If you thrive in a smaller campus environment with average class sizes of 20 to 30 people, consider doing the first two years of your degree on our Truro campus. After completing your first two years (and earning an Engineering diploma), you will move to the Halifax campus to complete the final two years of your degree.

MINERAL RESOURCE ENGINEERING
Mineral resource engineers develop economically and environmentally responsible ways of extracting and processing minerals from the Earth. Mineral resource engineers evaluate the economics of mineral deposits; develop plans for surface mines, roadways and tunnels; design underground mine plants and ventilation systems; ensure mine safety and environmental protection; and develop innovative mine technology.

European Studies is a multi-disciplinary program that enables understudies to take courses all through the workforce of Arts and Social Sciences. Our understudies get a wide base ever, language, governmental issues, and culture, and go on to a wide assortment of professions and graduate projects. 

Build up an expansive point of view on Europe through three fundamental subject classes: history and governmental issues; writing and thoughts; and the expressive arts. You'll likewise gain proficiency with a European language by enlisting into the Bachelor's Program in European examinations.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering undergraduate program is divided into two divisions, the lower division for the first two years and the upper division for the remaining two or two years and eight months.  A student may apply for and enter the lower division at Dalhousie University or at any of the Associated Universities in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The Associated Universities are Acadia University, Cape Breton University, St. Francis Xavier University, Saint Mary's University, and the University of Prince Edward Island. Once a student completes the studies in the lower division, he/she will obtain the Diploma of Engineering. Then he/she may apply for and enter the upper division either in the non co-op stream which takes two years to complete or in the co-op stream which takes two years and eight months to complete. The co-op stream requires a student to take at least three terms to work in industry while registering in the Electrical and Computer Engineering undergraduate program; as a result, a non co-op student will take two years to complete the upper division while a co-op student takes two years and eight months to complete. Once a student completes the upper division, he/she will receive the Degree of Bachelor in Engineering with or without the co-op designation accordingly. The tables below summarize the schedules of electrical and computer engineering program. A student needs to select and register one of the program schedules once he/she enters the upper division. Note that although Dalhousie University has a co-op office to help find the co-op work, not all the students can find the job placements for their work terms all the time. If this happens, a student registering with the co-op program may have to switch back to the non co-op program.  In addition, this Department offers the accredited Electrical Engineering Bachelor degree program with the curriculum options of either electrical or computer engineering. This Department does not offer a separate accredited computer engineering Bachelor degree program.

Dalhousie's Agricultural Business program is where science meets business, bringing the best of both worlds together. At the Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S., you'll experience a hands-on scientific education with practical work in the lab and in the field.

Agricultural Business introduces current issues, challenges and opportunities in the agricultural and related sectors to prepare you for a rewarding career. Courses cover business management, natural science and agriculture, so you can approach these industries with a well-rounded foundation of essential knowledge.

You’ll combine your major in ESS with a second major depending on your undergraduate degree of choice.

Dalhousie’s ESS program has an interdisciplinary approach, allowing you to explore how ESS topics relate to other industries you may be interested in. The core ESS courses will help you analyze and understand a wide range of concepts relating to energy, water, climate change, population and more.

The only program of its kind in Canada, Bioveterinary Science will give you the foundation for a career in veterinary medicine and opens up a world of other exciting opportunities. Offered at our Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S., this degree program is the starting point for your animal-related career.

What will I learn?
Dalhousie's Bioveterinary Science program blends a core general science education with specialized courses in animal health and welfare. Our 200-hectare farm and high-tech laboratories give you opportunities in experiential learning. You’ll work directly with animals like sheep, dairy cows, fish, chickens and more in both an academic and research capacity.

Students begin by taking foundation courses in biology, chemistry, math, physics, genetics, biochemistry and cell biology. These courses will give you the background for more in-depth studies in topics such as veterinary epidemiology, animal health and nutrition and mammalian physiology. You’ll leave with an in-depth knowledge of animals and focus on issues related to their health and care.

Dalhousie's Microbiology and Immunology programs will help you understand the disease-causing potential of bacteria and viruses, and the responses of the immune system.

Microbiology is the study of microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, and the roles they play in our lives. Immunology is the study of how the body protects itself from microbes that cause infectious disease and tumours. This includes the study of immune disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), multiple sclerosis (MS), and asthma.

In either program, you'll learn with instructors who are experts and active researchers in infectious diseases, cancer biology, inflammation, and host-pathogen interactions.

Materials engineering is indispensible in supplying materials to any industrialized nation. Materials engineers look at how materials are made; how and why certain materials are chosen for the manufacturing of different products like computers or cars; and how materials can be improved. 

Metals and materials are found in every aspect of society today. Materials have always been central to the advancement of civilization so it is not surprising that entire eras are named after them (bronze age, iron age). The importance of developing new, advanced materials is truly a global issue with societal demands for things such as more fuel efficient vehicles and faster computer processors reaching all time highs. Materials Engineers are the driving force behind such developments, having an unsurpassed understanding of the respective structure, properties and processing of materials. Consequently, graduates are employed in practically all industries. Principals amongst these are primary metal production, automotive, aerospace, government research establishments and consulting firms. Literally all graduates find immediate employment - historically, over 70% have secured full time positions before the start of their final academic term. These niche individuals are highly respected within the companies that they work for and many advance into upper managerial and executive positions.

WHY STUDY HEALTH SCIENCES AT DAL?
We’re a nationally accredited school that offers a Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) in four professional disciplines: Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiological Technology, and Respiratory Therapy. We also offer Medical Laboratory Technology in the Post Diploma program. We’re the only fully integrated four-year university-based program of this kind in Canada.

DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL ULTRASOUND
Who are Sonographers?
Sonographers are highly skilled health care professionals who use ultrasound (sound waves) to look inside a patient's body, evaluate the condition of various organs and record digital pictures.

Sonographers evaluate organs and structures such as the liver, kidneys, heart, thyroid, blood vessels, muscles, ovaries and developing babies. Sonographers provide a summary of what they've discovered and discuss their findings with specialized doctors, who use this information to make a diagnosis.

 How do I become a Sonographer?
The School of Health Sciences offers a four year Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) degree program, which includes theory and practice. Students will take core professional development courses with a concentration on ultrasound specific knowledge and skills. A diploma option is possible after completion of Year 3.  The program curriculum offers the necessary competencies to challenge the Sonography Canada professional examinations.
