The Faculty of Science, Applied Science and Engineering is the home of the Chemistry department in Saint John and is located on the top floor of William F. Ganong Hall.

Chemistry is the study of atoms, molecules and their interactions. It is often described as the central science because studies in biology, geology and physics examine the gross behaviour of materials which is a reflection of what is occurring at the molecular level. 

Our principle teaching strategy is to work with small groups of students to maximize the personal experience and optimize skills development.

Geological engineers merge earth sciences with engineering principles to determine what lies underground. Working primarily in the mining and mineral extraction sectors, geological engineers oversee the stability and safety of mines and of drilling sites, particularly of oil and natural gas wells.

This includes:

• Stabilizing the site against landslides and other ecological disasters
• Protecting groundwater supplies from contamination
• Ensuring all work is conducted in an environmentally sustainable way

General Information:-

The Certificate in General Studies is open to all interested individuals, but it is intended for student attending university for the first time. It is anticipated that Certificate students may proceed on to a degree program, transferring all appropriate Certificate credit(s).

From emergency care for premature babies with immature lungs, to ongoing treatment for people with chronic diseases such as cystic fibrosis, asthma and emphysema, respiratory therapists play an important role in lifelong health.

Respiratory therapists can be found throughout the health care system, such as:

• Hospitals
• Rehabilitation centres
• Public health clinics
• Home care services
• Research labs within universities
• Private sector corporations
• Equipment and pharmaceutical sales
• Air quality testing facilities

Open doors

• A respiratory therapy degree can also open doors around the world. Health care providers in developing countries actively recruit Canadian graduates to help develop health care facilities and programs abroad.
• Following completion of the BHS (Respiratory Therapy) students may pursue further training in the specialized treatment areas of perfusion technology, sleep medicine, neonatal or pediatric care and anaesthesia assistant.

History is about people, the famous and the infamous, the daring and the dutiful, who through their actions and ideas left their mark on the past.

The History program at UNB is about both the past and the present. It’s about understanding how the past has shaped the world as we know it now. The program explores the interconnections between economics, nationalism, science, religion, politics, and popular culture, and how each has influenced local, regional, and world events.

You’ll have small, interactive classes, led by knowledgeable instructors, where you can easily interact and debate with instructors and colleagues.

The Faculty of Engineering offers a program leading to a Diploma in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship, administered by the Dr. J. Herbert Smith/ACOA Chair. The mission of the program is to provide undergraduate and continuing education students opportunities to experience the realities of entrepreneurship and management in technology-based businesses and to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in business. The Diploma program consists of three core courses and two electives, totalling 15 credit hours. In selecting courses, students will be advised to develop a curriculum that builds skills in three key areas: business management, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.

Up to twelve credit hours of required courses for the TME diploma can be shared as credit towards a degree. Each department shall determine its own maximum allowable concurrent credit hours, which may be less than, but no greater than twelve credit hours. Students who intend to complete the diploma must obtain both department and TME program approval of the courses which will be applied towards the degree and the diploma.

Applicants are encouraged to apply to the program as early as their first year of study and begin by taking elective courses. A minimum of 80 credit hours completed, or permission of the TME program Chair, is required to enroll in TME core courses.  Applicants who are not full-time students may still apply for the TME Diploma (or enroll in one or more TME courses). In UNB’s Bachelor of Applied Management in Hospitality and Tourism (BAMHT) program, you’ll combine practical experience in a community college setting with theoretical studies in UNB classrooms. You’ll study in Canada’s oldest incorporated city and gain valuable hands-on training and experience.

The BAMHT is available as a certificate and a degree, if entering from high school, or as a diploma and a degree, if entering from college. For the co-op mode, work terms follow Years Two and Three for high school-entry students while a work term follows Year Three (i.e. first year at UNBSJ) for college-entry students. These work terms provide hands-on, multi-level practical experiences.

As a Bachelor of Information Sciences (B.I.Sc.) graduate, you will learn how to establish programs to collect and analyze data, which will better equip people to function within their work environments.

The interdisciplinary B.I.Sc. program at University of New Brunswick Saint John draws upon business administration, mathematics, computer science, and economics, with a focus on the methods and techniques for effective collection and analysis of data.

You can choose a specialization which will allow you to concentrate on your areas of interest and application:

• Decision and Business Management
• Decision and Systems Science.

Bio-Psychology examines the human body and human behaviour. This interdisciplinary program is designed for students interested in pursing careers or post-graduate studies in neuroscience, human biology, medicine, dentistry or pharmacy.

What you'll learn
In your first year you will take introductory courses in a cross section of science disciplines. These survey courses serve as the foundation for upper level study.
A major in Biology-Psychology will include studies in specialized topics such as perception, animal learning, cognition, social and developmental psychology, microbiology, genetics, physiology and more.
