WHY STUDY MANAGEMENT AT DAL?

There's no other program like it in Canada. Our Bachelor of Management provides an innovative and interdisciplinary program that combines information management, environmental resource management, public administration and business.
What will I learn?
Your first two years are dedicated to core courses in Management Issues, Accounting, Marketing, Ethics and Social Responsibility, Government Structure, Data Literacy, Economics and Statistics.

In your third and fourth years, you'll choose electives to tailor your degree to your strengths and interests. Choose from one of five majors (Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Leadership and Organizations; Managing Data and Information (formerly Knowledge Management); Public Sector Management; or Environment, Sustainability and Society) to focus on your area of interest, or stay flexible by doing a general Bachelor of Management degree without a major.

The optional paid internship for Bachelor of Management students is a minimum of 32 weeks (approximately eight months) of consecutive, full-time work experience related to your studies. It takes place between your third and final academic year.

NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGY
Who are Nuclear Medicine Technologists?
Nuclear Medicine Technologists are highly skilled health care professionals who use radioactive drugs called radiopharmaceuticals to help diagnose and treat a variety of illnesses. They treat patients of all age groups, from newborns to older adults.

What do Nuclear Medicine Technologists do?
Nuclear Medicine Technologists perform examinations that evaluate how the body functions. There are many diagnostic and therapeutic procedures Nuclear Medicine Technologists are responsible for performing; the most common organs evaluated/treated are:

How do I become a Nuclear Medicine Technologist?
The School of Health Sciences offers a four year Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) degree program, which includes theory and practice. Students will take core professional development courses with a concentration on nuclear medicine specific skills. The program curriculum offers the necessary competencies to challenge the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) professional examination.

Neuroscience continues to emerge as an exciting, interdisciplinary area of research. It integrates psychology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, and other branches of the life sciences to provide comprehensive insights into the structure and function of the brain. Our neuroscientists work in both academic and clinical (i.e. hospital) settings, providing students with opportunities to participate in research projects in a range of specializations.

What will I learn?
When you study Neuroscience at Dalhousie, you’ll study different but related disciplines for an in-depth understanding of the structure and function of the brain and nervous system. You’ll have the opportunity to work in research labs and engage in studies that analyze the brain and its involvement in controlling behaviour.

In your first year of study, you'll take courses that will provide a firm grounding in the physical and biological sciences. In subsequent years, you’ll take more specialized courses in the fields of neuroscience, psychology and biology.

The Master of Health Administration (MHA) is a 16-month, CA+HME accredited program will prepare you to take the lead in managing healthcare organizations. You can cultivate a career in management and administration, playing a transformative role in improving healthcare for the communities we serve.

WHY STUDY KINESIOLOGY AT DAL?
Learn how the human body moves as a complex living system
Are you interested in physical activity, cardiac health and ergonomics? We’ve got you covered. Kinesiology is a multidisciplinary approach to the study of human movement and our program offers you a wide variety of classes taught by professors known for their research. Tailor your degree to your interests with the option to focus on a specific study stream — fitness and lifestyle, ergonomics, or coaching science — or pursue an all-around combination of classes.

What will I learn?
The courses you take will depend on your personal interests. You’ll gain a broad background in various subdisciplines of kinesiology, including anatomy, physiology, neurophysiology, biomechanics, movement control and psychology of performance. You’ll also be exposed to the foundational sciences such as biology, physics, psychology and mathematics.

In your upper years, you can choose whether you’d like to do a general degree in kinesiology or apply to one of the three focused streams: ergonomics, fitness and lifestyle or coaching science. If you’re accepted into one of the streams, you'll need to take certain courses to complete your degree.

Along with your course learning, you’ll also gain experience in research methodology and have the opportunity to complete an independent research project. The 25-hour practicum in your final year will allow you to enhance your studies and put learning into practice in a professional setting.

WHY STUDY RECREATION (THERAPEUTIC) AT DAL?

A one-of-a-kind opportunity to improve quality of life
Learn how recreation and leisure experiences can be used to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, illnesses and other limitations. One of a few four-year degrees of its kind, Dalhousie's Recreation program was the first to be accredited in Canada by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. You'll be prepared to write the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) exam to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

What will I learn?
The goal of the program is to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills to work in a variety of settings as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Since we only accept approximately 25 students each year, class sizes are very small and you have the opportunity to work closely with faculty and fellow students.
In first year, along with the introductory leisure studies course, you’ll take a range of introductory courses in other departments, such as physiology, sociology, psychology and anatomy. In years two to four, your courses will reflect your individual interests in the program—anything from leadership and dynamics to community development.

In the final year of the program a 16-week internship, under the supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, takes you out of the classroom and provides you with hands-on work experience that enhances your studies.

WHY STUDY RECREATION MANAGEMENT AT DAL?

Earn two degrees at once and expand your options
This unique program is offered jointly by Dalhousie's School of Health and Human Performance and the Faculty of Management. After five years, you'll graduate with a Bachelor of Science (Recreation) and a Bachelor of Management—with a strong background in both the recreation and management fields. You'll have the business know-how and recreation management skills you'll need to start an exciting career in the growing recreation and leisure service industry. Our alumni and practicing professionals help guide our curriculum, which means you'll receive the skills and knowledge that employers are seeking.

What will I learn?
You'll have a wide variety of courses to choose from as you complete your degrees. In your first year, you'll take a mixture of introductory courses in Management, Economics, Sociology and Social Anthropology, Leisure Studies, and Health and Human Performance.

In subsequent years, the required Leisure Studies and Management courses become more specialized, while opportunities open up for other electives. Your courses will provide you with not only the theories of leisure studies and health promotion, but also the business skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage recreation programs and facilities.

The 14-week internship in the final year of the program takes you out of the classroom and provides you with hands-on work experience to enhance your studies. Please note: students who entered the program in September 2018 and onward will be required to do a 16 week internship.

If you love science, the Dalhousie Integrated Science Program (DISP) is for you. You’ll get a well-rounded understanding of a variety of scientific disciplines and how they're linked together. Integrated Science is not a degree program; it’s a foundation-building year in the sciences. After finishing Integrated Science in your first year, you’ll join other Bachelor of Science (BSc) students in second-year courses and continue through to graduation, majoring in a field of your choice.

What will I learn?
Integrated Science is a good choice if you're interested in many sciences and unsure which area you’d like to focus on. The interdisciplinary nature of the program also ensures you get skills in field work, lab work and the process of conducting scientific research.

The core of the Integrated Science program is composed of Integrated Science I and II, which are equivalent to two terms of Biology and Psychology and one term of Earth Sciences and Statistics. Along with Ethics in Science, students will fulfill the writing requirements for BSc students. Students will also register for co-requisite courses in Chemistry and Calculus which are taken alongside other BSc students.

Integrated Science students learn on and off campus through group work, hands-on field trips, lab experiments and computer-based exercises. Most students who enroll in Integrated Science in their first year at Dalhousie also end up completing an honours degree in science.
