Engineering uses the principles of math and science to find practical solutions to problems or needs. Engineers develop the technological tools that enable us to live better lives (computer chips, hydro dams, artificial limbs, etc.). Though the field of engineering is diverse the skill set one needs in areas such as biology, water resource management, environmental protection and computing systems are common. Basic sciences, engineering sciences, math, and engineering design are only the foundation courses. An engineering education is much broader. Some have called it the "liberal arts" of the 21st century!

Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns and formulate new conjectures which provide the language, reasoning, and analytic tools that many other disciplines use to investigate their areas.

In this program the emphasis is on Mathematics and another field of study. For example: Mathematics and Computer Science; Mathematics and Economics; or Mathematics and Statistics.

The Art History program offers students an opportunity to consider, in a cultural context, both Western and non-Western artistic traditions with an emphasis on the former from the Renaissance to the present. While all courses acknowledge methodological issues, the program also offers courses in art theory and criticism at the second- and third-year levels. Students enrolled in this program broaden their knowledge of art production with studio electives.

In your first year, you will gain knowledge about the development of art worldwide from the prehistoric period to the present, learning about artists, art movements, directions, styles, and social contexts. 

Second year courses offer concentration in specific areas such as the Medieval to Renaissance era, the Renaissance to the Baroque, the Modern to the Contemporary as well as courses that have a single focal area such as Indigenous Art History, Women in Art History, and Art Writing. 

As you progress through your degree, more defined curriculum related to one artistic movement or era will be explored, such as Contemporary Art, Canadian Art History, Bauhaus, Art in New Media, History of Photography, History of Ceramics, Islamic Art, and Curatorial Studies. Special Topics courses address faculty and student interests in current issues and new approaches to the discipline of art history. Seminar courses such as Contemporary Indigenous Art and Manitoba Modernism focus on student-driven discussions.

Animal Systems focuses on the nutrition, management and welfare of livestock and poultry. Animal science professionals are committed to devising innovative solutions to the challenges posed by a growing world population, shifting diet patterns, limited resources, and changing climatic conditions.

The Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) in Animal Systems provides students with a firm understanding of animal production, including genetics, anatomy/physiology, nutrition, health and reproduction. It also provides courses in business management and communications.

Co-op Options
The Cooperative Education option integrates the student’s academic study with practical work experience in industry, government and the farming profession. To obtain the co-op designation, you must complete three 4-month work terms. Two of these can be during the summer. This program option will extend your degree time by one semester (slightly longer if you take more work terms in winter).

Have you ever thought about where the products you buy come from? Who determined the brand name? Who set the price? Why are they available on line as well at retail stores? A marketing professional made these decisions. 

Marketing involves learning about and understanding consumers, and then developing and implementing a plan that delivers products and services that meet the needs of both the consumer and producer. A marketing professional is also involved in setting the prices for the product or service, deciding where and how it will be sold, and how it will be promoted. 

Students who major in marketing soon discover that this exciting field encompasses much more than sales and advertising. They learn about marketing research, consumer behaviour, branding, international marketing, and marketing of social issues.

Bachelor of Arts or BA is an undergraduate program. Full form of BA is Bachlor of Arts and it comes under the discipline of humanities/arts. BA course duration is 3 years. The Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering (ECE) programs prepare students for a career in Engineering by engaging them in studies related to core and specialty areas through both theoretical and hands-on teaching methods. ECE students have many courses in common, including math, physics, circuits and electronics, programming, microprocessors, digital systems, economics, engineering law, technical writing, technology and society, and a complementary studies elective in an Arts or Management discipline. In their final year, students participate in a team-based group design project that allows them both the opportunity to put into practice knowledge and skills acquired throughout their program and the exposure to the concepts of team work and project management.

The Interdisciplinary Health Program offers education and training leading to a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree. The Interdisciplinary Health Program (IHP) is a joint program between the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences in partnership with the Faculties of Arts and Science. Classes take place at the Fort Garry campus.

Our program focuses on health promotion. Students gain an understanding of the determinants of optimum health and well-being and the actions and circumstances that maintain those conditions. Health and wellness are understood in the context of the individual, the community and society with a particular focus on Manitoba and its peoples.

Anthropology is a biocultural discipline grounded in a comparative and cross-cultural perspective and concerned with diverse aspects of human life. While broadly educated, individual anthropologists generally specialize in particular approaches, collectively contributing to a rich and holistic view of humanity. The University of Manitoba offers undergraduate and graduate training in anthropology’s four sub-disciplines: cultural anthropology, archaeology, physical anthropology, and anthropological linguistics.

Philosophy is the study of reality, knowledge, values, logic and related topics. The existence of free will or God, the nature of science, art, emotions and language, ethical theory, proofs, fallacies, and so on. It is one of the oldest subjects of study in the Western world. Philosophy students are trained to think abstractly and write clearly, and rationally assess ideas in a way that few others can equal.
