Computational Design (Major)

When you study Computational Design at UNSW, you’ll learn to approach challenges differently through design-thinking. You’ll gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies, including 3D modelling, digital geometry and parametric design, responsive environments, AR and VR, and robotic and digital fabrication using 3D printers and laser cutters.

Through design thinking and computational design theory, you’ll hone critical-thinking and communication skills to create inclusive designs for diverse contexts. As part of our supportive Arts, Design & Architecture community, you’ll be encouraged to collaborate across disciplines, gain professional experience, and take advantage of programs that support entrepreneurship and innovation. You’ll have the opportunity to work on real-life projects set by UNSW’s partners in the built-environment, architecture and design industries such as Cox, Arup, Hassell, BVN, Bates Smart, PTW Architects, Grimshaw, Mott McDonald, and Aurecon.

UNSW’s Bachelor of Commerce/Arts is a double degree that will equip you with business experience and expertise, combined with the creativity, analytical and critical thinking skills that come with an arts degree. Both degrees offer flexibility, allowing you to shape your degree to match your ambitions and interests.

The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) has been designed with consultation from industry to set you up for lifelong employability. By combining your BCom with a Bachelor of Arts, you can choose from a diverse range of majors and subjects in the arts, humanities and social sciences. You'll develop an in-depth knowledge and breadth of understanding, gaining the tools to think critically, communicate effectively and conduct independent research.

Mining Engineering studies the safe, economic and environmentally responsible recovery, processing, marketing and financial management of mineral resources. Mining Engineering is about the extraction of natural minerals from the earth and the processing of those minerals into more user-friendly forms with minimal environmental impact.

At UNSW, we focus on the long-term health of the sector through research in Sustainable Mining Practices. Our school produces internationally acclaimed research, working closely with industry to provide innovative solutions. This research feeds directly into our degrees to maintain the Australian mining industry’s comparative advantage of cost-competitive, safe and environmentally responsible operations.

This degree provides a comprehensive understanding of how complex mining systems work together to service the global need for minerals. It will give you a solid foundation in fundamental engineering principles and essential elements of mining, like geomechanics, ventilation, mine planning and mineral processing. To get you work ready, you'll apply these skills through 60 days of approved industry training.

Media Studies (Major)

This innovative degree extends the Civil Engineering Bachelor degree by including courses in Architecture from the School of Built Environment. Civil engineers create and manage the infrastructure of our built environment, including bridges, roads and highways, tunnels, dams, ports and harbours, railways, water supply and sewerage schemes, irrigation systems and many other structures.

The degree will lead to a professionally accredited Engineering qualification with a foundation in architectural principles and an understanding of both the architect's role in structural design and the connection between architects and engineers. This program offers a unique human-centric and design-led approach to technologies and focuses on human perception and experience. You’ll learn how, why, when and where to effectively utilise simulation and immersive platforms, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and extended reality (XR). Throughout the degree, you’ll engage with the latest technologies first-hand as you learn through real industry case studies and insights from global leaders.

This degree is designed to accommodate the needs of busy professionals from a wide range of backgrounds. You will choose to study fully online, or in blended mode with part-time and full-time options available. In blended mode, you will study core courses online and attend two intensive face-to-face meetups per year on-campus or at our industry partner facilities. You will also have full access to all campus facilities throughout your study.
