Public Relations (Major)

Want to make a change to climate change? One of the greatest questions of our times is how to meet environmental challenges head-on. From species extinction and GMOs to climate change and nuclear power – immerse yourself in the social, cultural, and political factors shaping human relations with the natural world.

Environmental Law and Sustainable Development
Environmental protection and the quest for sustainable development that can meet the needs of both present and future generations have become pressing common concerns at the national and the international level. In past decades, national and international law has developed a wide range of sector-specific and creative cross-cutting approaches to respond to these challenges. 

This Master of Laws specialisation will provide you with a strong theoretical and practical understanding of the environmental legal system, the frameworks of and tools for sustainable environmental management, and the complex policy issues presented by the environmental challenges of the 21st century. Environmental law encompasses a wide and diverse range of issues: energy, climate change, biodiversity conservation, water and oceans, agriculture, finance and international development, but also (and especially in Australia, as one of the world’s most urban nations) issues like city planning, commons, platform and sharing economies, transport, housing and corporate social responsibility. 

You'll acquire the skills and understanding needed to address the ‘wicked problems’ posed by environmental sustainability challenges and be equipped to pursue a career in environmental law and environmental policy. The specialisation draws on UNSW Law & Justice academics and visitors nationally and internationally recognised as experts in the field.

Environmental engineers focus on the impact on the natural world by engineering activities. They combine their broad knowledge of engineering and environmental processes in identifying environmental problems and then developing effective solutions. They also coordinate the activities of various specialist groups such as biologists, ecologists and geologists within major projects.

Environmental Engineering embraces parts of Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on management, system design, water, geotechnical and transport engineering. It also covers aspects of Chemical Engineering, applied and biological sciences, and environmental studies. To get you work ready, you'll apply these skills through 60 days of approved industry training.

This degree intertwines mechanical engineering, control engineering and software development, specifically for controlling sophisticated smart machines.

Mechatronic engineers work across all aspects of smart machines – from design and testing through to manufacture in industries such as robotics, medical and assistive technology, human-machine interaction, manufacturing, unmanned aerial and ground vehicles and education.

Through your study at UNSW Engineering, you’ll develop hybrid skills in mechanics, electronics and computing. Our students come to understand the conception, design, construction, maintenance, integration and repair of smart machines. These machines include robots, white goods, cameras, automated test equipment and transport vehicles.

This bachelor’s degree will build your knowledge in areas including building services, computer-controlled plant, manufacturing, robotics and autonomous vehicles. We emphasize the application of engineering science, development and management in these fields. We’ll balance the theory and knowledge development with your hands-on application of skills learned in your degree. Manufacturing engineers develop products, as well as the machines that create them. Mechanical and manufacturing engineers apply scientific and engineering knowledge to the development, manufacture and distribution of all types of products. They research, design, build, test, maintain and improve almost everything, from power plants and renewable energy systems to robots and cars.

In this degree, you’ll learn how to transform a design from a conceptual stage into a prototype and finally into a commercially viable product. You’ll integrate the knowledge gained from this degree into a framework and process that allows you to implement your designs, solutions and ideas in a commercial environment.

The final year courses are based on global industry best practice in manufacturing and industrial engineering. You’ll study across the following subjects:
