Set a career in the sciences in motion by starting a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree at Lakeland College.

You'll learn - and experiment - in state of the art labs Lloydminster’s Bill Kondro wing. You’ll be setting yourself up for academic success with smaller class sizes and up-to-date-equipment. Your labs will also take you outdoors for field labs.

A bachelor of science degree can be a diverse education in more than one science, or in a specific science. At the U of A, for example, you may take a major and a minor. This may be the launch of your career in research, consulting or other scientific endeavors.

As well, you may take science courses as a pre-professional year or degree before going on to areas such as

• Dental hygiene
• Dentistry
• Medical lab science
• Nursing
• Nutrition
• Pharmacy
• Veterinary medicine

Sustainable energy is energy produced and used so that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations. This includes environmental aspects such as greenhouse gas emissions in addition to social and economic aspects such as energy poverty.

You’ll study the:

• Anatomy and physiology of the skin
• Diseases and pharmacology
• Epidemiology and nutrition.

At Lakeland your classroom is our campus spa. You’ll learn to do and practice with clients:

• Manicures and pedicures including gel polish
• Facials including chemical peel and microdermabrasion
• Body treatments such as wraps and scrubs
• Body waxing
• Makeup artistry
• Lash and brow tints
• Relaxation/hot rock massage

HOPE covers two power engineering classes. In first year, you’ll earn your 4th class certification. That’s a requirement before you move into your second practicum between your first and second year of classes.

For 3rd class training, you’ll move from the skills training in the Husky Power Engineering Lab to the more complex Energy Centre. It’s an integrated power plant with a once-through steam generator.

Power engineering is all about safely operating and maintaining boilers, turbines and engines. Your job prospects aren’t limited to the oil sector. You could work in:

• Power generation
• Chemical plants
• Food processing
• Hospital and institutional power plants

Our 2nd year steam practicum is what sets Lakeland apart. We find you spots, usually paid ones. This 3-month practicum comes after 200 hours of lab firing time.

To start, you’ll be work-force ready. During your first year you’ll build basic business skills. In your second you’ll take specialized courses in:

• Managerial and cost accounting
• Financial management
• Business law and statistics

All your courses will develop your technical accounting skills and expertise.

Start building industry connections and get real world experience between first and second year. The 16-week practicum is optional, but another asset.

If an accounting designation is your goal, this diploma is a starting point. Your courses are on the pathway to a [Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation].

If you want a degree, you don't have to leave Lakeland. Our partnership with Athabasca University gives you two options.

• Bachelor of Management is an extra year.
• Stay for two years, and earn a Bachelor of Commerce.

Set your number crunching career in motion with our one-year accounting technician program. You’ll learn technical accounting skills that are in demand generally in business, and specifically, in the accounting sector. When you graduate, you’re work force ready. You could be a bookkeeper in a small or medium-sized business. Or, do a specialized job in a large company or accounting firm. Those options include roles such as payroll and accounts payable clerks.

Expand your clinical skills and multiple your career options as an esthetician. You’ll start the clinical program with esthetician students, perfecting wellness treatments like manicures, pedicures and facials.

In your 7-week third semester you’ll take advanced courses in:

• The skin’s anatomy and physiology
• skin diseases and disorders
• Clinical facials
• Laser technology
• Chemical peels
• Microdermabrasion
• Micro-needling
• Dermaplaning

You’ll work with the latest technology: A multi-functional laser. You’ll learn how to use it in the spa-classroom. Then, you'll practice your skills during public clinics in the student-led spa.
