It offers techniques and an analytical basis for understanding and evaluating incentives and decision making by individuals, businesses and governments.  A primary goal of economics is to determine how to improve efficiency and living standards.

 Economics Specialisation

Studying economics will equip you with the analytical tools and critical thinking skills to understand and make an impact on some of our greatest global challenges. The Master of Engineering Science (Transport Engineering) is designed to develop skills in modelling and analysing transport systems, both passenger and freight.

You will gain deep knowledge in the planning, functional design, operation and management of transport infrastructure, with a focus on its economic and environmental impact.

The program will provide you with advanced study options including transport planning, ITS and land use and risk management and safety, through to network design, demand estimation and sustainability, emissions and health.

It aims to meet the real-world need for safe, quick, reliable and efficient transport systems that are becoming ever more important due to global population growth and urban sprawl.

The typical two-year program, sitting within the UNSW School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, comprises open-ended enquiry-based projects as well as many other opportunities to help you become a leader in the field.

You will develop a systematic approach to solving problems, as well as core project planning skills and the ability to analyse, interpret and communicate results proficiently.

Building on UNSW Art & Design’s experience of delivering leading postgraduate education for arts and cultural professionals, the Master of Curating and Cultural Leadership (MCCL) is designed with extensive industry engagement and consultation. With an established and trusted history of producing graduates sought after for their vision, our graduates have secured roles in world-leading cultural institutions such as the Smithsonian, Carriageworks and MAAS.

This degree is for those interested in exploring a wide range of areas across curating and cultural leadership through industry engagement and professional experience with galleries, libraries, archives, museums and other cultural institutions. We deliver our curriculum in close collaboration with our on-campus UNSW Galleries and a broad range of Australian and international creative industries partners. These opportunities allow you to experience integrated, collaborative and diverse industry experiences throughout your postgraduate studies.

This degree provides pathways for both those with backgrounds in museums, galleries, arts organisations, art history and art practice and those who wish to enter curating or cultural leadership from other professional backgrounds.

The Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Media is a four-year double degree that shows you how to enlighten others with creative thinking and persuasive communications. Learn strategies to interest, inform, and inspire others while challenging conventions and designing new solutions to old problems.

 Industrial Design (Major)

When you study Industrial Design at UNSW, you’ll be inspired and challenged to use insightful and strategic product design for the good of people and the planet.

Through practical studio classes and theoretical courses, you’ll explore design thinking and methodologies. With an ethical and sustainable approach, you’ll develop professional design skills in drawing, ideation, making, and prototyping as you learn about manufacturing technology, materials, sustainability, user interaction and more.

As part of our creative Arts, Design & Architecture community, you’ll be encouraged to collaborate across disciplines, gain professional experience, and take advantage of programs that support entrepreneurship and innovation. Through our strong industry links, you’ll be able to gain real-world professional experience and connect with design leaders. As a graduate of Industrial Design, you’ll also be eligible for membership with the Design Institute of Australia (DIA).

Biotechnology takes our understanding of cell biology and chemistry to create a range of products and solutions to problems in medicine, food and energy. The Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) includes fundamental teaching in the life sciences, explores current trends and issues in the industry and tackles key focus areas including synthetic biology, bioprocessing, medical applications and commercialisation. It also incorporates a research-based honours year, providing you with greater experience and confidence in the practice of scientific methods.

• Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities
• At UNSW Science, we focus on delivering the optimal balance of theory and practical work to equip you with the skills and experience to fast-track your career. The SCIF3199 Science Work Placement course gives you the opportunity to gain practical work experience through an internship. Previous work placement students have interned with IT companies, start-ups, government departments and large biomedical and biotechnology companies. Along with new professional skills and connections, you’ll also gain course credit for your work placement.
• Research internship course
• The SCIF2041 Research Internship course gives you the opportunity to complete a short theoretical or experimental research project in a world-leading research team supervised by a member of academic staff. Internships may also involve a placement outside of UNSW, in the form of externally funded research programs.
• Law and industry knowledge
• Along with a thorough understanding of the life sciences, this degree will give you the tools to understand intellectual property law, commercial principles and deep contextual knowledge of the Australian and international biotechnology industries. Engineers work in a range of roles across all different types of industries, from civil engineering to environmental, computer science to petroleum engineering – the possibilities are endless. The type of engineer you’ll become often depends on the specialisation you choose in this degree. This degree offers 19 engineering specialisations across different engineering disciplines.

The UNSW Master of Journalism and Communication is a two-year full-time postgraduate university degree in contemporary journalism, media studies and communications.

The Master of Public Health and Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence is a double degree providing essential knowledge and skills for those pursuing a career in public health with a focus on infectious diseases epidemiology and control. This program enables you to better understand infectious diseases in the era of new and emerging disease threats. You'll also learn sophisticated management approaches for the identification, assessment, prevention and control of infectious diseases.

The Master of Public Health is widely regarded as essential for a career in population health, including health promotion, primary health care, policy formulation, research and management of health programs.
