The Personal and Developmental Support Services program at Sault College will prepare you for the various challenges and experiences that are part of the expanding health care and community settings.

The Personal and Developmental Support Services program is based upon various components: the person, health, caring, holistic wellness, respect, inclusivity, and support work. These components will prepare you for the role of assisting clients and families to achieve and maintain an optimal quality of life. To reflect these beliefs, Sault College has developed a holistic and evidence-based program that incorporates the required knowledge, theory, values, and hands on skills to be successful within the various settings in healthcare and the community.

When you have completed the Personal and Developmental Support Services program at Sault College, you will be able to work with clients across the lifespan in settings such as long term care facilities, hospitals, private agencies, retirement homes, home care settings, boards of education (special needs children), palliative care settings, senior citizen recreation centres, respite settings, and group homes. This program will provide you with a lifelong and rewarding career. Some students choose to use it as a foundation to further their learning.

The Protection, Security and Investigation program prepares graduates in a wide range of skills, enabling them to pursue careers in customs administration and brokering and public safety. The program has a common first year with the other criminal justice cluster program, Police Foundations. The program deals with the development, purpose, and operation of the legal system generally, and law enforcement related to customs, immigration, and security specifically. It also involves knowledge of security operations to protect persons and property in both the private and industrial settings. A new component in the program will introduce students to firefighter and emergency care operations. Understanding human behaviour and the development of strong interpersonal and communications skills will prepare the graduate to function more effectively and humanely in professions which demand mature and responsible reactions. Sault College`s Electrical Engineering Technician - Process Automation and Trades program is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to pursue a career as an Electrical Engineering Technician and/or as an Industrial or Construction Electrician. Classroom instruction (semesters one through four) at Sault College will provide you with the basics of electricity and electronics as well as related subjects such as computer technology, industrial electronics, instrumentation, electrical machines, power electronics, and automated control systems. These skills will prepare you for a career in industrial environments with the electrical trades. Graduates will have a wide variety of skills including those required to install, test, modify, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems.

The Natural Resources/Environmental Law – Inspection and Enforcement program blends experiential learning and theory to prepare you for a successful career in conservation and environmental law enforcement.

Learn about fish and wildlife conservation enforcement along with investigation and conflict management techniques you can bring into the field. Study environmental law and how it relates to conservation. And gain real-world experience through off-campus field study.

This eight-month program, unique in the province of Ontario, is designed for those who don`t have a business-related background or education, but recognize the importance of having key knowledge of business to enhance job prospects and for advancement in their careers. In only a few months, you will develop the skills in the key areas of management, marketing, accounting, finance, human resource management and other critical business-related functions, while earning a graduate certificate from a recognized post-secondary program. Most other college programs take two years to give you the level of study you will gain at Sault College in less than one. Business knowledge is recognized as a necessary piece of one`s portfolio when actively seeking exciting opportunities in the domestic and global marketplace. In today`s economy, employers seek what this program will provide you: the skills required to solve problems, make decisions, and perform a multitude of tasks, all with a strong foundation of what it takes to lead and succeed.

The Social Service Worker - Indigenous Specialization program is for anyone who is interested in gaining the skills of a social service worker as you advocate for social justice in both Aboriginal and mainstream organizations to help empower individuals, families, and communities. You will be equipped with the enhanced knowledge needed to provide all clients - both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginals alike, the support they need to overcome barriers they may face in their lives.

With a strong foundation in core social service worker skills, the program infuses an Aboriginal worldview throughout the curriculum. Whether you are Aboriginal or not, this impactful program will prepare you to become a skilled social service worker, practise within a culturally competent approach, and demonstrate an increased knowledge of Aboriginal issues and interventions. You will be eligible to register with the College of Social Work and Social Service Workers after completing the program.

A graduate of the Social Service Worker Indigenous Specialization Program at Sault College will reliably demonstrate the ability to:

During this in-class and experiential two-semester PR program you’ll learn successful public relations strategies, dynamic presentation skills, strategic communication techniques and in-depth training in media relations.

Plus through engaging event planning courses, gain expert instruction in online event planning, and fundraising for corporate and non-profit sectors.

There’s no doubt you’ll make waves in this field! As you earn your public relations diploma, gain real event management and PR experience through organizing events and executing campaigns for real clients – this is not your typical public relations college in Ontario. This program also includes a four-week Field Placement opportunity that enables students to apply their knowledge and skills with a local organization.

This advanced diploma expands on courses taken as part of the two year Natural Environment Technician curriculum. The Technologist designation earned through a third year of study takes learning to a new level. Students will participate in a number of legacy field projects related to Conservation and Management of natural resources. Study layout, data collection, analysis and reporting are the overriding elements of courses taught within this program. Students will hone their problem solving skills and work independently on unique projects in aquatic ecosystems, species at risk, invasive species and climate change.

Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of related agencies through a field placement and legacy projects. This chance to network facilitates important industry connections and allows for real life contributions to natural resource management. Integration of technology is a crucial component, as GIS applications and other relevant software are fundamental to the third year. All of this is presented within a strong framework of sustainability, creating a foundation for an impactful career working in and with the Natural Environment.

Co-operative Education (Co-op)
Co-operative Education (Co-op) provides opportunities for you to learn beyond your classroom as you integrate relevant work
experiences into your academic studies. Co-op also lets you further develop life and employment skills while earning money.
You can also get a better idea of the career options available to you and build your network of contacts for future employment. Many employers prefer hiring co-op grads because of the applied learning they receive. We will prepare you for your summer work term and employment upon graduation.

Goals of Co-operative Education:

• Provide opportunities for students to learn and apply job search skills.

• Expose students to the realities of the workplace in their chosen field.
