This program offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to the study of neuroscience, with an emphasis on strong foundational science and practical laboratory skills.

Taught by area experts from the Faculties of Science, Health Science, and Social Science and Humanities, you'll study the nervous system at the cellular level, understand its influences on functional circuits at the macroscopic level, and learn how this forms the basis of behaviour, movement and neurological diseases. You will explore neuroscience from an evolutionary perspective, including a comparative analysis of the nervous system and behaviour among different animal groups.  Your understanding of the function of the nervous system at the molecular, structural, behavioral, and cognitive levels, will be developed through interdisciplinary study and hands-on laboratory learning in the sciences. 

Astrophysics is a specialization within the Physics program. Students will explore the current state of knowledge in astrophysics, examine new and emerging theories, and utilize modern techniques to analyze and solve problems in astronomy and astrophysics. Students in the Astrophysics specialization will also develop extensive knowledge in physics and math, as well as strong analytical and computational skills. This specialization will prepare graduates for a wide variety of career options in astronomy and physics, as well as graduate studies in a related field.

This program introduces you to all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, from mining to plant operation to waste management. Our curriculum includes courses in nuclear plant design, radiation protection, nuclear chemistry and materials, heat transport, steam-generation systems, and nuclear physics. You will learn about the current operational fleet of reactors, and apply your growing knowledge to the future generations of reactors (e.g. supercritical?water reactors, fast reactors and fusion reactors).

Our programs are designed in consultation with key industry representatives, and will provide you with the necessary theoretical and applied skills to meet employers' needs.

Engineering and Management
There is a need for engineers with management skills. Complement the technical studies of your Engineering program with business and management courses by pursuing the five-year Bachelor of Engineering and Management (Honours) program.

Chemical biology is a specialization within the university's Chemistry program. Chemical biology, at the interface of chemistry and biology, is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary area in science. Through the synthesis and use of small molecules, probes, or chemically-modified biological macromolecules, chemistry is applied to help answer key questions of biological importance.

Radiation is also used to study materials and matter on the atomic scale. The Nanotechnology and Clean Energy specialization within the Physics program is designed to meet the urgent demand for graduates with the knowledge and skills to address global issues of escalating energy consumption and declining resources. It emphasizes alternative and conventional energy, with a particular focus on the application of nanotechnology to developing clean energy solutions.

Students will learn the scientific principles underlying the field of nanotechnology along with the development of novel and economical means of generating and harvesting energy, while simultaneously minimizing the environmental impact.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a specialization in our Chemistry program. Individuals interested in this specialization will apply directly to Pharmaceutical Chemistry through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre using application code DSW.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry combines the study of drug discovery and development, pharmacology, analytical techniques, and drug chemistry.  The chemical design process and evaluation of potential future medications will be a prime focus of your studies. You will apply knowledge gained from course material, hands-on lab experiences and faculty research to the pharmaceutical industry.

Mathematics is a key component of problem solving and the dominant language of natural science. It permits clear and concise reasoning about phenomena too complex to be expressed in words. This program specializes in training students to find the underlying mathematics of any process and leveraging this ability into other disciplines. 

You will learn concepts, principles, qualitative and quantitative methods, and innovative problem-solving skills. Additionally, you will gain valuable experience by means of relevant, work-related research projects.

Experiential learning

• A five-year Co-operative Education option is available; it satisfies the guidelines of the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education. The program combines an Honours Bachelor of Science program with embedded work terms. • The Technology Management major is for students interested in interdisciplinary studies in commerce and information technology.  The program will develop your skills in data analytics, information systems, change management, and data security.
