In Hospitality, you will study international hotel management and develop the skills needed to understand the complexities of managing international hotel operations, identify global ownership and management models. You will learn how different values, attitudes and beliefs affect employees, clients and cultures. Courses in food and beverage management, entrepreneurship and special events management will enhance your skills and understanding of this dynamic sector. An international field trip to a top tourism destination gives you a behind-the-scenes understanding of hospitality management.

Qualify for entry-level leadership and guiding positions with sea kayaking and river rafting companies, coastal and mountain resorts, sailboat-based tours, whale and wildlife tour operators, outdoor centres, youth wilderness programs and camps, adventure therapy programs, interpretative centres and other rewarding settings.

You will be well-prepared with relevant outdoor leadership skills that transfer across a variety of career paths and professions such as conservation officer, park ranger, teacher, community recreation programmer, field researcher or assistant (biology, geology, etc.), professional ski patroller and other industries and services.

A diploma in business administration will qualify you for a wide range of career opportunities. Depending on your interests and area of specialization, job titles may include, but would not be limited to, market researcher, sales and retail manager, advertising coordinator and product manager.   You may choose from three diploma options: General Management, Accounting or Marketing all of which include an optional Co-op term. 

Graduates of this program are equipped to pursue employment in the field of communication design, graphic design and web design and front-end scripting. Graduates may also choose to continue their studies with North Island College by continuing with either the Communications Design diploma or the Web + Mobile App Development diploma.

Explore anthropology, criminology, English, First Nations, history, modern languages (Chinese, French and Spanish), North American studies, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology and women’s studies, as well as electives in math and sciences.   

Associate degrees are offered at many colleges and universities throughout BC. They recognize successful completion of 60 credits of study, which is approximately 20 courses. With full-time study, you can complete an associate degree within two academic years. Part-time study options are also available.   

Associate degrees offer a great deal of flexibility. You can choose your preferred courses from a specific list of eligible courses, making it possible to focus your studies in one specific area or explore a variety of subjects.

Graduates of this program are equipped to pursue employment in a broad swath of computer programming-related fields, including iOS and Android application development, web development, and games development, as well as more generalized computer programming careers. Graduates may also choose to continue their studies with North Island College by continuing with the Advanced Communication Design Diploma.

As an NIC Engineering Foundations Certificate student, you will gain the same skills and knowledge that you would receive in your first year at institutions such as UVic and UBC, but with smaller class sizes and personalized instruction in classes and labs. Choose from part-time or full-time studies to manage your workload or complete the program in one academic year. Upon graduation, you will be well prepared to communicate your ideas effectively as you learn to solve math and physical science problems at the first-year university level, applying principles of math and science to creative problem solving and design.

As a graduate with an accounting designation will qualify for career opportunities in a wide range of work environments, both in Canada and internationally. This may include working in public practice or in industry. You may pursue your designation in accounting with the CPA or could consider further education in masters programs in a variety of disciplines. With a 3.0 GPA this program qualifies you for guaranteed admission in to the VIU MBA/MScIB Degree. The possibilities are endless.

Social service students at NIC will be exposed to a variety of community agencies that help children, youth and adults access services such as financial assistance, parenting resources, employment support, life skill acquisition or youth justice, as well as services to prevent family violence and/or substance abuse. You will examine issues relating to inequality, social policy, human rights, multiculturalism, conflict management, program development and community development.

NIC’s Human Services department and its programs are part of a provincial network that ensures not only high-quality instruction and programming, as well as transferability throughout the province.  As a graduate of the Educational Assistant/Community Support program you will be prepared to assist individuals who have physical, cognitive and psychiatric disabilities.
