The Environmental Sciences program offered through Dalhousie's Faculty of Agriculture at the Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S. can get you there. Our program teaches students to analyze complex environmental issues and develop practical solutions that consider the impacts on the environment, society and our economy.

What will I learn?
Dalhousie’s Environmental Sciences program is a multi-disciplinary program that offers diverse courses, personalized attention and quality instruction. It merges the physical and natural sciences to give you a unique and marketable education.

Alongside the core sciences, you'll also learn about ecosystems, conservation, water quality, waste reduction, site remediation and resource management and policy. You’ll put your classroom learning into practice through lab and field work. You'll also get an opportunity to practice environmental sampling and analysis.

Once students have identified their personal interests, they’ll be able to select one of the following specializations for their degree: Environmental Biology, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Economics, Environmental Soil Sciences, Pest Management (minor) or Waste Management.

The Bachelor of Commuity Design (BCD) is a three-year program that explores ways in which people can work towards creating and maintaining healthy and sustainable communities. Our BCD Brochure gives you an overview of the degree.

If you are eager to make changes in the world, the BCD will help you develop the knowledge and skills to allow you to analyse issues facing communities, such as food security, just cities, sustainable transportation, and affordable housing. You will learn how to develop solutions to these pressing concerns in communities of different sizes. WHY STUDY HEALTH SCIENCES AT DAL?
We’re a nationally accredited school that offers a Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) in four professional disciplines: Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiological Technology, and Respiratory Therapy. We also offer Medical Laboratory Technology in the Post Diploma program. We’re the only fully integrated four-year university-based program of this kind in Canada.

RADIOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGY
Who are Radiological Technologists?
Radiological technologists are highly skilled health care professionals who care for patients in all age groups - from newborns to older adults. They use x-radiation to create images of patient anatomy for diagnosis of injury or disease. Radiological technologists may also be known as medical radiation technologists, x-ray technologists or radiographers.

What do Radiological Technologists do?
Radiological technologists work in a variety of healthcare settings including clinical, hospitals, emergency departments, intensive care units and operating rooms. They use highly technical equipment to perform the following types of imaging procedures on all body systems: 

• Radiography
• Fluoroscopy
• Computed tomography (CT)
• Angiography and interventional
• Mammography
• Bone Density

How do I become a Radiological Technologist?
The School of Health Sciences offers a four-year degree program in radiological technology. The program curriculum offers the necessary competencies to challenge the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) professional examination.

What is the program like?
The program is designed to provide current students hands-on clinical experience to support the classroom teaching. It focuses on courses related to radiological technology, however they also take courses with students in other health professions. Each term the students spend time in the hospital to apply the theory they learn in class. In the summer term of years 1, 2 and 3, students complete an 8-week practicum, and during the fall and winter terms of year 3 and 4, most of the learning is in the clinical setting.

After completing your first two years (and earning an Engineering diploma), you will move to the Halifax campus to complete the final two years of your degree.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
A rapidly growing discipline within the engineering profession, environmental engineers develop solutions to environmental problems – from ensuring our drinking water is clean to remediation of environmental hazards. You'll learn various approaches to environment-based design, waste management, water and soil quality, energy conservation and renewables, and air quality.

At Dalhousie's Faculty of Agriculture in Truro, N.S., expert faculty and leading researchers guide students through a program that blends science and economics. You'll learn to see issues from a global perspective and develop the leadership skills to succeed.

What will I learn?
Agricultural Economics brings together elements of mathematics, management and the social sciences as part of a wide-ranging educational experience. Learning from respected faculty, researchers and guest lecturers from the agri-food industry, students form an understanding of food production, public policy, trade opportunities and international food aid, among other topics.

While studying at our Agricultural Campus in Truro, you gain insights into problem solving, diagnostics and whole-system analysis. You learn business and science in the context of social and environmental responsibility, using sustainable production systems. You acquire a theoretical knowledge of plants. 

The students learn by doing: through labs, experiments, and growth trials, they develop a practical skill-set through hands-on experiences.
You see first-hand how environmental factors affect plant growth. You'll propagate plants, glean from the soil what makes them grow, and discover how to control and improve that growth. You also learn how to grow a plant-dependent business and your education will set you apart from everyone else in the job market.

CIVIL ENGINEERING
Civil engineers provide a major contribution to society. They design and construct the infrastructures we use every day, from the roadways we travel on to the power stations that provide our homes with electricity.

Areas of focus
Students who choose to complete a degree in Civil Engineering will choose one of two distinct areas of focus:

• Option 1: Infrastructure
  • Students who choose structural engineering and materials will focus on the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructures, including buildings, bridges, highways, airports, power plants and tunnels and the materials that will ensure their resiliency and sustainability. This stream allows students to choose technical electives from any of the sub-disciplines in Civil Engineering.
• Option 2: Earth and Environment
  • With a focus on water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and environmental systems analysis, students will learn to identify and design solutions to mediate and mitigate human impacts on the environment. Students in this option may choose to specialize in the Earth Sciences and Environmental Sciences courses that are directly relevant to the Civil Engineering profession.

The Bachelor of Social Work encourages understudies to build up a wide scope of aptitudes and hypothetical points of view that are utilized in an assortment of occupation settings. What do Nuclear Medicine Technologists do?
Nuclear Medicine Technologists perform examinations that evaluate how the body functions. There are many diagnostic and therapeutic procedures Nuclear Medicine Technologists are responsible for performing; the most common organs evaluated/treated are:
