No other discipline in the humanities and the social sciences covers so wide a range of topics as history. Instead of studying just one or another segment of human activity - e.g. politics, economics, literature, art, philosophy, etc. - history integrates all of them. Located at the intersection of multiple disciplines, it is of crucial importance to all students of the humanities and the social sciences.

Psychology is the science of behavior and mental processes. Many psychologists use scientific methods to study behavior, while others are professional practitioners who use psychological knowledge and technology to help solve individual and social problems. General areas of psychology include learning and memory, sensory systems and perception, and thought and language. Applied fields include clinical psychology, counseling, industrial/organizational psychology and school psychology. Graduates can pursue careers in psychology or in allied fields including medicine, dentistry, law, social work and education.

Designed to meet the changing needs of health care and social services, our MA in Mental Health Counseling prepares students to test to become Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMCH) from the New York State Education Department. At Yeshiva College, Bible is a multidimensional discipline. It begins with an effort to understand the Bible in its historical context, as illuminated by the history of the Ancient Near East and its linguistic and physical culture. It continues with the study of the Bible as it has been read and interpreted throughout Jewish history, from second temple texts to the rabbis of the Talmud to the classical medieval commentators, down to the present. The Yeshiva College Bible faculty, immersed in traditional approaches and trained in contemporary scholarship, brings these mutually enriching aspects of the study of Tanakh together in a fashion rarely available elsewhere.
