Chemistry is the science concerned with the properties of atoms and molecules, of which all matter is composed. Chemistry is important for all aspects of the material world - food production; the manufacture of medicines, textiles, and plastics; energy production; identifying environmental problems and remedies; and understanding the workings of living organisms. The Honours and cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

Agroecology specializes in the management and conservation of our natural and agricultural resources. Agroecologists develop environmentally friendly weed, insect and disease controls and also help farmers conserve their land and protect Canada’s wildlife and water supply. 

The Bachelor of Science (Agroecology) is the ideal program for students with a passion for our planet. Students will learn the biological and physical components of ecosystems, and how to achieve economically sustainable agricultural production while conserving resources and maintaining the integrity of our ecosystems.

Co-op programs
The Cooperative Education option integrates the student’s academic study with practical work experience in industry, government and the farming profession. To obtain the co-op designation, you must complete three 4-month work terms. Two of these can be during the summer. This program option will extend your degree time by one semester (slightly longer if a student takes more work terms in winter).

The Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering (ECE) programs prepare students for a career in Engineering by engaging them in studies related to core and specialty areas through both theoretical and hands-on teaching methods. ECE students have many courses in common, including math, physics, circuits and electronics, programming, microprocessors, digital systems, economics, engineering law, technical writing, technology and society, and a complementary studies elective in an Arts or Management discipline. In their final year, students participate in a team-based group design project that allows them both the opportunity to put into practice knowledge and skills acquired throughout their program and the exposure to the concepts of team work and project management.

Historical study explains the past to the present and illuminates the present through the past.  The History curriculum offers students opportunities to discover, understand, and assess past time and change over time.  Historical study develops strong writing skills and critical analysis.  As well, it provides training in skills of intellectual enquiry and judgment to prepare for students’ future lives.  In addition, the curriculum prepares graduates who will become professional historians. 

Criminology is concerned with the complex social phenomena of crime and criminalization. The criminology program engages students in a systematic study of the nature and extent of crime and criminalization along with the array of agencies and programs designed to prevent, control, and respond to criminal activity over time and place. Attention is given to specific issues related to gender, race, class and crime, youth and crime, violence and victimization, criminal law and procedure, policing and crime prevention, restorative justice, and global criminology. Courses in the criminology program are taught primarily from a sociological perspective, with emphasis placed on research, program development, and policy analysis.

Geologists study the composition, structure, processes, and history of the Earth, as well as the distribution of mineral and energy resources. There are many overlapping fields of study for geologists including: Economic Geology, Petroleum Geology, Environmental Geology, Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Mineralogy, Crystallography and Petrology, Paleontology, Sedimentology and Stratigraphy as well as Structural Geology and Tectonics.

Geography is a broad synthesizing discipline that studies humans and the Earth by focusing on the themes of place and space. Geography is therefore not an encyclopedic listing of capital cities, mountains and rivers, but rather an understanding of the causes, effects, implications, and importance of these and other features. As Geography is so broad, it is often studied as a number of separate but closely related sub-disciplines, notably physical geography and human geography, and also regional geography (Area Studies), topical geography and geographic techniques (Geomatics).

Biotechnology is the application of the principles of chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology to the development of new technologies. Both Microbiology and Chemistry share in the teaching and administration of the program, The cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

This Faculty of Arts interdisciplinary program explores the massive social and cultural changes in Central and East European countries that have dominated the world's attention. In addition to language courses, the CEES program also offers courses on literatures, cinemas, and cultures of the region, the issues of state formation and democratization, privatization and the creation of new market economies, and more. There are several active student clubs that enhance learning and travel study programs are also available.
