The Department of Theatre has a wide range of courses to start your career in Acting, Stage Design and Technical Theatre and Theatre Studies. 

Students will be learning about film editing, art direction and also will have opportunities to apply their skills in labs for set construction, lighting, props, and sound.  After completing the program you may have a wide variety of career opportunities like director, playwright, actor, technician or designer in the professional theatre in Canada.  You may also work as a high school drama teacher, or as art administration in the theatre and film industries.

CIVIL ENGINEERING
Civil engineers provide a major contribution to society. They design and construct the infrastructures we use every day, from the roadways we travel on to the power stations that provide our homes with electricity.

Areas of focus
Students who choose to complete a degree in Civil Engineering will choose one of two distinct areas of focus:

• Option 1: Infrastructure
  • Students who choose structural engineering and materials will focus on the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructures, including buildings, bridges, highways, airports, power plants and tunnels and the materials that will ensure their resiliency and sustainability. This stream allows students to choose technical electives from any of the sub-disciplines in Civil Engineering.
• Option 2: Earth and Environment
  • With a focus on water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and environmental systems analysis, students will learn to identify and design solutions to mediate and mitigate human impacts on the environment. Students in this option may choose to specialize in the Earth Sciences and Environmental Sciences courses that are directly relevant to the Civil Engineering profession.

Studying Integrated Environmental Management at Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S. will offer you training in green science and technology. Founded on the four pillars of bio-resources - technology, energy, water and waste - you’ll gain the skills to create sustainable solutions to our national and global resource management and food production needs.

What will I learn?
Studying Integrated Environmental Management at Dalhousie means you’ll learn about real-world problems and how to solve them. First-year students begin by building a foundation in the core sciences of agriculture, biology, chemistry and calculus. In upper years, you’ll study technologies associated with biological and environmental systems as they apply to fiber fuel and food. Plus, you’ll apply your knowledge to solve industry-related problems.

Courses cover a wide variety of topics including agriculture, water and food processing systems, mechanics of materials, structures and their environment, renewable energy and engineering measurements and controls. You can also choose from numerous electives to tailor your degree to your interests.

In addition to classroom learning, you’ll take part in experiential learning activities such as labs and experiments. You’ll have access to cutting-edge research opportunities, advanced technology and exceptional learning facilities.

Chemical principles govern most aspects of life, from the food we eat to the technology we take for granted. Understanding chemistry helps us protect our environment and influence people’s daily lives. As a Dalhousie chemistry student, you’ll notice the dedication our award-winning faculty have to teaching and mentoring students.  

What will I learn?
Studying chemistry at Dalhousie involves training in the four major branches of chemistry: inorganic, organic, analytical and physical. Through courses and labs you’ll acquire a range of skills from organizing large bodies of information, to quantitative analytical skills. You’ll learn to describe your work clearly, both orally and in writing. You’ll learn how to reliably generate data, and asses the meaning of your results.

First-year students begin by taking foundation courses in chemistry, physics and math. These courses will give you the background for more in-depth studies in topics such as materials science, chemistry of living systems and quantum mechanics and chemical bonding.

Students who want a challenging program have the opportunity to complete an honours degree in their fourth year by conducting an independent research project. Co-op Education opportunities are also available to students who wish to put learning into practice and gain career-related experience while completing their degree.

WHY STUDY HEALTH SCIENCES AT DAL?
We’re a nationally accredited school that offers a Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) in four professional disciplines: Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiological Technology, and Respiratory Therapy. RADIOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGY
Who are Radiological Technologists?
Radiological technologists are highly skilled health care professionals who care for patients in all age groups - from newborns to older adults. They use x-radiation to create images of patient anatomy for diagnosis of injury or disease. Radiological technologists may also be known as medical radiation technologists, x-ray technologists or radiographers.

What do Radiological Technologists do?
Radiological technologists work in a variety of healthcare settings including clinical, hospitals, emergency departments, intensive care units and operating rooms. They use highly technical equipment to perform the following types of imaging procedures on all body systems:

How do I become a Radiological Technologist?
The School of Health Sciences offers a four-year degree program in radiological technology. The program curriculum offers the necessary competencies to challenge the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) professional examination.

What is the program like?
The program is designed to provide current students hands-on clinical experience to support the classroom teaching. It focuses on courses related to radiological technology, however they also take courses with students in other health professions. Each term the students spend time in the hospital to apply the theory they learn in class. In the summer term of years 1, 2 and 3, students complete an 8-week practicum, and during the fall and winter terms of year 3 and 4, most of the learning is in the clinical setting.

The pharmacy program delivers course content primarily through problem-based learning (PBL) modules. In the first year of the program, you’ll take courses in biomedical sciences, covering all essential subjects including anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and physiology. 

These courses are fully integrated in years two through four, covering not only the scientific side of pharmacy, but also the social. You'll look at such topics as therapeutics, pharmaceutical care, inter-professional relations, law and ethics, social and administrative pharmacy issues, and the role of pharmacy in the health-care system.

European Studies is a multi-disciplinary program that enables understudies to take courses all through the workforce of Arts and Social Sciences. Our understudies get a wide base ever, language, governmental issues, and culture, and go on to a wide assortment of professions and graduate projects.

Integrated Science is not a degree program; it’s a foundation-building year in the sciences. After finishing Integrated Science in your first year, you’ll join other Bachelor of Science (BSc) students in second-year courses and continue through to graduation, majoring in a field of your choice.

What will I learn?
Integrated Science is a good choice if you're interested in many sciences and unsure which area you’d like to focus on. The interdisciplinary nature of the program also ensures you get skills in field work, lab work and the process of conducting scientific research.

The core of the Integrated Science program is composed of Integrated Science I and II, which are equivalent to two terms of Biology and Psychology and one term of Earth Sciences and Statistics. Along with Ethics in Science, students will fulfill the writing requirements for BSc students. Students will also register for co-requisite courses in Chemistry and Calculus which are taken alongside other BSc students.

Integrated Science students learn on and off campus through group work, hands-on field trips, lab experiments and computer-based exercises. Most students who enroll in Integrated Science in their first year at Dalhousie also end up completing an honours degree in science.
