The UNSW Master of Engineering Science in Petroleum Engineering is a two-year postgraduate degree in the School of Minerals and Energy Resource Engineering. You’ll gain the accreditation for a career in petroleum engineering, the oil and gas industry and other related sectors.  

You’ll explore a broad range of areas related to employment in petroleum engineering including:

•     Drilling engineering
•     Fluid mechanics

If you come from a general engineering background and want to transition into a specialised role, the petroleum engineering specialisation will help you get there. The degree is also designed for anyone working in the industry and wanting to deepen their knowledge and experience.

Do you currently work in the underground hard rock or coal mining industry, in the field of strata control? Or is this an area you'd like to progress into? The Master of Mine Geotechnical Engineering is the postgraduate degree for you.

You'll receive a foundational education in fundamental principles of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering, as well as practical strata control applications. This degree teaches you practical knowledge to become a mine strata control engineer.

This degree is designed for professionals working at mine sites and are offered in a flexible delivery format; many are available in distance mode with a limited number of face-to-face workshops/sessions. Assessments include practical site-based assignments, group work, interactive work and presentations.

Note: Some electives may be offered only every two years and international students are not eligible to enrol on a student visa

Finance (Major)
Finance informs large-scale decisions for people at all levels. Skills and knowledge in finance provide value for those working in the financial services industry, including banking, brokerage and investment management, and just general business.

Skills and expertise in finance give you the ability to creatively problem solve, create wealth and apply those skills broadly across a broad range of industries. Your analytical and finance skills will put you in demand and set you up for success in a diverse range of careers in finance in Australia and across the globe whether you’re a domestic or international student.

You have the option to study full-time or part-time depending on where you are at in your career so your study can fit in with your life and your professional aspirations. There are 18 finance degrees to choose from as well as a range of double degrees and degrees which offer finance as an area of specialisation.

This double degree is for students who want to pursue a career in the related disciplines of materials engineering and chemical engineering. Where materials scientists concern themselves mainly with the underlying science of high-performance materials such as metals, ceramics, polymers and composites, chemical engineers focus on turning raw materials into useful, marketable products from fertilisers, drugs and plastics, to paper, paint and food. By studying both degrees, you will learn foundational theory and practical skills that will put you at the forefront of development and innovation.

The Master of Professional Accounting is suitable for graduates with little to no background studying accounting. You'll gain an excellent foundation in business with a strong accounting focus and learn accounting principles, their applications and other relevant knowledge in economics, finance, information systems and law.

The skills and knowledge you gain through this degree will provide you with the tools to pursue a sucessful career in accounting.

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities
At UNSW Science, we focus on delivering the optimal balance of theory and practical work to equip you with the skills and experience to fast-track your career. The SCIF3199 Science Work Placement course gives you the opportunity to gain practical work experience through an internship. Previous work placement students have interned with IT companies, start-ups, government departments and large biomedical and biotechnology companies. Along with new professional skills and connections, you’ll also gain course credit for your work placement.
Research internship course
The SCIF2041 Research Internship course gives you the opportunity to complete a short theoretical or experimental research project in a world-leading research team supervised by a member of academic staff. Internships may also involve a placement outside of UNSW, in the form of externally funded research programs.

When you study a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce you’ll graduate with two separate yet complimentary degrees that will allow you to drive your career further. Combine business problem solving with engineering discoveries to deliver better solutions to society.
