Students who wish to work in Canada require a work permit to do so. A student in Canada can work part-time during the course of his studies and full-time during holidays and semester breaks and post the completion of their course/program.
You can also work part-time on campus at your university.
Duration
Your part-time work permit will be valid for as long as you have a valid study permit.

As a full-time student, you can work for a maximum of 20 hours a week. However, you can work full- time during holidays and breaks.

WHY STUDY RECREATION (THERAPEUTIC) AT DAL?
A one-of-a-kind opportunity to improve quality of life
Learn how recreation and leisure experiences can be used to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, illnesses and other limitations. One of a few four-year degrees of its kind, Dalhousie's Recreation program was the first to be accredited in Canada by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. You'll be prepared to write the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) exam to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
What will I learn?
The goal of the program is to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills to work in a variety of settings as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Since we only accept approximately 25 students each year, class sizes are very small and you have the opportunity to work closely with faculty and fellow students.
In first year, along with the introductory leisure studies course, you’ll take a range of introductory courses in other departments, such as physiology, sociology, psychology and anatomy. In years two to four, your courses will reflect your individual interests in the program—anything from leadership and dynamics to community development.
In the final year of the program a 16-week internship, under the supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, takes you out of the classroom and provides you with hands-on work experience that enhances your studies.

What will I learn?
Dalhousie's Bioveterinary Science program blends a core general science education with specialized courses in animal health and welfare. Our 200-hectare farm and high-tech laboratories give you opportunities in experiential learning. You’ll work directly with animals like sheep, dairy cows, fish, chickens and more in both an academic and research capacity.
Students begin by taking foundation courses in biology, chemistry, math, physics, genetics, biochemistry and cell biology. This unique program is offered jointly by Dalhousie's School of Health and Human Performance and the Faculty of Management. After five years, you'll graduate with a Bachelor of Science (Recreation) and a Bachelor of Management—with a strong background in both the recreation and management fields. You'll have the business know-how and recreation management skills you'll need to start an exciting career in the growing recreation and leisure service industry. Our alumni and practicing professionals help guide our curriculum, which means you'll receive the skills and knowledge that employers are seeking.
What will I learn?
You'll have a wide variety of courses to choose from as you complete your degrees. In your first year, you'll take a mixture of introductory courses in Management, Economics, Sociology and Social Anthropology, Leisure Studies, and Health and Human Performance.
In subsequent years, the required Leisure Studies and Management courses become more specialized, while opportunities open up for other electives. Your courses will provide you with not only the theories of leisure studies and health promotion, but also the business skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage recreation programs and facilities.
The 14-week internship in the final year of the program takes you out of the classroom and provides you with hands-on work experience to enhance your studies. Please note: students who entered the program in September 2018 and onward will be required to do a 16 week internship.

What will I learn?
Plant Science will give you the knowledge and skills to research and investigate real-world problems associated with food security, quality and wellness. You’ll also dive into contemporary issues related to environmental integrity, biotechnology, plant breeding, sustainable crop production and more.
You will learn both the theory and practices related to the study of plants and their production. Your studies may lead you to expertise in many sub-disciplines such as fruit, vegetable, ornamental or field crops. You may focus on the genetics or physiology of plants or learn how to manage different types of farming systems.
In your first year of study, you’ll take foundation-building science courses in biology, chemistry, calculus and agricultural ecosystems and microeconomics. In your upper years you’ll study more in-depth subjects such as structural botany, entomology, plant pathology and soil fertility and nutrients. Students can tailor their degree to their personal interests by choosing from numerous electives.
