The Administrative Office Management program will provide you with the necessary computer skills, office skills and practical on-the-job work experience required for employment in today’s office, as well as an enhanced skill-set to increase your potential for obtaining a supervisory or managerial position in an office environment.

Throughout the program, you will focus on areas such as:

• Bookkeeping,
• Accounting,
• File maintenance and
• Project management,

as well as learn management theory, supervision, human resource management, leadership, and group dynamics.
Two unpaid work terms during the first year of the program will provide you with practical, hands-on training, and upon completion of the first year, you will receive a certificate in Administrative Office Professional.

Medicine Hat College offers a two year transfer program. You complete your first two years at Medicine Hat College and then transfer to Mount Royal University in Calgary to complete your baccalaureate degree.

There is a mandatory work term organized by Mount Royal University where you are placed in paid work situations to gain experience and knowledge. 
 

Your future success in business rests on the foundation of knowledge and skills you’ll build in the Business Administration Diploma program. This program offers you the opportunity to focus on your strength and career goals, with majors in Accounting, Financial Services, Hospitality & Tourism (pending government approval), Marketing, Management, and Administrative Office Professional. All students are admitted into a common first year before concentrating on a specific area through declaring a major in your second year.

Financial Services is designed to prepare you for entry level positions in banks, credit unions and other financial institutions. Courses in the program include personal investing, accounting, marketing, and communications. These subjects will help provide you with a wide range of knowledge and skills related to modern business theory and practice.

It has been widely recognized that the early years of a child’s life are essential for healthy development. Child care providers play an important role in this time of a child’s life and they need to have an understanding of working with children, families and communities. Child care providers are now being recognized and valued by both families and government more than ever, making this an ideal time to enter the field.  

In the Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) program, you will learn the importance of play in the lives of children, and our classes give you lots of hands-on learning opportunities. We play with art materials, story props, and science and math materials to better understand how children learn and how we can help teach them. Our program also gives you the opportunity to apply theory to practice every semester through a five-week practicum setting. You’ll be able to practice your communication skills, better understand child development, and provide developmentally appropriate programming for children.  

Our ELCC program will help you work with children in a variety of settings or move on to other educational programs. Many students have said our program helped them grow on a personal level and was very useful when they became parents themselves. Others have entered specialized areas of child care, or assumed leadership responsibilities in a variety of settings.  

The Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) certificate program is a multi-disciplinary program focusing on the core disciplines of the built environment:

• Mechanical engineering technology,
• Civil engineering technology and
• Building design technology.

In your introduction to the concepts of drafting, you will learn the basics of AutoCAD, mathematics, topography, architecture, physical sciences, and other related topics. This program concentrates on the foundational theories and concepts in while learning and applying current technology, including developing technical and artistic skills to become a drafting technician or technologist with strong knowledge of industry standard software.

This program will be challenging yet flexible by offering you the opportunity to focus on the areas that interest you most. Having a strong background in computers, mathematics, and physics is an asset to anyone entering the program. Time management skills are also necessary as the program has an especially heavy course load.

This certificate builds students’ knowledge of accounting theory and application. It serves as a stand-alone skill upgrade for business program graduates interested in pursuing accounting technician or bookkeeping employment. The program also serves as a bridge to MHC’s one-year Advanced Accounting post-diploma certificate for students pursuing CPA designation. The certificate includes a work integrated learning course to provide hands-on experience. 

A first of its kind in Canada, MHC's Sustainable Innovation diploma, with majors in Business or Science, provides students with the ability to develop, implement and lead sustainable innovation strategies in diverse industries. Students will acquire just-in-time experience learning to develop the skills and competencies needed to analyze and evaluate the detailed ecosystems that reinforce and support our built environment.

Offered in-person and HyFlex, this two-year program of five semesters includes an integrated workplace learning experience and is designed for change makers who are excited about challenging existing standards and propelling their ideas forward to positively impact our communities and society. This program trains the next generations of leaders to initiate effective, innovative and sustainable approaches to solving challenges that impact people, places and profits by looking at new and strategic ways of doing business.

The Sustainable Innovation diploma challenges learners to broaden their perspective and create new products, services, systems, and processes that develop long-term solutions and address the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The term sustainability focuses not only on climate change but recognizes that ending poverty and other hardships naturally coincides with strategies to improve health, education, social equality, and economic growth.

Service Dog and Canine Studies Management is an exciting new opportunity that prepares students for a career in a wide range of canine-related fields. This program explores canine care and a variety of dog training techniques while having the student train a service dog for a specific disability that will be placed with an actual client at the end of their schooling. It is a two-year, five-semester, program including workplace integrated learning in both shelters/kennels and a two-month spring course in a service dog organization that will give the student a valuable professional experience as part of their education. The program is designed for the student who enjoys working with animals and working in a therapeutic and helping profession field.

If you have an affinity towards science and would like to pursue a degree in one of its many areas, you can begin your university studies at Medicine Hat College. We offer a wide variety of courses that you can take here that count as credit at other institutions throughout Canada.
Our program is designed to prepare you to transfer to another institution after you have completed two years with us. Years three and four of your Bachelor of Science may be in a range of disciplines such as physics, cell biology, physiology or zoology. Alternatively, you may pursue a professional program such as medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry or pharmacy. The possibilities are endless when you follow your scientific inspiration.
Our faculty has proven to be our best asset. They are well-educated, approachable, available and supportive. Feedback from our students has indicated that they value the direct and guided contact with our instructors. First and second year science courses at many universities accommodate 250-400 students. Our first year class sizes are typically less than 80 and second year class sizes are less than 25!
Since we strive to make the transition to university as smooth as possible, this is very important. You will receive ample one-on-one time with your instructors, and you will be prepared for your third and fourth years at university. Completing the first two years of your science education at MHC will also help you better develop skills through direct lab and field experiences, including real-world applications. You can also take advantage of lower tuition costs for your first two years by starting at MHC. You may even be able to save money by either delaying a move away from home, or benefitting from the lower cost of living in Medicine Hat versus larger cities.

The business program offers you the opportunity to focus on your own strengths and career goals. Students interested in the Accounting, Marketing, Financial Services, and Management majors take a common first year of classes before concentrating on a specific area. You can also pursue a Business/Administrative Office Professional major.

Accounting prepares you for an entry-level accounting position. In addition to acquiring a basic knowledge of accounting theory and practice, you will gain a range of business skills that are of value to many businesses and organizations. If your goal is to earn recognition as a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA), you can build a program that fulfills the designation's requirements.

Financial Services is designed to prepare you for entry level positions in banks, credit unions and other financial institutions. Marketing prepares you for careers in the field by focusing on the skills needed to create successful relationships with consumers and organizational customers. Possible areas of employment include sales promotion, sales, customer relations/service, marketing research, advertising, public relations, and retailing.

Management students are prepared for entry-level positions in profit and non-profit organizations. Graduates may also choose to work for a small or family-owned business or to become an entrepreneur.

Business/Administrative Office Professional is appropriate for individuals wishing to work in a technical position within a business office or develop comprehensive perspective on business theory and practice. You may enter this major after completing the Administrative Office Professional certificate.
