The first year of the Culinary Arts diploma program is designed to prepare students to work in the culinary industry by providing courses aimed at developing fundamental skills and knowledge; including basic business skills. Courses will be presented through a combination of classroom based theory and lab based practice. Students will also obtain certifications in Food Handler Level 1, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), First Aid, and Fire Safety.

The second year of the program will build on your culinary foundation through advanced and specialty theory and practice. Courses presented are a combination of classroom theory and lab based practice. Among other courses, students will serve and prepare Canadian regional cuisine in Jane’s fine dining restaurant and will obtain Smart Choices certification.

The Applied Accounting program is designed to provide you with the necessary skills to provide entry level accounting support. In addition to developing basic accounting and computer skills, the program includes courses in general business practices.  

While the program highlights accounting topics, emphasis will also be placed on:

• Mathematics
• Business management
• Communication
• Records management
• Business software

To help your understanding of various principles, considerable time will be spent solving problems.

This program provides you with the necessary public service and technical skills to be a productive employee in the library and related fields. Specifically, the program provides you with the training to be employed as a library technician.

You will learn the fundamentals of both manual and automated systems for acquiring, organizing, and disseminating information in a variety of formats. Oral presentations, written assignments, and group projects are part of the program.

Students complete three two-week field placements in a variety of libraries over the course of the program.

The first year of this program is designed to prepare students to work in hospitality and tourism businesses by providing courses aimed at developing a fundamental business and customer service background. Students will study through classroom based course work and lab based lunchtime fine dining service in Jane’s restaurant. Students will also obtain certifications in First Aid and It's Good Business. While a one year exit-certificate is available, it is recommended that students complete a diploma to be most competitive in the marketplace after graduation. 

In the second year of the program, students will select a major course of study in one of two areas:

The Hotel and Restaurant Management major focuses primarily on developing skills to work in the food and beverage and accommodation areas of the tourism industry. The courses are delivered from a management perspective and include classroom and lab based course work. Hospitality Simulation offered in the final term is the capstone course in which you work in teams to resolve a variety of case studies, drawing on your academic and work experience from previous terms.

The Tourism Management major concentrates on building skills in a variety of business models in a variety of Tourism sub-sectors including attractions, events and tourism services.  In a capstone course in the final term, students will work on teams during Tourism Entrepreneurship, to develop a visitor attraction using skills learned and developed from previous academic/work terms.

Creative Communications prepares you for a career in advertising, broadcasting, media production, journalism, communications and public relations. The program gives you the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain an entry-level position in this wide range of communication-based jobs. 

In addition to the areas listed above, students also take courses in electronic publishing, web design, social media, creative writing, photography, business and marketing. As a student, during your course studies, you have access to a media production/TV studio, photography studio, radio station, editing suites, model newsroom, model advertising agency, a Foley/sound recording studio, computer labs as well as other dedicated lab spaces.

The Network and Services Technician program is for individuals who wish to enter the Information Technology profession. No Information Technology pre-knowledge is required.
The Network and Services Technician program is an 8-month program that provides the student with a general knowledge base that can be applied in both the SOHO networking environment as well as targeting a junior position in a larger corporate IT department. The focus is to provide the graduate with a broad based basic competency in a number of key areas. The successful graduate has a basic to intermediate understanding of a number of IT areas. These include:

• Client Operating Systems: MS Windows, Linux
• Server Operating Systems: MS Windows, Linux
• Network Equipment Infrastructure: Cisco CCNA training
• Network Cable Plant Infrastructure: BICSI inspired instruction
• Wireless Communication: Cisco AP's
• VoIP: Cisco Communication Manager Express
• PC Hardware Support: A+ Hardware and Software

Digital Media Design is a one-year certificate program that teaches graphic design, web and mobile design and development, UI/UX, video and motion graphics, illustration, and 3D artistry (sculpting, modelling, lighting, texturing, and animation). The creative economy is booming and technology is playing an increasingly larger role in everything we do from games to movies, apps to animation. In DMD, you will learn the foundational theory, techniques, and technology you need to succeed in this industry.

Graduates from the DMD certificate program can enter into the one-year Digital Media Design — Video and Motion Graphics diploma program or the Digital Media Design — Interaction Design and Development program.

This program develops the knowledge and personal selling skills you require for building and maintaining long-term partnerships and for achieving sales success. The program promotes a needs-satisfaction selling philosophy supported by strategic selling techniques. It focuses on the selling function of marketing and its relation to an overall marketing strategy.

Selling is well-suited to learning through application, with the use of oral presentations and salesperson and customer role plays. Throughout the program you will have many opportunities to practice your presentation and selling skills and to review your performance. You will study the various functions of marketing. You will strengthen your interpersonal skills and develop the persuasive communication strategies you need for success in sales.

The Career and Personal Development courses will expose you to the real world of business and help you identify the areas in the field of personal selling that you are interested in. In addition to exploring your career interests, you participate in a number of workshops to develop the skills that will help you both in the program and in your professional career. You will spend one full week with a sponsoring firm, where you will research the firm's sales and marketing strategies.

After you apply, you will be invited to attend an information session to inform you about your career choice and prepare you for the demands of the program. Although attendance is not mandatory, you are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.

Graphic Design provides up-to-date artistic training in the technology, techniques, and philosophy of graphic design, which plays a vital role in the process of presenting ideas, information, products, and services in an expanding global economy.

This is a balanced program of art instruction and academic courses designed to develop the technical skills and knowledge essential to professional competence, and to encourage creativity, imagination, and a sense of aesthetic discrimination. Practical work experience is provided through field placement in the graphic communications industry.

Assignments in design, illustration, and computer graphics may require a considerable amount of time outside of regular class hours.
