The Master of Photography enables socially-engaged photographers to lead developments in the technological, cultural, environmental and political role of photography today.

Utilising a dynamic studio-based learning and independent project environment, this degree encourages you to experiment and take creative risks before mastering your own process and craft.

You will develop skills and knowledge through a combination of practice-led research and professional development opportunities. You will establish and define your photography practice to be industry ready for presentation, publication or for commercial markets. The capstone experience of this degree is a major photographic project that is publicly presented for critical review.

The Master of Photography is designed to challenge you to apply and analyse photographic theory, mediate the relationship between technology and image making, and foster new approaches to writing, practicing, and exhibiting photography.

With the Master of Communication Design you will develop expertise in communication design practice, and focus on design entrepreneurship and strategic design thinking.

Push your creative boundaries and think critically to find design solutions to communication challenges.
Develop expert knowledge and specialised technical and creative skills to prepare for professional roles in multidisciplinary environments, including communication design studios, digital design consultancies, advertising agencies, design teams within other organisations, and in independent practices. You will be able to work independently or in teams, and you will be able to communicate confidently with other design professionals and clients.

The Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (Directing) is delivered as part of a sequence, beginning with the Diploma of Screen and Media (Content Creation).

Upon satisfactory completion of the diploma you will be eligible to progress to the advanced diploma.

This advanced diploma gives you the broad base necessary to move ahead in the art, design, screen and media industries. We live in a data-driven world. Huge volumes of information are generated at ever-increasing rates via social media, financial transactions, transportation, and scientific discovery, and the skills to understand this data have become a top priority.

The new interdisciplinary field of data science combines areas of computer science with mathematical statistics and domain expertise to manage and analyse data. Specialists develop the capability to derive insight and opportunity from the vast repositories of information that organisations collect. Data science also puts an emphasis on the specialised computational skills required to manage and analyse big data from sources such as social media, massive sensors, mobile and transaction data.

Through data science, businesses gain a competitive edge, governments deliver more targeted services, and research teams make new discoveries.

When you study visual arts at RMIT, you'll create a professional folio of work.

This diploma is taught by practicing artists in real studio environments. All our staff are practitioners with national and international reputation in the arts. This enables them to connect you to work on projects with industry, other practicing artists, and galleries.

This diploma offers both practical and theoretical subjects, which have been developed in conjunction with the arts industry. It is designed to prepare you for a career in the visual arts or other related creative fields.

On completion of the first year, you can transition to the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts. This is also a one-year qualification, which allows you to further investigate your creative practice with a more specialised focus.

A major focus is the production of a professional folio of work that reflects your personal creativity. The folio will display a sequential development, with emphasis on the acquisition of skills and the adaptation of those skills to the production of artworks with a sound personal philosophical base.

This diploma has a strong focus on exhibition practice and providing practical experience in the arts industry. You will undertake independent studio practice and develop a wide-range of highly specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills and knowledge.

The Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) (Honours) supports and develops your capacity as a practicing artist and active researcher in the field of contemporary art.

This degree is designed for students who have successfully completed a three-year degree in contemporary art or craft, or an equivalent field, and who wish to undertake a further year of study to focus exclusively on an individual project.

At this level of study, you will engage with high-level intensive subjects, deepening and enriching your practice through expertise, knowledge and criticality.

You will be guided through personalised mentorship and individual supervision, as you are introduced to practice-led research and research methodologies.

A flexible curriculum provides opportunities for you to develop an individual project and to further your knowledge and capability for professional or highly skilled art practice, and/or further learning at a postgraduate level.

The Graduate Diploma in Journalism is designed to enhance your undergraduate qualification with focused study in journalism. This one-year diploma sets you up for a career as a journalist by allowing you to explore all forms of contemporary journalism and put modern practice into its legal, ethical and social context. 

As part of the curriculum, you will present and produce live radio news for community radio station RRR and our live-to-air television news program, Newsline, as well as create text and data reports for our publication The City Journal.

You will work individually with our work placement coordinator to find at least one internship as part of your study.

Upon completing this diploma, you will have developed the skills and knowledge necessary for an entry-level position in journalism and in doing so follow in the footsteps of many of Australia’s award-winning journalists.

In the Diploma of Information Technology you will be guided by experienced teachers with extensive industry experience to develop a project portfolio designed to help launch a career in IT.

As part of your study in a world-class university environment, you will learn how to:

You will learn how to install, operate and troubleshoot medium enterprise routers and switches, design user experience (UX) solutions, build dynamic websites, design and integrate databases, design, build and test network servers, and more. You will also build professional skills including promoting cyber security awareness and best practice, managing client issues, and originating and developing concepts.
