Flight Services is a one-year Ontario certificate program that prepares students to enter the airline industry with the knowledge and skills to provide exceptional passenger service. Students will engage in simulations to practice aircraft entry, exit, and emergency procedures. Graduates of this program are prepared for a career as a flight attendant.

The Aviation Technician - Aircraft Maintenance (Co-op) program is a Transport Canada approved program (TC-2013-08-4174) with a co-operative education component. This program provides the knowledge and skills required to start a career in fixed wing and helicopter maintenance. This program covers all aspects of aircraft maintenance; including systems used in general and corporate aviation, charter aviation, and transport category aircraft and helicopters.

Co-operative Education
In order to be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term.
This is a two-year co-operative education program. Students who fulfill both the academic and co-op requirements of the program will be eligible to graduate with a Co-op Endorsed Diploma. More information about co-operative education can be found at www.fanshawec.ca/co-op.

Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

• Inspect and service aircraft systems on large or small, fixed or rotary wing aircraft utilizing current and relevant theories of aerodynamics; aircraft; and mechanical, electrical, electronic, and engineering principles.
• Inspect, test, troubleshoot, service, repair and overhaul aircraft in a manner that ensures adherence to Canadian aviation and company regulations of aircraft safety and airworthiness.
• Evaluate fixed wing and rotary aircraft structures including transparencies, materials and fasteners, furnishings and fabric coverings, and lines and conduits, to complete maintenance, assembly, fabrication and repair work on large and small aircraft.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections on aircraft systems, structures, instruments, and related components to ensure they are in proper working order and meet standards of performance and safety.
• Install aircraft engines, parts, components and structures as part of routine and unscheduled maintenance and replacement tasks.
• Diagnose malfunctions or other problems in aircraft systems, structures, instruments, and related components using technical manuals, drawings, blueprints, and standards of performance and safety.
• Complete structural and non-structural repairs and modifications by following applicable procedures and safety precautions, and meeting industry standards.
• Perform component wear and fatigue analysis using appropriate measuring devices to determine necessary repair or replacement tasks in order to maintain the aircraft's airworthiness and safety.
• Perform service, maintenance, repair, reconditioning, and modification procedures on aircraft systems, structures, instruments, and related components to maintain aircraft safety and airworthiness.
• Dismantle airframes, aircraft engines and other systems for repair and overhaul.
• Interpret written instructions, schematics, manufacturer's specifications, technical drawings, manuals, and computer based information correctly, effectively, and efficiently while performing routine and unscheduled tasks.
• Maintain detailed inspection, repair, maintenance, and certification records and reports to meet industry regulations and logbook requirements.
• Complete all work in a manner that enhances health, wellness, and personal wellbeing; reduces the risk of occupational and workplace injury; meets relation health, safety and environmental legislation; and conforms to occupational health and safety guidelines.

In this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate, students will engage with materials, design, and fabrication theory and practices for composites and advanced materials, including carbon, laminate, glass, and fabric reinforcement, destructive and non-destructive tensile testing techniques, and infusion and machining techniques. The curriculum will also emphasize quality assurance, safety, evaluation, and control methods.

This program is designed for graduates of diploma, advanced diploma, or degree programs in engineering. Graduates of this program will be prepared for employment as technicians, technologists, or engineers in the areas of manufacturing, assembly, quality control/quality assurance, and destructive/non-destructive materials testing.

The Remotely Piloted Aerial Systems (RPAS/UAV) Commercial Operations Graduate Certificate will provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to design, support, operate, market and maintain RPAS or UAV commercial operations and related RPAS systems and software in entrepreneurial and research contexts. This program will cover all aspects of RPAS/UAV systems including electrical and electronics systems such as communication, navigation, and data systems and will focus on the design and maintenance of these systems. Additionally, this program will provide graduates with entrepreneurial, research, and market analysis skills aimed at bridging the gap between the technical and business aspects of the growing and innovative RPAS/UAV industry.

The Aviation Technician - Avionics Maintenance (Co-op) program is a Transport Canada approved program (TC-2011-08-4128) with a co-operative education component. This program provides the knowledge and skills required to start a career in aircraft avionics maintenance, which is responsible for servicing, repair and maintenance of aircraft electrical and electronics systems such as communication, navigation and data systems. This program covers all aspects of aircraft avionics systems used in general aviation, corporate, charter transport category aircraft and helicopters.

• Apply the current regulatory requirements to the safety and airworthiness of aircraft.
• Perform major and minor maintenance tasks on airframes and engines.
• Install and maintain aircraft electrical systems.
• Install and maintain aircraft instrument systems.
• Install and maintain aircraft avionic and flight control systems.
• Apply the principles and practices of aircraft maintenance engineer category “E” to all work situations.

This one-year Ontario College Certificate prepares students to repair, overhaul, and modify commercial aircraft in accordance with high standards of aviation safety. The hands-on, project-based curriculum in this program provides students with technical training for material and component assembly, fabrication, manufacturing, and repair.

This is a Transport Canada-approved program (TC-2019-09-4268) that will allow eligible graduates to receive 10 months towards a Transport Canada-issued Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) License, Category S. Graduates of this program will be prepared for careers with Canadian and international aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul organizations.

Learning Outcomes

• Complete minor and major maintenance, assembly, fabrication, and structural repair work on large or small, fixed or rotary wing aircraft using the appropriate tools and equipment;
• Diagnose malfunctions and defects or other problems in metallic and composite structures, instruments, and related components using technical manuals, drawings, blueprints, engineering orders, and standards of performance and safety;
• Complete airworthiness directives, manufacturers' service bulletin, and engineering modification tasks on aircraft systems and metallic and composite structures;
• Dismantle and reassemble airframes for repair and overhaul;
• Evaluate the structural integrity of airframes prior to and during disassembly to prevent further damage to the airframe;
• Design and generate damage reports, shop sketches and rectification statements and use design criteria to generate damage repair schemes;
• Identify and employ modern manufacturing techniques with advanced composite and sheet metal structures;
• Perform weight and balance calculations to ensure accurate aircraft information is available for flight and loading;
• Interpret written instructions, schematics, manufacturers' specifications, technical drawings, manuals, and computer-based information while performing routine and unscheduled tasks;
• Maintain detailed inspection, repair, maintenance, and certification records and reports to meet industry regulations and logbook requirements;
• Perform all work in accordance with health and safety regulations, manufacturers' specifications, Canadian Aviation Regulations and Transport Canada guidelines, and company practices, policies, and procedures.
