Canadian Studies was born at Trent. Study in the School for the Study of Canada at one of the first universities in the country to establish a Canadian Studies department.

How has Canada become what it is today, and what does it mean to be Canadian? Explore issues of relevance to our expansive country through a critical examination of themes such as the environment, nationalism, indigeneity, multiculturalism, and immigration. Canadian Studies will offer you unparalleled insight into the life and history of Canada, and how this expansive nation and its position in the world today.

If a career in law is what you want, this is the program for you. In this one-of-a-kind program, you will undertake either a Bachelor of Arts Honours or a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Trent – Ontario’s #1 undergrad university, while also obtaining a law degree from Swansea University’s renowned Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law in the UK – no need to write the LSATs.

The first two years of your degree take place at Trent, where you’ll pursue your choice of 14 degree options. In third year, you’ll transfer to the coastal city of Swansea in Wales to complete three years of law studies, earning your Bachelor of Laws degree. Once your LL.B. is complete, you’ll return to Trent to complete your Honours degree credentials. By simultaneously taking several Canadian Law courses in your final year at Trent, you’ll be well-prepared for the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) exams, enabling you to take the required steps to practice law in Canada.

Cultural Studies gives you the tools to critique and create cultural objects and practices – everything from games to graffiti, print to painting, and music to film. You’ll study culture by reading, talking, and doing, taking both lecture and workshop courses in literature, fine art, media, and theory. And you’ll ask (and seek answers to) the questions about how culture shapes our lives.

Culture and Theory (Specialization)
In our current world of tweeting presidents and online crowdfunding campaigns raising millions in only days, understanding culture and the power of multimedia seems more important than ever. Take a big picture approach to analyze how gender and sexuality, the body, globalization, technology, ethics, and laws are represented and repressed socially and culturally in this specialization available to Cultural Studies majors.

Working in state-of-the-art facilities, you will gain a solid grounding in chemistry, biochemistry, genetics and cell biology, preparing you for advanced studies in this dynamic and ever-changing discipline

How does chemistry influence health and disease? How are all living creatures alike – and how do we differ? And can we meet human needs by manipulating the DNA of bacteria, plants and animals?  The study of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology investigates these fundamental questions and more, exploring how molecules work in living systems and combining a wide range of chemical and biological disciplines. In this program, you’ll achieve a detailed understanding of the processes that control and mediate health, illness, reproduction, growth, and ultimately life itself.

Human Resource Management Specialization:-
Few businesses can succeed without a skilled, happy, and healthy workforce, making human resources professionals an invaluable and in-demand asset to any team. This practical specialization will provide B.B.A. students with the skills necessary to effectively manage people, while also satisfying course requirements for the Certified Human Resources Professional Designation.™

Upon successful completion of the 5.5 credits associated with the Specialization in Human Resource Management, students will have satisfied all of the course requirements for the “Certified Human Resources Professional Designation™” and be eligible to write the National Knowledge Exam.™ By HRPA standards, students must achieve a cumulative average of 70% in all courses, with no individual course mark less than 65%. In order to take the exam, a student must be an enrolled member of the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario, which involves a monetary fee to the Association.

The “Certified Human Resources Professional Designation” is the only legislated certification for Human Resources Professionals in North America. Currently, the HRPA requires the completion of nine subject areas, which are all offered at Trent. CHRP, NKE, and NPPA are trademarks of HRPA and used under license. Licensing does not equate to program review, approval, or endorsement.

Economics (Specialization):-
A specialization in Economics is the perfect academic pursuit for B.B.A. students wanting to develop a deeper understanding of the problems that face the business world, along with the theories and techniques that are being used to solve these issues. Graduating students who have fulfilled the requirements for a Bachelor of Business Administration degree may apply for a Specialization in Economics, if they have successfully completed the following 3.5 credits:

• 2.5 credits consisting of ADMN 3700H, ECON 2000H, 2010H, 3020H, and 3120H
• 0.5 credit from ADMN 3870H or 0.5 ECON credit beyond those required for the BBA (ECON 1010H, 1020H, 2200H, 2250H)
• 0.5 additional ECON credit beyond those required for the BBA
