This program allows you to combine and balance your interests in mathematics with studies in computing science, and will be of interest to you if you wish to study the mathematical foundations of computing, algorithms, logic, or the application of modern mathematical theory to error-correcting codes and cryptography.

This program can only be taken as part of a BSc with Honors degree.

Why take an Undeclared major?

If you are undecided, you may apply with an Undeclared major or minor. Please note that both a major and a minor are required for graduation from the BSc General degree. (Alternatively, you can select a double major, with no minor.) You are encouraged to make your selection within the first few years of university. You can only enter into an Undeclared major as part of a BSc General degree.

Co-op option
This degree can be taken as a Co-op (co-operative education) program. Through the Co-op program, you will have the opportunity to complete paid, supervised work terms throughout your degree. Most co-op programs include five work terms lasting four months each, in addition to the usual eight terms (four years) of full-time study. Therefore, co-op programs require five years to complete.

This major — unique to the Alberta School of Business — incorporates courses on both Economics and Law, examining the economic and legal aspects of business and how they combine to create the environment in which firms operate. This Specialization is for students who are interested in all aspects of building software. The program has a broad range of courses to develop depth in programming, algorithms, hardware, software design, user interfaces, project management, and business issues.

• This program allows you to study topics in both chemistry and physics, then branch out in the direction that suits you best. You can choose from a wide breadth of courses in astronomy, biochemistry, chemistry, geophysics, mathematical physics, and physics, giving you the ability to pursue a truly customizable and interdisciplinary degree.
• Physical Sciences can only be taken as part of a BSc General degree or BSc/BEd Combined degree. This major can be taken with a Business minor.

Why study Computing Science? (Specialization program)

The BSc Specialization in Computing Science is very unique as it combines the structure of a Specialization degree with elements of customization often found in the General Science program. Nicknamed “Computing and X”, this program allows you either to study a concentrated area of computing science or to combine the study of computing science with another discipline, thus creating a very tailored degree.

Our CS department has expertise in several exciting of areas, including Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Multimedia and Computer Games, Software and Database systems, and Machine Learning and Bioinformatics. Together, we are changing how computing science is being taught.

Computing Science can also be taken as part of a BSc General or a BSc with Honors.

Our specialized and competitive Bachelor of Design (BDes) degree is the perfect way to start your journey towards a career in Design, whether that means starting your own design business, applying for positions within a larger firm, going on to do a degree in Architecture, or myriad other design-related careers.

Our BDes students can focus on Industrial Design, Visual Communication Design, or they may choose to do both.

Each BDes student also chooses one of our 6 "routes," a system which is unique to the University of Alberta's Department of Art & Design. If you aren't certain about your route, that's ok! You can change your route easily within the first few years of your degree. The route you choose gives you the option to enhance Industrial Design and/or Visual Communication Design studies with an elective path of study in one of the following:

• Business and Marketing Route
• Computing Science Route
• Engineering Route
• Printmaking Route
• Social Sciences Route

This route system gives you the opportunity to gain additional critical skills and knowledge to meet the evolving demands of the economy. Select the degree route which has the combination of courses in which you are most interested and for which you have the greatest aptitude. Future careers may be influenced by your route in the sense that your options courses will influence the work you make in your studio classes, and in the skills and perspectives you can offer to future clients, employers, or grad schools, when the time comes.

Why study Psychology? (Honors)

The BSc Psychology program focuses on how the brain functions, and how we perceive, learn, and forget things. You’ll gain an understanding of areas like perception and motivation, behavior, and cognitive development, with emphasis on the physical, biological and mathematical sciences.

Our Honors Psychology program includes first-hand experience conducting research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. There are two phases to this experience: A research apprenticeship undertaken in your third year, and the thesis research conducted in your fourth year.

Psychology can also be taken as part of a BSc Specialization or a BSc General degree.
