If you thrive in a smaller campus environment with average class sizes of 20 to 30 people, consider doing the first two years of your degree on our Truro campus. After completing your first two years (and earning an Engineering diploma), you will move to the Halifax campus to complete the final two years of your degree.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
A rapidly growing discipline within the engineering profession, environmental engineers develop solutions to environmental problems – from ensuring our drinking water is clean to remediation of environmental hazards. You'll learn various approaches to environment-based design, waste management, water and soil quality, energy conservation and renewables, and air quality.

WHY STUDY KINESIOLOGY AT DAL?
Learn how the human body moves as a complex living system
Are you interested in physical activity, cardiac health and ergonomics? We’ve got you covered. Kinesiology is a multidisciplinary approach to the study of human movement and our program offers you a wide variety of classes taught by professors known for their research. Tailor your degree to your interests with the option to focus on a specific study stream — fitness and lifestyle, ergonomics, or coaching science — or pursue an all-around combination of classes.

What will I learn?
The courses you take will depend on your personal interests. You’ll gain a broad background in various subdisciplines of kinesiology, including anatomy, physiology, neurophysiology, biomechanics, movement control and psychology of performance. You’ll also be exposed to the foundational sciences such as biology, physics, psychology and mathematics.

In your upper years, you can choose whether you’d like to do a general degree in kinesiology or apply to one of the three focused streams: ergonomics, fitness and lifestyle or coaching science. If you’re accepted into one of the streams, you'll need to take certain courses to complete your degree.

Along with your course learning, you’ll also gain experience in research methodology and have the opportunity to complete an independent research project. The 25-hour practicum in your final year will allow you to enhance your studies and put learning into practice in a professional setting.

The Faculty of Science at Dalhousie University is the primary centre for education and research in science in Atlantic Canada. The first two years of the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) program at Dalhousie is made up of core classes that are common to all disciplines. At the end of the first two years, these core classes can earn you a Diploma of Engineering before you finish the rest of your program in your discipline.

Following successful completion of all required courses of the Diploma of Engineering, Dal students will transition into the discipline they chose at the end of first-year engineering. The third year of study will be when students at Associated Universities make the transition to Dalhousie's Sexton campus to finish their degrees.

Neuroscience continues to emerge as an exciting, interdisciplinary area of research. It integrates psychology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, and other branches of the life sciences to provide comprehensive insights into the structure and function of the brain. Our neuroscientists work in both academic and clinical (i.e. hospital) settings, providing students with opportunities to participate in research projects in a range of specializations.

What will I learn?
When you study Neuroscience at Dalhousie, you’ll study different but related disciplines for an in-depth understanding of the structure and function of the brain and nervous system. You’ll have the opportunity to work in research labs and engage in studies that analyze the brain and its involvement in controlling behaviour.

In your first year of study, you'll take courses that will provide a firm grounding in the physical and biological sciences. In subsequent years, you’ll take more specialized courses in the fields of neuroscience, psychology and biology.

WHY STUDY RECREATION (THERAPEUTIC) AT DAL?

A one-of-a-kind opportunity to improve quality of life
Learn how recreation and leisure experiences can be used to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, illnesses and other limitations. One of a few four-year degrees of its kind, Dalhousie's Recreation program was the first to be accredited in Canada by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. You'll be prepared to write the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) exam to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

What will I learn?
The goal of the program is to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills to work in a variety of settings as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Since we only accept approximately 25 students each year, class sizes are very small and you have the opportunity to work closely with faculty and fellow students.
In first year, along with the introductory leisure studies course, you’ll take a range of introductory courses in other departments, such as physiology, sociology, psychology and anatomy. In years two to four, your courses will reflect your individual interests in the program—anything from leadership and dynamics to community development.

In the final year of the program a 16-week internship, under the supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, takes you out of the classroom and provides you with hands-on work experience that enhances your studies.

Chemical Engineering combines the principles of mathematics, chemistry and physics with engineering practices in order to improve the human environment. Chemical engineers deal with the transformation of raw materials into products we use every day – from soaps and cosmetics to plastics and food processing. Chemical Engineers have been long been regarded as the most versatile of all engineers; yet many opportunities exist to specialize in a particular area.

Pharmacists take medication histories, identify goals for drug therapy, provide education to patients regarding medications, make recommendations to other health-care providers about drug therapy, and much more. You'll gain the knowledge and skills to provide drug therapy toward improving patient health. The program’s curriculum offers problem-based learning (PBL) and other types of courses, which may include tutorials, lectures, labs, and practical experience in various settings.

What will I learn?
The pharmacy program delivers course content primarily through problem-based learning (PBL) modules. In the first year of the program, you’ll take courses in biomedical sciences, covering all essential subjects including anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and physiology. 

These courses are fully integrated in years two through four, covering not only the scientific side of pharmacy, but also the social. You'll look at such topics as therapeutics, pharmaceutical care, inter-professional relations, law and ethics, social and administrative pharmacy issues, and the role of pharmacy in the health-care system.
