Combining the business and technology of agriculture, this post-credential diploma prepares you for a career in one of Canada’s largest and most advanced industries.

Build on your existing business education and make yourself more desirable to employers. This program is specially designed for those with business-related degrees or diplomas who are looking to develop specialized skills to prepare them for a career in the fast-changing world of agriculture. 

Dive deep into fundamental agriculture topics, including crop production and protection, livestock production and environmental considerations directly related to agriculture. Develop additional knowledge in communications, customer service, sales and marketing, and management. Round out your analytical and critical thinking skills by learning the technological applications of GIS (geographical information systems) and GPS (global positioning systems).

Experience the best of both worlds: indoor classrooms, plant and soil labs, and outdoor field labs. Off-campus industry tours throughout the year allow you to see careers in action, network with others in your field,  and help you to see the complex and fast-paced world of agriculture. 

Whether you see yourself in finance, sales and marketing, consulting, research or management,  you’ll have the tools to get started. Potential employers include banks and credit unions, grain companies, equipment dealers and government agencies. Some graduates may even choose to become entrepreneurs or self-employed consultants.

With this two-year diploma program, you will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality early learning and child care to young children. This program is provincially accredited by the Child Care Qualifications and Training Committee (CCQTC).

The Business Administration program is designed with the entrepreneurial spirit in mind. Learn how to negotiate, invest, sell, market and manage people in this economy. Then, connect the dots within a strategic approach. This program will prepare you to administer and manage all types and sizes of businesses. In the second year, students specialize in one of the following areas:

• Accounting
• Financial Services
• Human Resource Management
• Marketing

These different specializations allow you to focus your career path during your second year. There are 60 credits of required courses that are common to all specializations (typically scheduled in year one for on campus students). Applicants declare their specialization at the time of applying to the program.

You may choose to complete your first year of any specialization at either the Parkland (Dauphin) or Victoria Avenue East campus (Brandon), however only the second-year of the Accounting and Human Resource Management specializations are available at our Parkland campus. All four specializations are offered in full at Assiniboine's Victoria Avenue East campus.

Marketing Specialization
Employment opportunities exist in sales, advertising, promotion, publicity, sales management, marketing management, retail management, market analysis, market research and new venture development.

Indulge your creativity and rise to the challenge in this demanding trade program. Take on the full menu of food preparation, including nutrition, presentation and international cuisine.

This two-year program brings you into the kitchen with everything you need to start your culinary career. In and out of the classroom, you will work closely with instructors through industry-based competitions, community projects and events. After graduation, you may be granted Level 1 and 2 towards becoming a Red Seal Chef once you register as an apprentice.

Follow your taste buds to the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts at our North Hill campus in Brandon. Campus grounds overlook the river valley below. The beautiful heritage building features a spacious modern teaching kitchen, culinary theatre and a 60-seat dining room.

You will research and plan menus for buffets, banquets, festivals and other events that you and your team will put on throughout the year. Distinctive ingredients that you help choose will need special culinary touches, and you will learn the techniques you need to bring them to mouth-watering reality.

Accounting Specialization
Graduates find opportunities in public accounting firms, banks, trust companies, accounting and internal auditing departments in industrial firms, federal, provincial or municipal offices, school divisions, parochial schools, tribal councils, non-profit organizations and health care institutions, and in owner-managed businesses as business/office managers. Many graduates choose to continue their education.

Graduates can anticipate applying their business management skills in areas relating to personnel administration: staffing, training and development, labour relations, compensation management and collective bargaining. Industry exams are written as part of your program curriculum, and you will be licensed to sell mutual funds. Obtain credit from the Investment Funds Institute of Canada for financial planning by registering directly with the organization. Learn to support the design, development and repair of communication systems, such as voice, video, data, wi-fi and Bluetooth, through this accredited two-year program. There are industry opportunities for you through our Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers student branch, Cisco Networking Systems partnership and CTAB accreditation. Assiniboine even has a connection to the Canadian Forces, where you can be accredited as a Weapon Engineering Technician.
