As part of the Faculty of Natural Resources Management, our Forestry program will provide you with a background in the biological, social and operational fundamentals of forestry and its relationship to our ecosystems. You will gain the business skills, scientific expertise and practical experience needed to solve modern conservation and sustainability challenges.

Our Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry shares a common curriculum with the Honours Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management for the first two years.Through a specialization, you will delve deeper into the areas of Forest Management, Forest Health and Protection, or the emerging area of Forest Products and Marketing.

You will be exposed to the high-tech world of modern forest management through the use of GPS/GIS technologies, 3-D visualization, remote sensing with satellite imagery and airborne systems including drone (UAV) technology, and genetic research.

We are nationally accredited by the Canadian Forestry Accreditation Board, meaning you will meet the academic requirements of membership for a number of professional forest associations across Canada. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to receive your Registered Professional Forester (RPD) designation and become a member of the Canadian Institute of Forestry. This feature is unique to Lakehead University and provides you with an impressive professional advantage.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences welcomes applications from students wishing to work in a Master's degree program in Mathematics. Graduate students will work on research in the area of expertise of one or more of our faculty members.

Mathematics is a science of pattern and order. It seeks order where there is chaos. It reveals hidden patterns that help us understand many complex problems surrounding us. The study of mathematics develops analytical and critical thinking skills which employers find extremely valuable. Consequently, a solid degree in mathematics can lead to a variety of careers. Mathematical Sciences is the abstract discipline of numbers, quantity, and space. Mathematics may be studied in its own right, or as applied to other disciplines; such as physics and engineering.

Current areas of specialization include: Algebra, graph theory, functional analysis, harmonic analysis, numerical analysis, operator algebras, optimization, operations research, partial differential equations, and probability and statistics.

Accounting is an information system designed to gather, measure, interpret and communicate financial information in order to facilitate decision making. Decision makers may be internal or external to the organisation and include equity investors, lenders, creditors and managers.

At the Faculty of Business Administration, theory and practice are integrated to expand your understanding of the creation, uses, and limitations of accounting information. Courses are continually updated to reflect changes in technical standards and general theories in order to enhance and encourage a focus on both.

Our Geoarchaeology program is truly unique, and one of the few offered in North America. Our location in Northwestern Ontario, among diverse landscapes, soils, and natural features, makes Lakehead University a great place to study the hands-on discipline. 

The program is a collaboration between the departments of Anthropology, Geography, and Geology, and focuses on applying the concepts and methods in these fields to interpret artifacts left behind by ancient societies.

You will have opportunities to immerse yourself in adventure and discovery with training in the field, access to cutting-edge laboratory facilities, and research collaboration with faculty members.

Explore the modern applications of bio-molecular research in anthropology, chemistry, biology, and physics as a student of Applied Life Sciences. This interdisciplinary program focuses on the study of living organisms at the bio-molecular or cellular level, and the human manipulation of molecular biological processes, with hands-on learning through laboratory courses, research opportunities, and internships.

You will acquire skills in cutting-edge molecular biology, biotechnology, and diagnostic methods in our world-renowned labs including the Paleo DNA Laboratory.

The Applied Life Sciences major can include a concentration in Biomedical Sciences, as well as specializations in Biotechnology or Experimental Life Sciences. A combined degree-diploma program offered in partnership with Georgian College is another option that will allow you to graduate with both an Honours Bachelor of Science in Applied Life Science degree and a Biotechnology-Health diploma.

Indigenous Learning is an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural department open to both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students. Borrowing from subjects including history, geography, anthropology and sociology, this program will examine societal structures and the ways the Indigenous population relates to mainstream populations in Canada.

Throughout our programs we aim to enhance your awareness of Aboriginal life experiences, culture and political issues. We focus on the current reality of Aboriginal Peoples as opposed to the traditional, anthropological approach. While history is a component of your Indigenous Learning studies, it will be within the context of lived implications in order to challenge assumptions and mistaken understandings about Aboriginal Peoples.

The Faculty of Engineering at Lakehead University - Thunder Bay offers a uniquely designed four-year Bachelor of Engineering Degree program in Civil Engineering, with a Co-op/Internship option available. The BEng (Civil) degree at Lakehead University is accredited through the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB).

Lakehead University - Thunder Bay has the only Faculty of Engineering in Canada where, after completing high school, you can earn a Bachelor of Engineering Degree and an Engineering Technology Diploma in four years.

Our Department of Chemistry is well-equipped for both teaching and research, with small class sizes to ensure you have the support necessary to succeed. In addition to faculty expertise, you will have access to a number of modern research instruments housed in our advanced facilities including the Lakehead University Instrumentation Lab.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of Chemistry, we encourage you to pursue your interests in the field and the other core sciences. In addition to your Chemistry degree, you may combine your studies with a degree in Biology and/or Education, or a Specialization in Medical Sciences.

If you are interested in a career in the medical applications of chemistry, consider taking advantage of our Specialization in Medical Sciences to give you an added professional edge. Courses such as Bioinformatics, Medical Imaging, and Biological Physics will prepare you for a more focused career path post-graduation, or success in professional schools such as medicine or dentistry.

The study of language facilitates communication as well as the understanding of broader cultural and historical contexts that influence the way we live.

It is not necessary for you to be fluent in French prior to enrolment. Our classes are designed to facilitate language development for those at all skill levels as long as admission requirements are met.
