In this program, you’ll examine the diversity of Canadian and international Francophones. Through explorations of history, literature, cinema and contemporary topics, you will discover where the words, phrases and slang you speak come from and reaffirm yourself as a French-speaking citizen. French & Francophone Studies is about more than just learning a language. It’s also about understanding the world and culture that the language reflects. Cultural Studies gives you the tools to critique and create cultural objects and practices – everything from games to graffiti, print to painting, and music to film. You’ll study culture by reading, talking, and doing, taking both lecture and workshop courses in literature, fine art, media, and theory. And you’ll ask (and seek answers to) the questions about how culture shapes our lives.

Culture and Theory (Specialization)
In our current world of tweeting presidents and online crowdfunding campaigns raising millions in only days, understanding culture and the power of multimedia seems more important than ever. Take a big picture approach to analyze how gender and sexuality, the body, globalization, technology, ethics, and laws are represented and repressed socially and culturally in this specialization available to Cultural Studies majors.

Build your future career by uncovering the ancient past, studying in one of the most robust archaeology programs in Canada. Your studies will focus on the history of human beings, examining artifacts, human and animal bones, architecture, and plants. You’ll learn the field methods and lab techniques used to study these materials, as well as theories archaeologists use to understand the ancient cultures and past civilizations of the Americas, Europe and the pre-Classical and Classical Mediterranean world.

Mediterranean Archaeology (Specialization):-
What does Archaeology look like in the contemporary world? Go beyond the traditional study of Greece and Rome to look at how modern Mediterranean infrastructure is influenced by ancient remains, challenging you to explore and respond to elements threatening cultural heritage.

Study the archaeology of a time and place not explored in other Archaeology programs in Ontario with professors who are experts currently working in the field.

By studying sustainable agriculture, you can learn to create food systems that are responsible, justice- oriented, efficient, effective, and viable. In this program, you’ll examine the pathways between farm and table and their implications for people, the economy, and the planet. Learn about the challenges and benefits of producing and distributing healthy, affordable food in sustainable ways, and prepare for a career in which you can affect change and positively impact your community.

Small-Scale Farming Specialization
The Specialization in Small-scale Farming provides students in Trent’s one-of-a-kind Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (B.A. or B.Sc.) program with a comprehensive background and hands-on experience in growing food and contributing to resilient regional food systems.

Through a new, intensive hands-on field course, that covers the principles of vegetable and field crops in terms of sustainable management on the Trent Model Farm, students study the principles to cultivate crops including field preparing, soil and nutrient management, seeding, pest management, irrigation techniques, harvest and post-harvest.

The natural world is intrinsic to human life, but people’s experience with the environment varies widely and this impacts their values and how they learn to interact with the natural world. IESS at Trent brings together the principles of both Indigenous Knowledge and Western science to explore complex topics such as climate change, community sustainability, and Indigenous health and environment through a cross-cultural, transdisciplinary approach. This degree also offers an additional layer of exploration: co-op work terms. In the Indigenous Environmental Studies/Science Co-op stream, you will participate in three paid placements that will have you engaging in real-world leading environmental workplaces to help you chart the course of your career and consciousness of the natural world. You’ll learn to generate solutions to complex local, regional, national, and international issues facing Indigenous and all peoples and communities around the world.

Trent is the only university in Canada to offer students the chance to combine your study of forensics with one of several different academic disciplines.
