Human Resource Management Specialization:-
Few businesses can succeed without a skilled, happy, and healthy workforce, making human resources professionals an invaluable and in-demand asset to any team. This practical specialization will provide B.B.A. students with the skills necessary to effectively manage people, while also satisfying course requirements for the Certified Human Resources Professional Designation.™

Upon successful completion of the 5.5 credits associated with the Specialization in Human Resource Management, students will have satisfied all of the course requirements for the “Certified Human Resources Professional Designation™” and be eligible to write the National Knowledge Exam.™ By HRPA standards, students must achieve a cumulative average of 70% in all courses, with no individual course mark less than 65%. In order to take the exam, a student must be an enrolled member of the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario, which involves a monetary fee to the Association.

The “Certified Human Resources Professional Designation” is the only legislated certification for Human Resources Professionals in North America. Currently, the HRPA requires the completion of nine subject areas, which are all offered at Trent. CHRP, NKE, and NPPA are trademarks of HRPA and used under license. Licensing does not equate to program review, approval, or endorsement.

With so many fascinating science programs offered at Trent, it can be difficult to know which degree to choose. If you’re interested in general sciences but haven’t yet decided on a specific program, this flexible first-year pathway is for you. Honours Science allows you to explore courses across various science programs before declaring a major or joint-major in your second year. You can even choose to combine different disciplines, taking courses from programs across both the sciences and arts.

Program Paths

Humans need to eat, and while this shared necessity unites us in many ways, discovering new ways to sustainably grow enough food for seven billion people has become an increasingly crucial global challenge. By studying sustainable agriculture, you can learn to create food systems that are responsible, justice- oriented, efficient, effective, and viable. In this program, you’ll examine the pathways between farm and table and their implications for people, the economy, and the planet. Learn about the challenges and benefits of producing and distributing healthy, affordable food in sustainable ways, and prepare for a career in which you can affect change and positively impact your community.

Small-Scale Farming Specialization
The Specialization in Small-scale Farming provides students in Trent’s one-of-a-kind Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (B.A. or B.Sc.) program with a comprehensive background and hands-on experience in growing food and contributing to resilient regional food systems.

Through a new, intensive hands-on field course, that covers the principles of vegetable and field crops in terms of sustainable management on the Trent Model Farm, students study the principles to cultivate crops including field preparing, soil and nutrient management, seeding, pest management, irrigation techniques, harvest and post-harvest.

Geography at Trent is more than learning in a classroom. It’s an expedition. You will learn about real-world issues and critical perspectives related to both human and physical geography. You will explore complex issues such as the causes and impacts of climate change, health geography, water resources, and the historical roots of geopolitical conflicts. At Trent, we believe the best way to learn geography is through an interactive environment. Small group learning and experiences outside of the classroom are pillars of the program.

Climate Change Science & Policy (Specialization)
Dive into the challenges and solutions for climate change—environmental, economic, political, social—and build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills that equip graduates for the growing number of climate-related careers.

Climate change is the leading global environmental issue, but its impacts extend beyond the natural world, into business operations, politics and policy development, social justice movements, law and more. If you find yourself trading the car for public transit, reviewing a company’s environmental initiatives or participating alongside millions of others in global Climate Marches, this specialization is for you.

Trent’s Climate Change Science & Policy specialization draws on faculty specialties in Trent’s School of the Environment (TSE) and from affiliated departments, providing students with a robust, well-rounded education that could lead to a variety of careers supporting climate solutions that can have profound impacts on societies for future generations.

At both a national and global level, the most significant social issues involve economics. Through your studies in Economics, you’ll gain a thorough understanding of the methods and tools required to analyze complex economic issues such as unemployment, inflation, economic growth and the regulation of the market structure. Your studies will enable you to use national and international data to explore trends and tendencies, test economic models, and will give you the ability to recommend policies addressing inadequacies with market outcomes.

How do social constructs like gender, race and class impact the experience of individuals? How do movements for social justice support progress towards a more equitable world? As a Sociology student at Trent, you will explore and question a diverse range of social topics, completing your studies with an understanding of social organizations and institutions and people’s place in them. These explorations can take place both in the classroom and beyond – through the new B.A. Co-op stream you can put skills to action across three work terms in professional settings. This program is progressive, critical and timely in the way it engages students in not only understanding but also acting on the consequences of social change with practical learning components. Through this degree, you’ll explore and question a diverse range of social topics, completing your studies with a heightened understanding of human relationships and society, rooted in the social sciences and inspired by a passion for social justice. A Sociology degree is an excellent foundation for law school, teachers college, social work or similar programs.

Media dominate our world and shape our perceptions of reality. In this popular program, students navigate and engage with the theory, principles and practice that shape our ever-changing media landscape. In Media Studies, you’ll examine the influence of advertising and ideology, the political economy of media corporations, the foundations of media arts, and the ecological impact of media technologies. You’ll also benefit from our interdisciplinary curriculum, learning across subjects from the arts and sciences, and across environments from the classroom to the community to prospective career paths through the co-op stream.
